Duck Bay Hotel boasts a charming atmosphere and spacious rooms that have received commendations from guests for enhancing their stay. However, the hotel's value proposition often comes under scrutiny, with some travelers feeling let down by the high costs of food and drinks, subpar accommodations, and lack of attentive service. While the picturesque views and restaurant are highlights for many, issues with seating policies and inconsistent service quality have been noted. Room experiences vary, as some guests find them cramped and uncomfortable, whereas others are satisfied with the size and scenic views.

For 1 week we stayed at the premier inn and then 2 nights in the duck bay whilst attending a funeral. Paid £200 almost for 2 nights and the room was cosy but my observations were improvements could be made.

1. Was hoping for a Loch view and looking forward to a large room and a nice bath, on arrival no bath, small room with the view of a car park. They should update their website to inform of this, otherwise I wouldn’t have booked. You book you pay and then it’s a lottery. Not good!

2. Large sanitiser at reception, why I don’t know it doesn’t work, instead a bottle on reception which is fine but why leave a large floor standing sanitation stand that’s broke?

3. Breakfast, on arrival large fridge help yourself, after we asked as even milk was in bottles so we assumed as you would, milk would be brought to table, it wasn’t, and when I ordered scrambled eggs there was enough for 2 mouthfuls, like there’s an egg shortage.

4. Ordered a pot of tea for 2 and on table are they small cups, the pot didn’t even fill up 2 cups let alone allows us a 2nd cup each if we wanted.

5. Room was small, and a note on window, don’t open window the midges will be in, so supply a fan then, the rooms are small and get clammy, got to morning and couldn’t wait to get outside just for fresh air.

The hotel is beautiful and the setting nice, but in my opinion staying in 100’s of hotels around the U.K., £100 a night I expect more. The little issues shouldn’t be there and are easily noticed and why they’re not addressed I have no idea.

I write this to help management get the hotel better, and provide a better experience all round but please sort the website out, for £100- night I don’t want to looking at a car park and struggling to walk round a bed with no bath, don’t hide it on the site allow guests to choose if they want a car park view or Loch view.

We stopped off for some lunch at Duck Bay Restaurant having been a few times before we were looking forward to it due to our previous positive experiences. This time was quite a let down though. The service was good, the staff were attentive and friendly but the price and quality of the food let us down. We paid £15.99 for a sharing starter, which consisted of 4 small breaded mushrooms, a tiny pot of haggis, neeps and tatties, an even smaller pot of pate and 3 chicken goujons. For the price they charge, I was expecting more food on the “platter” but the small portions and average taste were a let down. Rather than ordering a main we ordered an extra 3 sides to come at the same time - garlic bread, chips and mac & cheese. The garlic bread was served with a dressed side salad and was nice but the chips and mac & cheese were small portions for the price. I ordered a portion of chips for the same price at another restaurant not too far away and I was served a portion at least 3 times the size! This experience wouldn’t put us off coming again but an assessment of the prices charged for certain items and/or portion sizes would lead to a better reflection of the quality and quantity of the food.

We stayed 30th Dec, very busy place, got in room at 2.30pm, the views are lovely, we were only there one night then moved to Balloch for the bells, wish we done the 2 nights in Balloch, did it for something different but there is nothing you can do there, theres no walks possible.
Couldn't get a drink in the restaurant/Bar unless having food, i wanted to sit at the window to have a drink to take the views in but was told i had to buy food. There was a little lounge next door that sells cakes/sandwiches etc that we sat at.
Room was nice, shower was dodgy, just a hose coming from bath so was hard to get a decent shower, wife had a bath but was short lived as black stuff coming out the tap.
Had a lovely breakfast, staff were very nice, view would have been amazing from our table but were unlucky that we had bad fog that day so could see nothing.

Main restaurant are was beautifully decorated for Xmas, outstanding.

Ended up jumping a taxi to Balloch, was only between£5/£6 so was worth it as saved on food and drink which paid for the taxis. £4.25 pint of best. Irn brew £3

All in all lovely room, view, staff but pricey and nothing to do, lovely place in the summer to visit.

