Spent last weekend at the hotel. Entertainment on both nights one very good.Room was large and very clean but wallpaper coming off the wall above the radiator which could have been stuck back down with a little paste. Breakfast was fine but dinners didn't do it for me. Ran out of fish the first night and chef's special on the...

Yes, I know that this is a hotel review but the highlight of this 5 day Shearings mid-week break were definitely the trips. Firstly the hotel. I have noticed that the word 'Tired' is frequently used in these reviews. The hotel is approx.350 years old, so I believe it is entitled to be well worn. The place is full of...

All in the title . An hour and a half from Oban, en route to Glasgow makes a nice stopping off point for a long journey . Very picturesque setting. Hotel could do with a make over, but then they don't charge the earth. Breakfast included was great value...and very tasty. Staff very friendly and helpful as well. Don't expect...

Hotel is getting a little tired and could do with a makeover but then it's not expensive so I suppose that's the trade off. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and would give them top marks. Breakfast was also top value as included in the price. Free Wi Fi....well wasn't accessible in the room, but was at the bar. So...

This is a big old hotel in a great location half way up the side of Loch Lomond, with superb hill walking right on the doorstep. The rooms are a bit tired looking, with some of the creakiest floorboards on earth. However, the room was clean, warm and offered all the basics. Breakfast is a buffet affair, and was fine,...

Visited in November on a last minute booking. How Shearings make any money defies logic.Picked up in our home town in East Midlands, brand new Mercedes coaches.Hotel in wonderful location, food is good, not spectacular but then wouldnt expect it to be for what we paid.Drinks vouchers have an approx bar value of £55 per person depends on what you drink.Room was small, warm and...

The hotel is well situated to explore Loch Lomond and beyond with good walks on the doorstep. It is an old victorian building with creaky floorboards and full of historic character. It requires some decoration but is very clean and tidy. My wife and I spent an enjoyable four nights and found the staff very friendly. The meals were very...

Have just returned from 5 day break at the Tarbet Hotel. The first room we were given was very noisy from outside traffic,so we upgraded to another which we found very pleasant. The meals in the hotel were very good with plenty of choice and the staff were excellent. We were given drink vouchers for each day and entertainment was...

Dear Reviewer, Thank you for taking the time to post your lovely review. I appreciated your remarks regarding the negative comments, we try our best and the team are always striving to improve. Its good when someone can see that perhaps we are harshly treated sometimes! We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Kind regards

I cannot understand why therewould be such disparaging reviews of this hotel. The hotel is old world charm, creaking floors, uneven corridors and the carpets need cleaning.Having said that, the welcome and facilities were excellent. We moved rooms as it was freezing cold and I spotted a portable heater which spoke volumes. We moved to a side room 128 with...

Situated 300 yards from the shore this is a splendid location even in November. The hotel is owned by Shearings and is set up for coach parties although all travellers are welcome. However, bookings can only be made for pre-detetmined periods starting on a given day of the week. Despite this restriction, the hotel is well run and very good...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Situated within one of Scotland’s largest national parks, the Tarbet has had a rich history as a resting place for travellers for over 400 years. The present building dates back 250 years and was built in the Baronial style. The exterior has recently been redecorated and the hotel presents an impressive first impression even today. There are a total of 69 rooms arranged over two floors, some of which offer spectacular views. The surrounding scenery is second to none, as the hotel looks out over Loch Lomond and Ben Lomond from its location on the banks of the Loch itself. Admire the beautifully decorated restaurant where some tables overlook the loch and take advantage of the spacious entertainment lounge with bar. The Tarbet also has the benefit of a comfortable residents’ lounge with board games and books to help you relax and unwind. The perfect end to a great day’s sightseeing. ... more   less
