Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed for 2 nights, great location for Loch Lomond, plenty of pubs and things to do. Close to the train station with easy access to Glasgow. Host, Andrea was really friendly and the breakfast beautiful. Would definitely recommend.

We stayed here for just one night and it was a good place to stay at, the room was nice, clean and spacious. the host was lovely, polite and funny. Very good location with just a 5 or 10 minute walk to the shops depending on your walking speed a good place to stay at.

We spent two nights here to tour the Loch Lomond region. The hosts, John and Andrea, were very helpful and kind. They prepare delicious breakfasts including really excellent french toast. Our room was cozy small but very clean, neat and well appointed. The location was great for touring the area. We especially liked our cruise on Loch Katrine aboard a steam powered vessel over 100 years old. Gowanalea House is located within minutes walk of a train station that makes access to/from Glasgow a breeze. It's quick, easy and eliminates all concerns about parking a car in downtown Glasgow.

Lovely place to stay easy to find and parking a great bonus. Flexible check-in times are helpful. Nice accommodation comfortable and quiet We were greeted with a tray of hot drinks and biscuits which was most welcome. Choosing breakfast the night before makes for great timing in the morning and the selection of choices is amazing. Great area to visit with lots to see and do Andrea is really helpful and a great host.

The host Andrea is fantastic, so welcoming and friendly. Her breakfast was too notch. The rooms are clean and comfortable, it’s great value for money. I wish Andrea would open a pub in town, because no doubt it would be fantastic! We went out for dinner and drinks in the town of Balloch and were disappointed in the service and quality of drinks in other places, and we were thinking how lovely it would be if Andrea had a pub or restaurant too. Andrea for mayor!

A very nice and comfortable place with friendly and accommodating hosts. Big and functional rooms. Great cooked breakfast which you choose from a menu the night before. Parking on-site possible, but limited, but free street parking right outside the yard. Pubs and restaurants nearby.

Gowanlea was fantastic. After 16 days at a variety of hotels and B&B's on our road trip around Scotland we wrapped up our last 2 nights in Balloch at Gowanlea. It was without doubt the best 2 nights we spent and great value for money. Our host, Andrea, was fantastic. Her suggestions for local attractions around Loch Lomond were most appreciated. The accommodation was comfortable and the breakfast options varied and tasty. We would recommend Gowanlea Guesthouse to anyone looking for accommodation close to Loch Lomond.

Andrea was an absolutely amazing host and the breakfast was one of the best I’ve had in a B+B. The guesthouse is lovely and the facilities within the room more than adequate. The only small negative I have is the room we were in had a very thin adjoining wall with the adjacent room, so much so that we could hear absolutely everything next door. The first night we stayed there it really felt like our neighbours were in the room with us. This says more about the guests to be fair who lacked manners and social etiquette. On the second night we had a very peaceful night as our new neighbours were much more aware of their noise levels. Please don’t be put off by this review. We had a great time in the area and Andrea certainly is a wonderful host. The guesthouse is PERFECTLY placed, with adequate parking. We walked everywhere. Had it not been for the disturbed first night - which was no fault of Andreas there would have been no negatives at all.
