We arrived at 3pm to check in with our itison voucher which included b&b plus £30 towards food and beverage. Upon arrival we were given room 212 however the room was very cold and in need of a good clean. We asked to swap rooms and the girl on reception was very nice about it and let us pick between two other rooms, the one we wanted wasn’t Loch view but really warm and cosy but unfortunately still needed to be cleaned so we had a coffee while we waited again girl on reception very helpful as we also had to go back for towels.
After a bumpy start things really improved when we went for dinner the food was superb. Being a chef myself I couldn’t fault the food at all soup was lovely and well seasoned, tiger prawns cooked perfectly and for mains the portion sizes was great and I must say the brownie was one of the best I’ve had. The service was very smooth and friendly also. Breakfast was cooked to order along with continental buffet very nice and no complaints. At checkout I had a £30 excess to pay for top up of food and drinks however the coffee from our wait the day before was added but the nice lady on reception removed this due to the issue with rooms (thanks again)
This hotel was just beginning a large refurbishment when we departed which as the hotel is an old building it really does need. The hotel has great potential to be more than 3star and I’m looking forward to returning once the refurbishments are completed. Thank you for the hospitality.

Cons:

The hotel is very dated & you will think you have stepped onto the set of “The shining”

The staff apart from the main woman on reception are so unwelcoming. The first woman when we arrived & asked what time we could book in at gave a one worded answer then just stared at us which made us uncomfortable so we just left & wondered about the area until we could check in.

The restaurant staff are even worse. I felt like I was getting watched all the time for every bite I put in my mouth. The split second I put the last bite towards my mouth they were straight over practically snatching the plates from me. Same in the morning at breakfast. I felt very uncomfortable & my Husband felt the same.

Don’t waste your money on the starters in the restaurant. My Husband & I were very disappointed with them. Looked like it was just thrown onto a plate & definitely not worth the money. Taste wasn’t great. The mains & breakfast the next day made up for it thank goodness.

There is free WiFi however it is as slow as dial up speed from back in the day.

Pros:

The Location. Beautiful views. Easy to get about the area walking & further in car from this hotel.

I for one felt the hotel room we were in was clean, just old as previously mentioned. The bed was very comfortable & had a great sleep as it was absolutely silent at night.

The main meals were absolutely delicious! My Husband had the cod & chips & I had the vegetable fajitas. The breakfast was very good also.

The price per night, can’t complain.

With all this said. As my Husband & I are out exploring all day & therefore don’t need to worry about unwelcoming staff we would maybe stay here again due to the great location for convenience or maybe just try one of the other hotels that are right next to it.

Many thanks for your comments. It is unusual for me to get such negative comments about my staff and I apologise wholeheartedly for the impression you have left with. I hope you will return as I am sure whatever happened was a one off and you will have a totally different experience.

A decent location right on the loch, with plenty of parking. It was ideal for me to break up a journey towards the Mull of Kintyre.

The staff were lovely and very helpful. There were decent Covid measures in place, including hand sanitizer, distancing and requirement to wear a mask.
They had a good selection of hot and cold food at breakfast, and a generous 11am checkout.
As a solo female traveller I felt safe in the hotel and the surrounding area.

The only real downside was the room. It was so tired, with old and dirty, peeling wallpaper. The kettle in my room was dirty too, but they switched it at reception and gave me a brand-new one. If this hotel had a good lick of paint and a clean, it would be great.

Very dissapointed with the cleanliness of the hotel. Our room was not serviced until our 3rd day. Even after asking and leaving the door card out. The day after our arrival I had to go to reception for tea coffee and milk as there had been none left due to not servicing the room. The next day I needed to do the same again and asked for clean towels. After waiting quite a while these were given to me at reception as there was nobody available to bring them up to the room? Then the day before we left the room was serviced and 4 large towels placed on the bed, this obviously meant no cleaning as the carpet was dirty from out shoes and the bothroom floor was not mopped?. No cleaning of our room took place throughout our stay. The lift was never cleaned or sanitizer that we saw the whole of our trip, there was 2 pieces of broken luggage in the lift on arrival and the panels and doors marked with fingerprints They were still there when we left. Our room had a fantastic view over the loch - unfortunately the room was very dusty with fingerprints all over the draws and handles, cobwebs were hanging from the ceiling when we arrived, I thought with not being long out of lockdown the hotel would have had a deep clean but it did not seem so.
There were only 2 body wash dispensers in the bathroom, no shampoo , conditioner or soap. This was not such an issue as we bought some nearby. The hair drier worked properly.
The food in the restaraunt was excellent we could not fault it. Drinks from the bar are cash only, but if you have a drink from the bar with your meal in the reastaraunt it is added to your room bill. I was informed by the barman on my first day drinks could not be added to my room bill. This was after standing over 5 minutes to be served while he counted some money and wrote some notes.
When I when to check out I was overcharged for drinks I did not have and when I quiried it and all the receipts were checked they conceded I must not have had the extra drinks and reimbursed me for them
Overall the hotel is in a great location but is in need of at least a good clean throughout and updating.
I personally won't be rushing back to this hotel as there are others in the area

