We had a lovely stay at Portnellan. It is such a beautiful place, very quiet and peaceful, yet not too far from Crianlarich and Tyndrum for stocking up.
We were a family of 4 (and a dog) staying in one of the bigger lodges (which can sleep 8 and can therefore accommodate more than one family). The lodge was clean, very spacious and well equipped, with superb views.
We received a very warm welcome from Tracey on our arrival, and Cameron and the rest of the team are very helpful !

We enjoyed time out on the loch in the rowing boats and kayaks (included in the rate for the week), and also some days out exploring the area.

Portnellan itself is located right at the starting point for Ben More if hillwalking is something you like to do. (Apparently there is no higher mountain anywhere south of Ben More in the UK).
Portnellan's situation near Crianlarich is also ideal for exploring the whole area, as roads lead from there to Glencoe, Oban, Loch Lomond and Killin.

Crianlarich is serviced by a train station, so if you wanted to, you could leave the car and relax on a train while taking in some of the breathtaking scenery on the route to Oban, or across Rannoch Moor to Fort William.

Within very short drives are the 'Falls of Falloch', and also the 'Falls of Dochart' at Killin, which is a beautiful wee village. There is a lot more, but a week doesn't allow enough time for doing everything.

We mostly ate at the lodge, but did have fish and chips at the 'Real Food Cafe' in Tyndrum, which was good and not too expensive.

We took most of our food with us, although there are stores in Crianlarich and Tyndrum (The Green Welly Stop in Tyndrum being the biggest). Oban and Helensburgh are around an hour away and have more choice. Cameron can also arrange for food from local producers to be ready for you on arrival.

Overall, we had a brilliant time, and look forward to returning at some point.

We had a wonderful stay at Portnellan. It is a beautiful place—very quiet and peaceful, yet conveniently close to Crianlarich, making it ideal for exploring the entire area. Roads from Portnellan lead to Glencoe, Oban, Loch Lomond, Luss, and Killin. We stayed in Stob Binnein, which was clean, spacious, and well-equipped, offering an amazing view of Loch Dochart and the surrounding mountains. Cameron was incredibly friendly and helpful from the very beginning of the booking process. We would definitely return!

I travelled alone for the first time and desperately wanted to go to Scotland, it was very scary, especially as someone with autism but I couldn't have wished for a better accomodation; from the location to the service! The online communication was great and in-person it was even better! The lodge was very very clean, I've never seen anything like it. I appreciate that the owners care about the environment, it's especially reflected in their care of the property and the information for the guests. Care was very personal and pleasant! I felt really welcome and genuinely appreciated. Usually going on vacation feels like a transaction of some sort but the warm welcome and efforts of the owners made it feel like a second home. Special thanks to Cameron for helping me with my many, many (many) questions and for making me a smoothie (that I unfortunately couldn't drink, darned allergies). I'd be honored to come back here again and see Portnellan and Crianlarich in a different season!

We (family with two children 12 and 9) had a fabulous stay for the English half term week in the Pinemarten lodge. The lodge was beautiful and stylish inside and the views outside were breath-taking. We had a fair amount of rain during our stay but there are plenty of large windows, so you can appreciate the scenery even whilst keeping dry inside (and we could then venture out when the rain passed). Cameron was on hand with plenty of information and help and the lodge was kitted out with everything we needed and high end kitchen appliances - also including a washing machine and tumble dryer as well as dishwasher. We also used the games room for table football and table tennis one wet morning, which was really handy to have on site. There were some good local walks leaving directly from the site - the one up Ben More was an adventure with the kids and had some great views all the way up and down. We also drove to visit some further sites especially enjoying the Glencoe valley and tubing and the chairlift at the Glencoe Mountain resort

Highly recommended and we will definitely look to return when we are next in Scotland

Un disturbed peaceful sleep in the most comfortable cosy large bed we have ever slept in. The chalets are spotless with dishwasher, washing machine and dryer and all kitchen utensils you will ever need. Fantastic views all around and at night time the beautiful clear sky full of stars I have never seen a sky at night so pure. Dogs are very welcome and keep them on leads as the abundance of red squirrels that are everywhere and feed daily right up to the chalet bird feeders and the various species of birds all can be seen, a wildlife spotters paradise. The various styles of chalets to suit all family and couple sizes are well spaced out for privacy. I went fly fishing for my first time ever with Rob, fabulous, friendly chap with humour and exceptional experience of fishing, you can ask anything and everything, go and fish everything provided. Clay pigeon shooting is also close by.
You have free use of canoes and boats, we took our dog on the boat she loved it. Worth a visit to the secret island in the middle, kids will love this if you add a magical story. Plenty of close by walks, villages Killin you will fall in love with the falls, great food at the pub at the bridge they even serve a special culinary food for your dogs, just ask :)
Portnellan we can’t recommend enough, all though I have just tried, book and visit for yourselves to have a thoroughly relaxing, stunning views and the delightful red squirrels, the owners Cameron and Lucy are always on call should you need anything. If you mange to climb Ben More you’ll be rewarded with an amazing all round view. Highly recommend Portnellan.
My husband and I brought with us one well behaved dog, she loved the walks too.

