I Travelled with my partner and 19 yr old son. Having never been to Scotland before we weren't sure what to expect. We went with National Holidays and the journey from Wolverhampton did make for a long day but we stopped for a services break and then again at Gretna Green. Arriving at the hotel we were greeted by a member of staff whom boarded the coach and gave us all the info we needed for our stay and once stopping at reception for our keys we were in our rooms in a few minutes, It was all very efficient. The rooms were fine, ours was very warm but that is personal preference and it is winter, a little dated but had everything that you needed and they were clean, lovely hot water and a great comfy bed. Downstairs the bar areas and facilities were clean, comfortable and had a nice atmosphere. All the staff were polite and friendly and always spoke to us. We were given a table in the smaller dining room for breakfast and dinner which made for a more relaxed experience which I preferred as I don't like to eat with too many people. The menu was different each day and my partner and son had plenty of choices and never went hungry. I am gluten and dairy intolerant and would have struggled for choice with the normal menu. However our waiter for the the week was Oor Willie and the service we received from him was amazing. Each morning I had a specialist menu bought to my table so I could choose for that evenings meal, I had at least 2 choices per course all to my requirements. For breakfast I had specialist breads and hot items cooked to my preference. I never had to wait for coffee, water etc and his table side manner was impeccable. We never had to lift a finger and nothing was too much trouble for him. We had drinks included in our package and found it very good value and plenty of choice. Entertainment was good with Burns night celebrations and comedy/music acts every evening. I am in my late 30's and found the content really entertaining. it wasn't just entertainment for the older generations as you would presume from a coach holiday. The hotel grounds are lovely and overlook Loch Long which is beautiful. Overall we could not fault the hotel or National Holidays and really enjoyed touring Arrochar and the surrounding area with them. Will definitely consider returning again in the future.

After reading some of the reviews on here, I felt a bit apprehensive about what it would be like, especially as another couple came with us. We stayed for 3 nights and had a 3 course dinner, bed and breakfast and 4 drinks each night! For what we paid we got a great deal. Yes the hotel is a bit tired and dated but what can you expect for what we paid, I knew it wasn't going to 5 star luxury.
Contrary to some other reviews when we arrived we were told check in wasn't until 4pm but we were allowed in to use the toilet. We popped to the Village Inn and had lunch to kill time.
I was pleasantly surprised when we got to our room, it looked like it had had an upgrade although I am unsure how long ago. We had 2 single beds but we just pushed them together. We had tea & coffee facilities which you could replenish yourself at reception. There was a tv and desk and chair and a decent sized wardrobe. The bathroom was fine and we had a nice shower. The towels weren't changed or the room serviced but again if you asked at reception you could get new towels and additional toilet roll.
We booked through Caledonian Travel although we did a self drive as we live only 50 minutes away. We were the youngest in the hotel by a good 20 years but this didn't stop us enjoying our trip. The hotel was very busy and there was a lovely atmosphere.
I will say I have never ever eaten a 3 course meal so fast in my life. There was a different menu each night and each course had about 4 different choices. The food was delicious, obviously not Michelin star quality but it was very tasty and hot, but really, served so quickly. The started plates were taken and then they ask what you want for your main and they pretty much took the dirty plates away and brought out the next course within about 1 minute (no lie).
We never went to the entertainment each night as we were happy just sitting at the bar playing cards or chatting.
Really lovely break after not being anywhere for the last 2 years pretty much. It is what it says on the tin and for what we paid it was excellent value for money.
Stunning views of Loch Long and lots of nice walks. There isn't too much to do within Arrochar itself. We drove to Loch Fyne to the Oyster bar one day which was lovely but I would book in advance as it was full for the restaurant for the 2 days we stayed but you can get a takeaway. We also visited the Falls of Falloch and The Drovers Inn.
Really nice break away!

with National Holidays - we are a couple in our late forties and although the main clientele are retired in age this was not an issue as everyone we spoke to couldn’t of been more friendly and made the trip enjoyable, so don’t be put off if you aren’t retired yet!

From getting on to the coach to coming home we thoroughly enjoyed the break. The hotel is in a perfect spot on the banks of Loch Long and you are able to walk along the loch from outside the hotel. The staff at the hotel are lovely and the staff in the dining room are very quick with their service.