This hotel needed what we needed it to do which was to sleep however we won’t be returning.
Check in was slow with minimal information given regarding location of breakfast, opening times etc.
We were staying on the second floor and our room had a brilliant view however the room was in desperate need of some TLC and very small. All the walls were different colours and didn’t match. It looked like a child had painted the room. The walls were dirty with coffee stains and dirt on the walls. No mattress protector was on the mattress and I’ve seen more feathers on a dead goose than in the pillows. I had to ask for more pillows as they were very thin.
Tea and coffee was very minimal and we needed to buy tea and coffee as we were only supplied this on the first night. The cups were not washed when the room was cleaned.
To avoid cleaning the rooms the hotel is offering a free drink to not clean the room which we didn’t accept and the room was still not cleaned.
The bathroom is in need of a refurbishment and the vents in need of a desperate clean as there was lots of dust in the vents.
We only has breakfast once in the hotel which was more than enough as it was very poor. The bacon was hard, scrambled egg were more milk then eggs.
We decided not to eat in the hotel on an evening and eat out most evenings. There is a good local pub for meals which was nice.
It was a shame the inside of the hotel didn’t match the surrounding areas as it’s in a beautiful location but the inside needs some desperate attention.

Just back from an overnight at the Arrochar, a great deal purchased for us by our Son. The staff are exceedingly friendly here and the food is exceptional. only real negatives are that some of the rooms (i believe some have had a makeover but our room hadn't) are a bit dated and could do with a spruce up and the common areas look very 1970s. The food was great value and exceptional quality and the service beyond anything ive had in much more expensive city centre venues. The bar lacks a bit of imagination, especially when described as having a "whisky bar" it's probably fine for most but for whisky geeks like me it came across a little lacking. overall a great experience and we will be back.

Enjoyable stay after a bad start of being given a room that was filthy but that more down to previous occupants room 225
But on returning to reception was given a different room on first floor, this room was exceptionally clean.we stayed for 3 nights with breakfasts and evening meals.
The good was a fairly decent standard only complaint really was portion size of the pork dinner, was definitely a children’s portion.
Choice of a meat fish or veggie dish eat night with starters and desserts that were all nice
Would definitely recommend for location

Just returned after a bus tour. The hotel is in a lovely location on Loch Long but that really is where it stops. We were allocated a room off the main staircase very old holes in the ceiling possible water damage . Ancient wallpaper maybe 70s scruffy carpets. The bedroom was ok clean bed linen and a good view over the loch. Unable to open windows so it was stuffy . The tiny bathroom had a tiny shower cubicle. Nice toiletries. I had requested a twin room with a shower after recently had surgery this was confirmed after booking in June. The night before travel I received a call from the tour company to say I could have a shower but it would have to be a double room. I felt there was no option to accept but on arrival I was disappointed that the bed was a small double and made it very uncomfortable. It really spoiled our holiday. The hotel was very full too.
The food was very hit and miss. The first two nights the food was fairly good but got worse as the week passed. The service is very fast and the food is literally served the minute you place your order. The dining room staff and bar staff are excellent and very friendly . As a group booking you are allocated a meal time which is fine if you are going out on a tour but no flexibility on your free day. I think 7:45 is a bit early for breakfast when you are on holiday. Dinner time was also allocated. On the whole I would not go back here. Despite the lovely staff I want a bit more comfort.

The location is great, the receptionists are friendly and helpful. The room overlooked the loch which looks amazing.
BUT the hotel is dated and needs a 'freshen up'. The beds are uncomfortable. The breakfast is an experience never to be forgotten. You are greeted by a stern faced and unfriendly guy who tells you where to sit. Think Mr Mackay from Porridge. The decade the décor came from. Then less than 1 minute after taking your breakfast order, your food turns up. Never a good sign, and it was confirmed by eggs too long under the warmer, sausage that looked like it had never seen a frying pan and bacon that I could have used to fix that hole in my shoe. The good news was the breakfast was tiny. The second morning was worse! My plate barely made it onto my table before I sent it back to try again. My wife’s plate was returned a minute later. She doesn’t like to complain. The second attempt was better but still not great. Needless to say, we chose not to eat our evening meal here, not just because of the breakfast experience but also because the dining room, and indeed all of the bar area that doubled up as foyer/restaurant, had all the warmth of an airport departure lounge. And I don’t mean one of the concession areas. I mean the bit where you are sit waiting for your flight to be called.
My advice is don’t have the cooked breakfast, eat evening meals in the excellent pub down the loch and only stay as long as you can function on limited sleep.

Return trip to this hotel. Our room was nice enough however was very warm and there was no way of turning the temperature down on the radiators. We opened the windows to cool the room down however at night it was then impossible to sleep as the noise from the road was very loud.
Unfortunately the mattress on our bed in room 218 was terrible with the springs coming through at several places which resulted in a very uncomfortable night sleep.
Breakfast was average however there is an older (not old but older than the usual young people serving) gentleman in the restaurant area who is always very cheery and chatty. Most of the staff were friendly and efficient and chatted away.
I have a suggestion as to the front door, in that the cigarette bin is moved and guests are asked not to smoke at the stairs. This is the only entrance and every time I had to go in or out, someone was smoking and I personally find it disgusting to have to walk through this, especially is there is no other choice.
Absolutely stunning location and generally a nice place to stay.
