Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was our arranged 50th wedding anniversary holiday turning parts of England and Scotland. We booked 7 nights and had a nice welcome. The disabled Room was incredible. Provided everything. One needed . Perfectly cleaned. Dining area was a Wow factor with Bar and attentive staff. Some of the best food I have ever had in a Hotel. It was stunning. Chef is brilliant. Hotel has a new owner of only a few weeks and they are doing well. Ignore past reviews, it's now fantastic. My wife is an ex chef and hotelier. She was more than pleased. We could not fault it. . Also a good night's tariff rate. Room has biscuits tea and coffee. Breakfast has buffet basic cerials and fruit juice plus a hot breakfast menu available with toast if wanted. Full English breakfast was huge. I had egg Benedict most mornings. But you can have just beans on toast if you ask. Thanks to the staff, we had a good week.

Greeted by lovely receptionist who gave us all the information we required. The ground floor room was spacious and modern. It's very quiet, considering it faces the loch and road. The evening meal was out of this world. Restaurant staff are very nice and knowledgeable. Bed was so comfy, excellent night's sleep. Breakfast was a combination of fruit juices and hot food, which again was fabulous. Staff were so friendly and helpful when guiding us to local attractions ie the Crinan canal. Definitely be back for a longer visit.

The dinner was unfortunately not very convincing. We ate a Pizza and a burger. At least the people in the kitchen had fun. Good music (in the kitchen only) but wouldn't come back. The stuff was nice.

We stayed in room 4 and the room was beautiful! Beds super comfy - could do with some extra pillows tho! Had a great sleep, bathroom decorated to high standard too. Had an evening meal in the restaurant and couldn’t fault the meal or staff! Absolutely lovely! Reception staff were also very accommodating and friendly. Not impressed with breakfast the following morning. ‘Continental breakfast’ consisted of some small box’s of cereal and toast - no pastries or fruit. When hot breakfast came out the black pudding was tasteless, sausage was so herby and peppery that is was inedible too. Potato scone was lovely tho!

Dates: 26/Aug/23 to 28/Aug/23. I had the worst stay at 'The Grey Gull Hotel' in Ardrishaig I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I visited with a family of three and the first problem I encountered was that there was no hot water for my shower for the entire duration of my stay. I had to call the front desk multiple times to complain, and they never seemed to be able to fix the problem. We ended up having no bath or shower as it was too cold, which was not very pleasant and ruined the whole vacation. I had to call them to complain about the hot water, and they didn't seem to care about my overall experience. The breakfast at the hotel was also very poor. There was a limited selection of food. I ended up going out to eat the next morning instead of eating at the hotel. Overall, I had a very negative experience at the hotel. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Here is a summary of the problems I encountered: No hot water for shower. Poor breakfast I would give this hotel a rating of 1 star.

Hotel tired but friendly staff. The thing that stood out was breakfast. I asked for just eggs and bacon what was put down was one rasher of bacon and one egg. I asked for more as did other guests and was told by an embarrassed staff member that management had instructed size of portions ie one rasher per breakfast. If you have porridge no cooked breakfast. Wow not much good for manual workers. Won’t be staying again. Would prefer to drive furher

Writing this as an owner of a bed and breakfast so I am unfortunately bound to be critical. Firstly the room was perfectly adequate and comfy, and had everything we needed for a one night stay. It was also quiet with a good view onto the Loch. We were travelling as a family of three as a stopover on our way home. And the lady who took my booking over the phone was extremely efficient. The stairs and corridor to the room were disgusting in terms of cleanliness and in a bad way in terms of paint and faded pictures. We were going to eat but on this particular night it had been the village gala and it was basically all reserved already. To be honest in the end we were glad. Lots of drunken people around and very noisy. Not a family environment but we drove down to Tarbert, and had a lovely meal. Breakfast you had to book a time slot, but this system didn’t seem to be adhered to in regards to the kitchen. We waited over half an hour for our cooked breakfast, which ended up arriving minus the Tomatoes and Black pudding without a ‘sorry, we haven’t got’, would you like extra ‘whatever’ to compensate? I also I can’t understand why you run out of these things on a Sunday morning when it’s potentially the busiest morning of the week. Bacon underdone, beans in a butter portion sized ramekin and very cheap sausages that had bone in. I suspect the Chef had probably been at the gala the night before and had a one too many. But credit where it’s due, my daughter had the porridge which was lovely. I also don’t think it’s acceptable to have instant coffee these days either. Just a cafetière would have been so much better. Lastly, outside the hotel drastically let it down in the morning. Empty wine bottles, cans, dirty glasses in the flower beds. Mr Melville you need a trip down here to get them to buck their ideas up!

We stayed overnight on our way to Islay as a family of 6 - 4 adults & 2 children. Family room and double room were perfectly acceptable in terms of fit and finish. The real stars of this establishment are the staff. I never met the chef, but I know he or she put out an exceptionally satisfying dinner - I had the steak pie - and a breakfast that met all requirements. The night dinner service team put on a good show for being only 2 people. There was a young lady on dinner duty who was on breakfast service the next day, and STILL the most cheerful person in the room at 8 am. Hats off to you, Darcy Curran! She has what it takes to go far in the industry and she could easily fit in at a larger establishment. Here's hoping the hotel management sit up and take notice. It is the service team that will keep your guests writing reviews like this one.

A very average stay. Had opted for a sea view but after an email stating wife has walking difficulties , to which no reply, were allocated two floors up. Room was changed to ground floor at arrival but with carpark view. Room seemed to be mid renovation. Windows were filthy and one jammed closed. Room adequate and en suite redone but poor design. Poor layout of customer lounge/restuarant and expensive menu.Staff all very pleasant.