We booked online using their website the day before we arrived. On arrival, the member of staff at reception was extremely unwelcoming and short-tempered. We had arrived from Edinburgh where wearing our masks in all communal indoor areas was required, however the receptionist told us to remove our masks which we found odd. I gave our name and reservation details, she checked her screen and told us rather aggresively that we did not have a booking and that we could not have booked through the website as it wasn't working. We had booked through their website and I had the email to prove this. After a little 'discussion' she suddenly found our booking and begrudgingly gave us our key and told us that all the information we needed was in the envelope she also gave to us with the key. We made our way to our room. The room was very small and tired. The lavatory was loose (not properly fixed to the floor), as was the loo seat. The door handle on the door to the room wasn't properly fixed to the door and could shift about 1/2" or so. The next morning a member of the household team got very irritated with us as we were leaving our room as I was using the key to lock the door and she stated I should have been able to lock it from inside and just close it behind us - in fact due to the lock being somewhat temperamental that was not possible (when we weren't being growled at later in the day we checked). The whole room felt extremely tired. It was also a very small room. We had paid for a Loch view - and there was a view but the balcony looked over a flat roof that was the heihgt of the balcony wall so that obscured the view greatly. Prior to arrival we had high hopes for the hotel from the website but were very disappointed. The breakfast was decent, and the staff at breakfast in the hotel restaurant were fine (not particularly friendly, but not as unwelcoming as the receptionist on arrival.) Superb location for a hotel but some of the staff really let the hotel down. The room we had, and the communcal areas are tired and the carpeted areas throughout the areas we used are in dire need of a deep clean. The warm friendly and exceptionally helpful staff next door in the Duck Bay Restaurant where we dined could really do with giving the hotel team some lessons in hospitality. With regard to covid measures there was a screen at reception but guests were not required to wear masks in communal areas which we found disconcerting. Some of the housekeeping staff were wearing masks but some were not. However waiting staff at breakfast all wore masks. The hotel stay was not expensive by any means (£139 for B&B) but compared to what we had paid in two different beautiful hotels in the centre of Edinburgh (with lovely rooms, great location and lovely staff) on the previous nights it was really not good value for money at all. Very disappointing.

We have never been to Loch Lomand before and we seen there was a cancellation for one of the cottages on site, which we booked for the weekend Friday to Monday. We checked in at the hotel reception where we were given the keys and controls for the electric gate. We also paid £600 security deposit in case of any damages etc.8

The cottages are excellent, there are 2 which are exactly the same in terms of layout and hot tub at either side. The cottages have 1 bedroom downstairs and 2 upstairs. In the kitchen was menus for the restaurant and a little hamper of cereals, bread, jams, butter, tea and coffee etc and milk in the fridge also.

Hot tub was cleaned every day by maintenance who have access to the hot tub themselves so no need to disturb you. This was done at 9am mostly.

Front room had a nice fire, TV and a Bose speaker which we used when going in the hot tub which was good quality.

The view from the cottages is amazing and it was nice to sit at the table out on the front on a morning and have breakfast. We ate at the restaurant on one of the nights and the food was really nice too with a nice area out the back, also with a great view.

The back garden was huge with a bbq, seating and playground for kids etc but we never used this area as we enjoyed the front area more. During our stay I got flowers delivered to the lodge and they also delivered a bottle of champagne that was ordered by a member of our family. These were delivered by housekeeping who were really friendly.

We will definitely come back here as its one of our favourite places we have been.

In hindsight, we should have read the reviews. The view is spectacular and the decor in both of the rooms and the restaurant is fresh, light and modern.

However, this is where the positives end. The food is greatly overpriced for the quality of what you receive. £10 for a Croque Monsieur should’ve been the first indicator. The ‘Wagyu’ burger which we received at dinner was brought out too quickly to have been freshly cooked. The taste for what was supposed to be a luxury cut of meat was akin to a frozen burger. The bacon tasted undercooked still had white, grisly fat attached and the cheese was neither melted nor left hard. A positive was the dessert, which was very good.

We were asked far too many times if we were finished our meal, whilst taking a bite of our meal, it began to feel like we were being rushed out the restaurants to. Also, whilst trying to complain about the quality of the food, the servers seemed only interested in turning over the table rather than delivering good customer service. The service, I am afraid to say, was slow when you needed assistance and far too fast when wanting to relax and enjoy your meal.
The cleaner also let themselves into the room whilst one of our party was changing - without knocking- which was very unpleasant for the party member as they were not appropriately dressed to be having any cleaning staff barge into the room unannounced. This left us all feeling very uneasy and uncomfortable - luckily this was 40 minutes before checkout time so we made a swift exit.

