After searching for somewhere for our first holiday we decided on pier cottage at Auchenheglish Lodges. Not only was this the first one we came across when searching for a waterfront holiday but also surprisingly the cheapest but it’s hard to see why it was so cheap in comparison. The lodge was very clean and tidy and was just lovely. The main thing that struck us was the view through the large lounge window of the loch....the pictures really do not do it justice at all! We were very lucky with the weather over the weekend and I managed to enjoy my morning coffee outside just taking in the stunning view of Loch Lomond. It’s not just the lounge that impresses either! The skylight windows in the bedroom allow you to wake up to the same stunning view and we even had them open a little through the night and you can just hear the water lapping up on the shore and nothing else which was so peaceful. We even had a clear enough sky to just lay in bed and look at the stars through the window above the bed! The cottages are easy enough to get to just off the main road and access to pier cottage was through a secure and well lit path. There is a large patio/decking area with table overlooking the loch which would’ve been fantastic for an evening dinner had it been a little warmer! It is next door to another one of their lodges yet remains private and secluded enough that you are never really bothered or intruded upon like you would in some other places. The complimentary pack of wine/butter/jam/bread is a very nice touch and really is enough to get you up and running but if you need more there are supermarkets 5 minutes down the road in Alexandria and Balloch and more choice 10 minutes away in Dumbarton. There is plenty to do around the area and I can highly recommend taking one of the boat cruises (we used Sweeney’s in Balloch as it was closest) and also a walk around Balloch castle country park. We also had a drive over to Balmaha on the other side of the loch and a brief walk around the forest trail which we may do properly next time but we were more interested in finding a good spot to watch the sun set at the time (picture taken near Tom Weir’s rest in Balmaha). I also have to give credit to Liz for accommodating a small but important request for me. They were in regular contact regarding this and also the booking itself and I really feel they want to do what they can so you enjoy your stay. If you’re looking for a secluded place to stay and relax whether you intend on exploring or just relaxing by the Loch I can highly recommend Auchenheglish Lodges. We certainly will be visiting again!!…
Just returned from these wonderful lodges , we were based in the criench lodge , slight changes to the lodge this year new entrance and repositioning of a few items make this lodge a whole lot better , so very comfortable and views which have to be some of the best of Loch Lomond , the whole place was spotlessly cleaned and very welcoming well done to everyone involved , we can’t make next year but already booked for 2022 at the heron lodge for a change thanks to liz and the team for another great break
We (3 adults and a teenager) spent a very enjoyable week in Bonny Banks Cottage. It was very well appointed, with all the comforts of home. When we arrived, everything had been satirised, and we had no worries about staying there. A real bonus was the hot tub. Lockdown meant that we couldn’t really venture outside terribly often, so we were able to make full use of the tub, even when it rained. There were the usual little niggles with the property but I have to say that the owner, John, and the estate management staff, Liz and Wendy, were very quick to visit the cottage and put everything to rights. They were superb, and went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure everything ran as it should. The estate grounds were lovely, and made for an enjoyable walk each day. The local town of Balloch was two miles away and had a useful shop, Lomond Stores, which was handy for newspapers and bread/milk etc. There is a very large co-op in the town, too. We had brought all our food with us, but we wouldn’t do so again, as the co-op was so good.…
Very grubby & uncared for patio with green mould inc on chairs . Not luxurious as described on website. Our ‘unique view’ was of this patio & overflowing bins with no sign of Loch. No instructions of how to find the loch path. On advising manager about patio, someone came to jet wash chairs only. Unable to use freezer as it was completely frozen up. Informed manager & asked for no one to go in whilst we were out due to both privacy & Covid. Bathroom was not clean with black mould in various areas & filthy extract fan. Our request was ignored & someone came in whilst we were out. Freezer was defrosted & attempt made to clean bathroom but still had to finish it ourselves. More things became apparent & so advised we would email once home. Hairdryer not working, spare one wouldn’t reach from plug to mirror, not enough mugs & cutlery to use dishwasher, light in bathroom going off every time mid shower, difficulty using dishwasher as drawer couldn’t be pulled out fully, toilet lid loose, out of date cereal in welcome pack, shiny wooden stairs with no grippers & so are lethal. We were told that our issues had been taken on board but no specifics were given. It was also pointed out to us that several bookings had taken place both before and after ours and there had been no complaints, the implication being that we were making a fuss about nothing. It was not nothing. These properties are advertised as luxurious & we paid a premium price for 2star at best. Very disappointed.…