Our room (227) was very clean and modern and was cleaned every day whilst we where there with clean towels etc. We didn’t upgrade to a loch view but we still had a lovely view of part of the loch and mountains from our room. The bed was comfy and tea and coffee etc replenished each day.

The food at the hotel is fabulous especially for the price you pay. In a morning there are plenty of choices for breakfast with good quality foods on offer - large choice of cereals and cooked options as well and you can just help yourself and the staff are always coming round cleaning empty plates and offering tea and coffee.

In an evening there is a choice of 3 starters and mains and deserts as well as the chefs special. Every meal we had was good and we enjoyed each course.

While we where there we had a Burns Night evening which was good and a piper brought the Haggis in which was nice to watch.

There is live entertainment each evening, all of the acts where good and the best one was the comedian on our last night who was not only funny but a good singer as well.

Can’t recommend this hotel enough and the coach holiday experience - the trips out where very good and our coach driver Paul was very informative and friendly.

We will definitely return for a break at the Claymore and also with other trips with National Holidays, cannot emphasis enough what good value it was.

This is our second visit as part of a National Holidays coach tour although I have visited over 20 years ago as a coach driver. This visit was an improvement on our previous visit, especially the bedroom. This room had obviously been recently refurbished and was tastefully decorated in neutral colours. It was warm, comfortable, had tea and coffee making facilities and had a flat screen TV. This was a vast improvement on the stone age TV we had on our last visit. Breakfasts were excellent, with a large range of options. The evening meals, however, were very variable. We ordered the turkey escalopes one evening and what arrived was wafer thin slices of turkey in a white sauce with different vegetables from those listed. When we ordered we were not notified of a change of menu and nothing was said when the food arrived. Perhaps some more customer service training was needed. Generally, however, the quality of the staff was excerllent, especially the bar staff. Entertainment was good in parts. Almost two hours for three cards of bingo was over the top. Be warned. We will be back!

Following the partial lifting of travel restrictions, our first trip away was several days in Scotland. Our first stay was at The Claymore Hotel in Arrochar, overlooking the northern stretch of Loch Long. The surrounding area is stunningly beautiful, but sadly things were not quite so beautiful at the hotel.
We were pleasantly greeted at the check in desk, fully sanitised and Covid friendly and directed to our room. This was located down several corridors with twists and turns and looked very tired. We discovered the hotel had only been reopened a week earlier, but sadly the down time did not appear to have been spent cleaning or refurbishing the hotel, or at least not our room. Don’t get me wrong here, the bedding was clean and fresh, the bed was comfortable and due to the lack of customers we enjoyed a restful night’s sleep. The decoration in the room however was drab and tired looking, window frames were rotten in parts and in need of repair, skirting boards were also in need of a cleaning wash down. The bathroom was a good size with a clean white suite and shower cubicle, but similar to the bedroom the skirting boards were in need of a clean and wash down, the walls needed painting, as did the rear of the bathroom door. Cobwebs and a large dead spider were not the extras we were hoping for.
Check out was straightforward and involved very little interaction with any staff. Sadly this is not a hotel I would revisit or recommend, but my opinion is based on my stay and may differ from other opinions and experiences.

We travelled to Arrochar with National Holidays on a Burns celebration. We have to say the hotel was a little disappointing rooms very basic. Our shower was not working on the first night, which we needed after a ten hour coach journey. They fixed it the next day but there was no pressure.had to jump around to get wet.
Please be aware there is no lift which is not for people of our age fortunately we were on the first floor which only involved two flights!
On the positive side the food was good and the staff very friendly especially Willie in the dining room.We had included trips there was entertainment every night a very good burns evening piping in the haggis It was a very good deal price wise with inclusive drinks.

