Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Dinner and breakfast were very good. The room was a bit snug but clean and suitable for our needs. Great place to stay for us for one night on the NC500. Would stay there again. Worth a visit for the food.

If you’re travelling up in the far north and close to Kinlochbervie then the Old School is the place to stay or/and have a meal. Sylvi is a great host and is ably supported by Joyce, Danny and the rest of the team. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the restaurant offers good food and service at decent prices including breakfast. Best of all, they have a good selection of beers from the Skye Brewery which you can enjoy back in your room. There’s plenty of great walking and sightseeing in thus part of the world but, if you have the time, I can recommend the road from the Old School to Tongue via Durness.

Fantastic little B&B. The room was city and amazing, with all the facilities you need and in superb condition. The restaurant and food was amazing and the staff friendly and helpful. The only downside is that because of the location wifi is very spotty, but personally I wasn't bothered it made me read a book and watch a bit of TV, but it was even better just going for a little stroll in the evening.

We stayed at the Old School just for one night, in the small room. The room was perfect for us, yes it was small but had everything you needed and we were only there for one night so not a problem. Our stay was really made enjoyable by the friendly and welcoming team there, especially Joyce. And if you eat there would highly recommend the home made ice cream, it was delicious.

Comfortable overnight stay whilst driving the NC500. The room was a bit basic and the bathroom was small, but it was clean and comfortable and was fine for a one night stay. The rooms are in a separate block away from the main building/restaurant, which is fine unless it's pouring with rain and you have to make a mad dash for it! We ate in the restaurant and the food was very good and so was the breakfast.

Very good food and comfortable rooms. The staff are really nice. Amy the "breakfast girl" was very polite and helpful. This is an ideal stopover for anybody doing the Cape Wrath Trail. Make sure you book your meals in advance, I dont think that they do walk ins for either accommodation or evening meals.

I stayed during a NC500 trip. I received a very warm welcome, and, when shown to my room, quickly noticed the amazing views. The room was really cosy, and spotless. A handy fridge with proper milk too! I had a nice meal on the evening, and an enjoyable breakfast the next day. All very good value too! The only reason I've given a 4 star review rather than 5 was I found the room to be a little dated (for my tastes anyway), but it wasn't tired. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to stay again!

We booked a one-night stay on our trip around the NC 500, and are so pleased we did. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was spotless and had a lovely view of the nearby waterfall, it was roomy and even had a fridge which was very useful. Dinner was excellent and the staff were very helpful as I have various allergies and they went out of their way to ensure that I could have the dishes I wanted, albeit tweeked to my needs. We had a very relaxing evening and a good night's sleep and the breakfast in the morning was also excellent.

What fabulous food and setting. Luckily we were advised to book or would have been disappointed. The staff were very pleasant. We’ve toured all around Scotland and this was possibly the best meal. Would have loved to visit again but had to move on.
