Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Incredibly beautiful views of the water from our room! So much lovelier than I even imagined it could be. Small but very nice B&B in a great location on the outskirts of Portree, with fantastic views, very comfortable beds, nice bathrooms and good breakfast. It helps to have a car (for the Isle of Skye and for the B&B) so you can get into Portree quickly and tour the beautiful surrounding countryside. The proprietress is friendly and helpful. If you are planning to stay in Portree, I highly recommend staying at this B&B rather than right in town.

My wife and I had a lovely stay recently with Margaret at her Gables b&b in Portree. Our room was very comfortable and had a beautiful view of the ocean. Margaret was very warm and welcoming, and we enjoyed lovely breakfasts. It is a little bit of a walk (20 minutes) into Portree…nice on a sunny day. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay at the Gables if we’re able to come back some time.

Lovely B&B in Portree, Isle of Skye. Margret is a very gracious host and sees to your needs. The room she reserved for us has a beautiful view of the harbour. In the garden outside, there was a table with 2 chairs which is very relaxing and soothing to sit with a cup of tea and some snacks and look out into the harbour. The mattress is bit soft though and the bathroom smallish, especially the area when you step out of the shower and it gets all wet. Breakfast is continental, not cooked and Margaret is a very attentive host. Since we had a beautiful view of the harbour from our bedroom, Margaret was very fair in reserving the best view for breakfast for those who do not have a harbour view from their rooms. This goes to show how attentive she is to her guests'needs. Viewfield Road, where The Gables is located is lined up with lots of B&B so have to look out for your B&B signage. Portree is a very popular place to stay when at Isle of Skye, so have to book many, many months in advance if you are want a good one.

The Gables is a perfectly charming B&B on the Isle of Skye just outside the town of Portree. Margaret is a lovely and fantastic hostess. Had a wonderful room and a great made-to-order breakfast each morning. And the view from the B&B is fantastic!

Stayed here for two nights while on a Heart of Scotland tour. This immaculate B&B is on the edge of the town, approx 20 mins walk from the town centre...uphill or downhill depending on which way you're walking! The room was spacious and spotless, with incredible views over the bay, and kitted out with the usual tea/coffee, toiletries, towels, including flannels which was a nice touch. The mattresses and pillows were very comfortable. Our hostess Margaret was friendly, welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. Breakfast was generous and turned out to perfection. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again on another visit one day.

We had a lovely stay - Margaret is an excellent hostess! Our room was absolutely spotless and very comfortable with a great view of the bay. Breakfast each morning was delicious. Very quiet and comfortable bed and breakfast, perfect for recharging after a long day on Skye.

We checked in here last night for 3 night. The Gables is beautiful, the furnishing to the view and position of the house. We woke to a stunning sunrise and a very warm welcome crom Margaret. Breakfast was lovely and nothing was too much bother. We are looking forward to the rest of our stay.

My son and I are at the close of a long hiking holiday and were lucky enough to be booked in at the Gables. Margaret was an extremely gracious host and the view across to Portree cannot be beat. Breakfast was delicious and bountiful. Very pleasant stroll to downtown Portree. Much quieter here outside the bustle. Alternate transportation to town is easy and reasonable if you don’t want to walk. Rooms are clean, staff friendly and we loved our stay.

My daughter and I had difficulty finding the Gables but we made it eventually. We were met by Margaret the owner of this very lovely B&B. There is plenty of parking and The Gables has a wonderful view from all angles. Our twin bedroom overlooked the bay with a very nice en-suite. We stayed for three nights on our tour of the Islands. The breakfast was made to order and was well presented. Margaret recommended a laundry in town and as the weather was not too kind to us it was well used. I never got the opportunity to sit in the garden but it was beautiful. We would recommend this wonderful B &B to all our friends. Thank you Margaret for making our stay memorable.

Inconsistent service. The owner treated differently depends on the colour of skin. Cooked breakfast wasn’t good. The amount of orange juice given on the table was hideous which also other tables agreed. We were told to serve ourselves with cereals and fruits but also told not to take too much. Also the owner told us to come to breakfast early because she doesn’t like to wait!!