We are a family of 5. 3 sons aged 5,11 and 12. Although it was cold and damp when we visited Portnellan, we still had a wonderful time. The scenery is absolutely stunning, with lots of adventures to be had- total bliss for outdoorsy children. The owners provide lots of perks onsite such a free use of rowing boat and kayaks on the loch, a games room and Nordic BBQ huts which are great fun. There are adventures to be had on the doorstep or the likes of Glencoe, Loch Tay and Loch Lomond are only a short drive away. The chalets are a perfect retreat after a day in the outdoors- lovely and warm and finished to a very high standard throughout.

I've stayed at Portnellan twice now, once in An Caisteal and once in Lapwing. Each time, Cameron was a great host and helped make my trips run smoothly. I hosted a 40th at An Caisteal in December 23, and we also hired Red Stag, Capercaillie and Lapwing. Cameron was very accommodating on the run up to it, and gave me all the info I needed to set things up, even providing me with details of local suppliers for food and catering.

My recent trip was in Lapwing for a week - it is perfect for two people; small but comfortable and nice and warm with a west facing decking so you can enjoy a beer with the sunset. It's one of the properties on the north side of the road, which means you're closer to the loch for kayaking and also it's quick to get onto the track to Crianlarich.

I used the lodge as a base for outdoor activities - climbing munros, cycling and running. I also toured a little, heading to Oban and Fort William, which are within an hour or so by car.

I found the lodge and amenities provided by Portnellan to be very good, and the location is great if you've got a car. Unfortunately, Crianlarch / Killin is not linked too well for pedestrians so a bit of walking alongside the road on the verge is required. It's only 2.5km walk into Crianlarich from Portnellan, of which you can spend just under half on the old railway line and the rest on the verge. Maybe not ideal if you've got young kids. Once you get to Crianlarich however, it's possible to join the West Highland Way, so one of the days I cycled out to the Bridge of Orchy hotel, via Tyndrum, to get some lunch.

The games room and gym is a nice addition, and Cameron has a small selection of local meats and some drinks available to buy from the visitor centre. The site is beautiful, sitting in the shadow of Ben More with a river and loch nearby for those that like watersports. There's even a castle on the island in the loch - what more do you need!

I'll definitely return to Portnellan, hopefully in the near future.

Just returned from an idyllic family stay at Portnellan, and we just want to go back! What can I say….if peace and relaxation is what you’re looking for then I couldn’t recommend Portnellan more highly.

Booking was very straightforward, loads of helpful info was emailed prior to our arrival, check in and check out was as chilled out as could be, even our groceries from the local store were kindly unpacked for our arrival into our cosy warm chalet. The chalet was really well equipped with all we needed, and what a view! A great base from which we were able to enjoy exploring the Trossachs and Loch Lomond area.

Thank you for a wonderful stay Cameron and Lucy, and we definitely plan on coming back in the near future!

We brought my elderly Mum for a week and stayed in Pinemarten. Fabulous accommodation, spotlessly clean and comfortable with a ramp instead of steps. There were BBQ's available if we wanted them, but we chose to eat out whilst we were touring during the day. Mattresses and duvets were first class, with everything we needed for a lovely stay, the slippers and dressing gowns especially welcome. The shop in the village kept us stocked up for basics, we didn't use their delivery service but it is available. For a cooked breakfast there are places in Tyndrum, 6 miles away, and for a lovely coffee and cake try the Artisan cafe in an old church on the road to Tyndrum. All in all a fabulous stay, and we will go back.

Great facilities. Idillic location. Hospitable and helpful hosts. Take a rowing boat into the middle of the loch and immerse yourself in unspoiled nature. Different locations on the Estate offer different environments and views. You can choose from Loch views to being nestled in mountain scenery. Good choice of different types of accommodation also. Highly recommended.

The views are lovely, we were there at Easter, but I would imagine the colour to be beautiful in summer 😊. We were in the last chalet, Fisher I think, so unrestricted views.
