Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

My husband & I stayed for a long weekend with the dog. Despite the Covid restrictions we still found the hosts warm and welcoming with lots of helpful tips to make the most of our visit. The whole hotel was spotless and they were taking the necessary precautions very seriously but still had time to make us feel at home.

My partner was brought up in the village so we go once a year and have never tried the ash bank before but we were pleasantly surprised.
We sat outside where they had a few table and chairs and was made very welcome by the owner and the passer boy’s.
We both used the toilet on different visits and it was clean.
We will definitely go back on our next visit and I’m sure my partner will enjoy all the whiskeys again😜

We arrived very early and thought we’d see if our room was ready , we’re greeted by owner and in no uncertain terms he told us that we needed to come back at 3pm earliest . I’d wasn’t very friendly . When we went back his attitude was totally different . Room was great but shower in bath and Im not sure how a less mobile person would be able to get in . Breakfast was excellent and we were made to feel very welcome . Good experience after dodgy start

I stayed for one night. It is a lovely location, quite remote and I was glad to get to the hotel after a long drive down a single track road. The owner was welcoming and showed me to my room.
The room itself was okay - it was clean and the bed was comfy. The decor was a bit dated and rough round the edges, but this seems to be pretty standard for hotels and bnb's in the area, and it is an old building I suppose.
TV in my room wasn't working, I reported this and was told the aerial was broken. There was a working tv in the lounge downstairs, but I decided to watch a dvd in my room instead.
The most disappointing bit was the hotel were not able to provide any breakfast, as the owner had to leave very early the next day. To be fair they did explain this when I arrived, but at that point it was too late to go anywhere else. This should be explained at the time of booking. In place of breakfast they left me a packup of cheese sandwiches and crisps, which was a nice intention but not really what you want to eat at 7:30am!
Overall it was ok just for a quick stopover, but shame about the breakfast.

This is hotel is more in the nature of being a pub with rooms available.
Bedroom quite small for two people and suitcases. There was nowhere really to unpack and store clothes
Bathroom small with shower with plenty of boiling hot water. No shelf space in the bathroom for toiletries. I had to use the toilet seat for my toiletries when using the bathroom.
Our room had twin beds, which were very comfortable.
Both the bedroom and bathroom were very clean
Generally the hotel was in good decorative order.
There were clear instructions as to how to connect to the wifi. However, I found connecting heavy going and would prefer a simpler password and an obvious network and not a bewildering array of wifi extenders.
Lack of accessible power points to charge a mobile
Need to place kettle on the floor to boil was a danger
The view from our bedroom was over a golf course and out to sea with Arran in the distance.
Well-proportioned cooked breakfast, which we needed to order during the evening before.
Generally we enjoyed our stay and are happy to recommend the place.

Just stayed 2 nights at this lovely little hotel in the heart of the pretty village of Carradale. The village has pretty well everything you need- post office and shop, a number of lovely cafes and a couple of restaurants ( currently need to be booked ahead).
Ashbank is run by a lovely couple, who work very hard to make it a really great place for guests. Their little bar with outdoor seating was the perfect end to the day.
The rooms are immaculate, clean and cosy. The breakfast is delicious and very filling. Covid precautions are well designed and working well, without making things inhuman.
There are so many walks starting from the village which take in bays, beaches, forests, but our favourite was Deer Hill Trail which took us to a viewpoint where we could look down on the village harbour, the bay and views across to the mountains of Arran.
Super visit. Great memories.

Ashbank Hotel was a favorite stop of ours on our honeymoon, and our hosts treated us very well. The hotel is small and cozy and quiet. The rooms are not large, but have everything you need. The bar and sitting area downstairs were a great hang out space for guests and locals alike. We had a tasty breakfast at the hotel in the morning, and our hosts gave us good recommendations for where to get dinner in town in the evening. We loved walking around the small village of Carradale around our hotel and down to the harbor.

Stayed here on a quick 2day trip round Kintyre…..brilliant weather combined with great little hotel….friendly hosts willing to help (very accommodating when needed to change at short notice by calling them directly) and give advice on all things in the area…..room spot on with a great view of golf course, the sea and Arran, lovely cosy lounge (which we didn’t use because most of the guests were in the outside area sitting chatting having a few sundowners with the hosts) and capped off by a great local breakfast…..unbelievable value for money

Sharon and John are exceptional hosts helping to tailor this holiday to our individual needs. Very friendly and relaxed ambience; delicious breakfasts and comfortable socially distant tables. Bedroom had a beautiful view to the coast and a large comfy bed. Sharon was very helpful with tips for local walks and where to eat and book for an evening meal. Thanks to them both for helping us enjoy such a relaxed holiday.

This hotel is cheap and cheerful. I booked a single room while working in the area, the rooms are small and compact, very clean and the bed was comfortable.

There is a great atmosphere in the bar in the evening and owners are friendly and approachable.

Excellent breakfast.

Will return if in the area.