The hotel had huge potential to be outstanding. However, the food and overall service need to be improved in order to match the high standard of the decor, view and location. Our main concern was the quality of the food above all: you pay £18 for a burger that is the quality of a £4 burger, leaving a sour taste in our mouthes. I do feel as though it is charged at that price because they can for that view of the loch (which is outstanding). Overall, for the price and quality of experience, we were left utterly disappointed.

It is such a shame that this place just isn't what it appears, we had such high hopes, yet were let down on every aspect.

We have visited duck bay marina previously and were very impressed by the location, extremely scenic on the edge of loch lomond with really great views.

We booked for a single night, paying £190. This is an awful lot of money, but we didn't mind, believing we would get a premium experience with a beautiful view. This, sadly, was not the case. When we checked in we were placed in room 21, this was a very tiny room with little space. We didn't really mind this, what upset us, however, was the fact we had been placed at the front of the hotel and not looking over the loch.

For £190 a night we expected something a little bit better than a shoebox on the opposite side of the hotel to what we wanted. We went downstairs to the cafe and this was also hideously overpriced £4 for a cappuccino and £3.95 for a miniscule scone with jam.

Let me point out now that i understand this industry has been savaged by covid, but if you are going to inflate and charge such prices then at least offer value for money. As customers it is not our fault and we have all been hit hard by the pandemic.

The worst experience was at breakfast. The food we found was horrendous. The bacon was offcuts that were really thick and covered in fat (a cheap ingredient used in pies etc). The sausages had very little flavour. I normally wouldn't have requested a new egg, but for the price i paid i was not going to settle for a hideously overcooked fried egg. This was eventually rectified after i had finished my breakfast. The eggs were also very tiny and lacked flavour, i am guessing these were from caged hens (although i may be wrong).

If you are inflating your prices so much at least offer value. Our room was £120 - £140 maximum (not £190). The breakfast was disgusting, and as a business you should be ashamed using such sub standard ingredients. I believe you should think about your customers and start offering value for money, because currently you are deceiving them and not providing a service they expect nor have paid good money for.

Tip: go to the lodge on Loch Lomond instead (in Luss). Much better hotel, great food and much better views too and cheaper in cost!

Visited on Sunday 19th July with Family. This newly refurbished restaurant is something special with outstanding views. The menu selection is brilliant and the food is of the highest quality and beautifully presented by very attentive staff. This was our first dining out experience since the relaxation rules were relaxed and it was good to see so many customers enjoying the venue which is immaculately clean and systems in place to protect customers and staff. Don’t think twice about visiting this restaurant.

What a wonderful wonderful 2 days at Duck Bay Hotel Loch Lomond. If there ever was a hotel that could showcase how to run a business during these difficult times this is it!! You would never know Covid was an issue everything done discreetly and quite impeccablely but feeling really safe. A very busy restaurant run by an amazing team who work incredibly hard and very together. Teams kept the same and temperature tested everyday. Housekeeping staff were just lovely too and their job has doubled. Our shower washed down even though we didn't use first night. The decor is perfection and so tasteful with everything thought of. Lots of plugs beside mirrors, and difusers to rid the disenfectant smell. Food beautifully presented and tastey. I asked for photo to be taken but said to waiter "you are probably not allowed" he smiled and informed me he was the only one who could as he did not handle food etc. Absolutelly everything has been thought of but with discretion. No big signs saying everything you cannot do, just subtle instructions of all the measures that were being taken to ensure everyones safety. Thank you Ducks Bay we shall return!!

Stayed here for the last time on Saturday. Our room was tiny with an even smaller dirty bed. Our bathroom sink was broken and the view we were sold was not as described.
I tried to complain in the morning to the uninterested receptionist who simply gave me a smug smile and told me the dirty bed was ok because they were being changed soon.
I then tried to email a complaint only to receive a response telling me it was what was advertised.
After checking the website again I still cannot see where it advertises small overpriced dirty rooms featuring hobbit size beds with hygiene concerns. Also no mention of views overlooking a kitchen roof disguised as a poorly installed 4g football pitch. The website also fails to mention broken bathroom suites with no bath available and barely enough room to stand up straight. Terrible customer care must come as standard as no mention of this either
Better off sleeping in a tent at Loch Lomond. There will be more room, it will be cleaner and you won’t wake up feeling like you have been robbed of £250