The hotel is in a beautiful location, the views of the Arrochar mountains are beautiful. The hotel needs a makeover especially the bedrooms, the carpets are really dirty, the shower was mouldy and your sharing the bathroom with hundreds of different flies, moths and spiders, the rooms need a deep clean and carpets replaced. Also never seen one cleaner whilst we where there.
The bar and dining rooms where nice and clean, apart from one of the guests tried to open a window and the window fell apart, this was in the piano bar,all the window frames looked rotten. The four free drinks was great idea, was well used, the breakfast was good, a good selection of choice, the dinners where good apart from our last night, when the waitress presented one of our guests with a normal meal, knowing our guest was gluten free, our guest would have been violently ill, there excuse was it wasn't there usual head chef, any chef worth there salt knew not to serve that meal,it seemed to go wrong when our usual waiter Josef had the night off,Josef is brilliant and very attentive to all our requirements for our gluten free guests. After our near miss we reported it to the duty manager and he wasn't for listening nor was the hotel manager we reported it to the next day. If everyone had the brilliant attitude of Josef the waiter, the place would run exceptionally well, dining room and kitchen staff need made aware how dangerous service someone the wrong meal could leave guests seriously ill

Many thanks for your review on trip advisor. I'm sorry you had this experience in the dining room - it was a highly unusual mistake for us to make and procedures have got to be followed. It looks like in this case it was not - apologies again. The manager you reported it to did listen and went to investigate and find out what had happened. I don't know why you think he didn't. When you reported it to me I explained what had happened and then you understood how the mistake could have been made. At no time did we not listen as you state here. Thank you. Gary Watson.

Just returned from a 5 day stay at the Claymore, the hotel is in a stunning location public areas have a nice decor but the rest is very dated. The staff are very friendly and obliging especially in the restaurant, compliments to the chef for a good choice of menu special thanks for the amazing Steak and Ale pie. Our room was on the ground floor looking over the back of the hotel even though I had asked when booking to upgrade, the bed was clean and comfortable now for a big BUT the bathroom was atrocious so small my husband could hardly turn round, the shower cubicle was moulding round the base, the rubber mat was mouldy (I asked for this to be changed but nothing happened) the wood panelling round the room made it so depressing and I seriously think that this cubicle had not been cleaned properly since it was closed for covid the management need to get a grip on housekeeping. Holiday was advertised with evening entertainment but there wasn’t any not even background music very disappointed.

I can see why this hotel has had so many mixed reviews and a lot of it seems to be created around expectations. Having recently stayed there as an independent traveller. i can only say i was disappointed.
The web site for the hotel seemed to suggest the rooms were bigger and nice looking than they actually were, that Wi-Fi was available in most places and there was a choice of eating times and restaurants (2). The reality was completely different a room with a view of the lake advertised as 25 sqm and with a nice bay window was actually only 15 sqm with a relatively small portrait window, Wi-Fi was only available in one place and the restaurant choice was none existent as were the choice of times. Now i can understanding only having 2 servings for dinner and a freedom breakfast but everything was geared towards the coach traveller. Nothing wrong with that if I had not paid a premium rate for your stay.
On the positive side the food choice was relatively good , if sometimes served too quickly and cold, and the hospitality trays adequate. the staff seemed to be a mixed bunch but some could do with a lesson in smiling whereas others were really helpful.
the location iImust say was lovely

so, if you go as part of a coach trip or party , you may have a good time depending on the quality of your room and it does seem to be reasonable value when you take into account travel and excursions. But for an independent traveller I would avoid until you get treated on at least and equal footing to a member of a coach party. As a consequence of this poor experience i would not necessarily recommend any coast and country hotels that deal with coach parties, as you don't what you will get.

We have just spent 4 lovely nights at The Claymore Hotel with Caledonian. We were accommodated in room 514 which had a beautiful view overlooking Loch Long and The Cobbler Mountain. The room had everything you need, hair dryer, TV etc, it was warm, spotlessly clean, and water was hot. The staff at this hotel are the most attentive I have ever experienced at any hotel in the world. Rachel and the reception staff were always on hand willing to help. The restaurant was beautiful, and mealtimes were staggered so there was never any queuing for food. Breakfast is traditional English buffet which is constantly kept full. There is also a variety of cereals and fruit. The staff work tirelessly and are constantly making sure all your needs are attended. Dinner is waiter service with 3-courses chosen from a menu. The food was always hot, of an excellent variety and quality with different choices and an optional vegetarian dish each night. The hotel has several lounges and good entertainment is provided most nights. The bar manager, and his staff are excellent and ensure you never have to wait long to be served. Our driver Gary was exceptional, his knowledge of Scotland’s history and commentary on the tours he and Ian provided were a pleasure to listen to. They constantly kept the coach entertained with their humour and treats.
The Claymore is a beautiful hotel run by outstanding staff with great food and ales.
Thank You Claymore Hotel
