Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Anne and I had a wonderful 5 night stay in Taransay House, 2nd to 7th October. Donny, Alison and son, Scott were perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We had two wonderful evening dinners cooked by Scott, who discussed menus beforehand, We cannot speak highly enough of the standard of cooking, a truly great eating experience. Our room on the ground floor was disabled friendly, large, spotless very comfortable and extremely well appointed, with a good view of the sea and mountains. We will definitely be back. Blair and Anne Glasgow.

Lured by the landscapes and tranquility of Skye, we chose Portree as our base for a six night stay. We opted for an upstairs room with luxury en-suite, seperate sitting area and balcony with tremendous view. Complimentary toiletries, nibbles, hot/cold drinks provided throughout stay. Town centre and harbour barely a 10 minute walk away. Daily breakfasts were superb, prepared to order and local, fresh produce in abundance.
Local first hand knowledge from Murdo and much appreciated help in making reservations for dinner at various venues.
Accommodation immaculately clean and protocol surrounding Covid-19 adhered to. Felt safe, comfortable and very much at home.

This place is a true gem and was the highlight of our trip to Skye. Murdo and Scott were incredible hosts and gave us an experience unlike any other place we've stayed. The accommodations looked brand new, everything was spotless, and they provided little extras in the room like slippers, drinks and snacks that made our stay very comfortable. Murdo gave us excellent hiking recommendations that took us to beautiful locations away from other tourists. Scott is a very talented chef and you will not get a better meal anywhere else on Skye. Having both breakfast and dinner included in the rate was a fantastic option that made the stay truly unforgettable.

Just back from a glorious 4 day stay at Taransay House and it was, without doubt, one of the best holidays i have experiences. Taransay House itself is beautifully decorated and utterly spotless, the rooms are large and spacious, as is the wonderfully appointed bathrooms. Murdo the owner was welcoming and more than happy to help in any way he could.

The icing on the cake was the cooking by Murdo's son Scott. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent. Scott would take time to discuss your preferences each morning, and make recommendations based on what was fresh and local, and then custom make dinner for each guest. It was hands down some of the best, freshest food i have ever tasted in my entire life.

If you like fresh food, loving prepared and pristine accommodation to go with breathtaking scenery, look no further.

A personalised 5 star experience. Rooms are very nicely appointed and the bed one of the most comfortable we’ve slept in. The shower was lovely. What we appreciated most though was the service. Nothing was too much trouble- be it the local forecast for the walk we planned on doing, tips on viewing points, or giving us a very late breakfast. The food was also exceptional. Scott is a talented chef with a passion for local ingredients. The breakfast was the best we’ve had. And we would strongly recommend having dinner at least once during your stay at the property. Incredibly good value for the high standard of cooking, and we loved being able to chat to Scott about options in the morning. A must for foodies.

This was the highlight accommodation of a 3 week Scotland trip. The hotel has four rooms only with private parking. Our room was a 2 room suite with terrace and views over the harbor, fridge, stocked daily with a couple waters and beers, milk for coffee. The room is super modern, lots of plug-ins and 2 tv's.
Breakfast is made to order by the in-house chef Scott. Dinner is prepared by Scott in the evening for house quests only (65 p/p). He will discuss your dinner choices with you after breakfast. He gets his meats/ fish/ingrediants locally and daily and prepares dishes at a Michelin star level. We had to forage in town for dinner the night we arrived and every place was booked or had a line going down the street. We ate at Tanansay House 2 out of 3 evenings and were very glad we did. Easy and hassle free, what one deserves on vacation.
The owner, Murdo, checks you in and gets you settled. He serves at breakfast and dinner so is available for questions about anything. Before you venture out for your day, he will review your itinerary, if you have one, and give tips and advice about what to see, do and routes to take around Skye and beyond.
We are seasoned travellers, have lived all over the world and don't need a lot of coddling on our vacations. Taransay House, however, brings another level of comfort and convenience without the pretentiousness that usually comes along with service of this quality.
Recommend staying here while visiting Skye. Give yourself a break and enjoy.

This Bed & Breakfast deserves more than 5 stars it is total luxury. Better than many a hotel that I have stayed in. The welcome from Murdo, Alison and Scott make it even more appealing. The rooms are impeccably decorated and all have sea views. The little touches of beer, water, crisps and fudge in the room add to the experience. The breakfasts are endless, Murdo won't let you leave hungry, and the evenng meal offered by Scott is one of the best I have tasted.
You need to stay here to truly appreciate this place.

My wife and I spent 3 delightful nights at the Taransay House at the end of September, 2022. Murdo, the owner/manager, was a wonderful host and very helpful on places to eat in Portree and with lots of good advice on driving around the Trotternish Penninsula. His local knowledge on how to access the Fairy Pools and avoid the crowds was really helpful.
The Taransay House feels very new and was constructed in 2019 with very little use during the Covid shut-downs. It only has four rooms. The rooms are spacious with large well-appointed bathrooms. The rooms are tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Nice views of the water can be seen from the rooms and there is also a nice patio with water views. The included breakfast is ample and well prepared. Dinner is served upon request although we chose to eat in town - an easy 10 minute walk. We have only positive comments and would highly recommend the Taransay House to anyone looking for a home base to explore Skye.

My son and I spent 2 nights exploring Skye and used Taransay House as our base. Even before we arrived Murdo sent us tips and driving directions for the most scenic way to get to the Guest House. We arrived to a complimentary dram of local scotch and had a wonderful 7 course meal prepared by Scott.
We had appetizers , seafood, steak and full sides with a nice selection of wines. Dessert followed, all presented beautifully and served professionally in the dining room. It was by far the best meal we had since our arrival inScotland Breakfast the next morning was equally elaborate
We arrived from a 5 star Edinburgh hotel but our room here was nicer. The location of Taransay in Portree, facing the water, a 15 minute walk into the town center was also excellent. Being on the water and just outside of the center made the accommodation quiet scenic and convenient.
Definitely the place to stay in Portree.

Well were to start, The place is the best place you will ever stay at.
Think it only has 4 room but the standard of them is out of this world.
6 star accommadation at least, the building is ultra modern, the breakfast is all made fresh as mush as yo want and what ever you want you just tell the host the day before.
He will sort all your trips for you or anything else you may need. wifi, big screen tv's.
Cannot fault this place for one thing it is a bit expensive but everywhere is now in Scotland.
