Room was good size however it was a family room and the single bed was over the radiator which made it difficult to access the control. The bar downstairs was extremely busy with noise emulating into the room till about midnight when it closed , woken up about 4:30 in the morning with what sounded like something being dragged about upstairs and this started again around 6:30 with noise coming from rooms above . Breakfast was good , however the only gripe would be the staff who were arguing and then swearing which I found completely unacceptable luckily there were no children in at the time. We had booked for two nights but given our experience we checked out after only one . I would no recommend it to people looking for a relaxing break .

We arrived early but room was ready and were given a very friendly reception from the bar staff, one of whom showed us to our room. We stayed in a suite which was lovely. Had dinner in the main bar. The standard of food was excellent as were the waiting staff. However, next morning's breakfast experience was like something out of Faulty Towers! Had to ask for cups, had to ask if we could have breakfast after sitting for 10 minutes. There were only 2 others in the dining room. We were asked what we wanted to eat without being given a menu. No teaspoons on table. All other tables were strewn with dirty dishes. The staff spent their time talking in the kitchen. Quality of food was good. This spoiled what was otherwise a nice stay.

Booked for 2 nights as visiting family, I would Say a pub with rooms, cheap accommodation, parking over the road in free car park. Nice pub, bit rowdy but nice decor and cheap drinks. Rooms nice and clean (just one massive cob web, high up on ceiling) some bits need improving like shower seal, black in places. Breakfast room definitely needed a good clean, cereal on the floor in the same place two days running and breakfast very average with minimal choice.

The room was great and the food in the restaurant looked amazing (didn’t get to eat there). The breakfast was excellent and cannot fault the staff. We stayed the night of the bonfire display in Dalbeattie so not sure if this was a one off event but there was partying until the early hours of the morning, really loud music and typical drunkards outside. Not sure if we were just unfortunate with our window but even when it was closed, it still sounded like it was open. Would recommend for party goers or on weeknights but possibly avoid Fridays and Saturdays!

We visited the Birchtree for a couple of nights for the first time recently as our family are from Dalbeattie. On arrival we checked in at the bar. The bar staff showed us up to the first floor, and directed us to the staircase to the 2nd floor where are rooms were. (There is no lift at the hotel). We booked 2 double rooms, the Galloway Hills and the Lighthouse Room. I would describe the Birchtree more of a pub with rooms rather than a hotel. The double rooms have a shower and sink in the room, rather than a separate bathroom. The toilet is separate behind a door. There were signs apologising for refurbishment works happening until early November. Unfortunately we didn’t find our room up to standard and were informed they’d been recently refurbished. Rooms: they were quite dusty, shower head was so full of gunk it was blocked (pictured), there was a hole in the wall, no pillow protectors, no headboard so the wall is stained behind the beds, and the mattress protector had large yellow stains. The beds were quite comfortable though and we slept well. You can’t really open the window though due to the noise outside (traffic, river and town hall bell) so a fan is provided if it gets a bit hot. The smaller shower head did work and water pressure was good. The linen (excluding the mattress protector) was clean and crisp. A lamp bulb was not working that we reported but this was not replaced during our stay. We found there was a heated towel rail in the toilet, but nowhere to hang a towel near the sink or shower - a small towel loop near the sink would be helpful. Breakfast: we ate breakfast at the hotel both days as this was included in the room rate. We were served by the same young chap both days, I think the staff do their best and our server seemed busy in the kitchen as well as taking orders. We found attention to detail to be poor - you help yourself to coffee/tea, juices, cereal and toast. There was no bread, butter, or teaspoons. We had to ask for these as they were not replenished. Tables were not cleaned/reset for new guests, so on the 2nd day we had to ask for cutlery, napkins and a cloth to clean our own table to be seated. The table that was free was also wobbly so had to stick a napkin under the table leg. I think some extra staff at breakfast would be helpful to keep an eye on these things and clean tables after guests have finished breakfast. The food itself was pretty decent, the poached eggs were delicious and bacon seemed good quality. We did not eat our lunch/dinner in the hotel but pic uploaded of the hotel menu - it seemed very varied. Friday night was quiet in the bar, but Saturday was very rowdy. This did not affect our sleep but when we came back to the hotel at 9pm on Saturday, some of the punters were shouting/arguing outside so we went up to our rooms rather than having a drink downstairs. I would stay at this hotel again if they rectified some of the niggles with the rooms - it was pleasant enough and very convenient for us centrally in Dalbeattie. It has nice views over river as well from the garden.…

Front reception staff on hand can eager to guide us to our room. Room was very clean with plenty of towels etc. Everything worked as it should, we decided to have an evening meal at the hotel, and were offered lounge bar or dinning room to eat.We just had a bar meal in the lounge bar, which was fine for us.Do think as the bar got busier it would have been quieter in the dinning room, but we were early so not a problem. Meal was very good and my wife& I came away full (without desserts). As was breakfast in the morning, very well laid out and main breakfast served to our table. Staff were mostly young and very polite cheery and helpful. We would recommend The Birchtree and Dalbeattie is a nice place to visit. For my wife a grand garden centre and tea room, for my self lovely forest walks right on the edge of town.…

The room was clean and very nice. The evening meal was superb. My only grumble is, that the following morning the chef didn't turn up and we had to wait an hour and a half for breakfast. The breakfast was very good when we got it eventually.

We had a lovely stay and our room was comfortable and clean, but overlooked the river which was really lovely during the day. The fast flowing river kept us awake, but you couldn't exactly ask it to be quiet LOL. We enjoyed a lovely dinner and the breakfast was huge. We had come to Dalbeattie for a business trip and will be happy to stay at The Birchtree Hotel again when we next visit

We only stayed one night but it was an excellent stay, Our rooms were very comfortable and warm after having rained all day on our journey. The staff were friendly and helpful and we appreciated being able to be fitted in for dinner at 7.30pm after having arrived at 6pm and not really wanting to go out and search for a restaurant. Food was very good - fresh, hot and tasty. Breakfast was also very good and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. As it was a Saturday night, the pub below the rooms was quite noisy but as soon as it was midnight everything went quiet. Definitely would recommend it as a place to stay.

Friendly staff, good sized room, good central location. Free parking across the road. Decent food. The staff were friendly and helpful when we arrived at 7.30pm and showed us to our room. Food was served until 8pm and it was decent pub grub, would eat there again. Breakfast was a good serving and the staff were friendly. The hot food is ordered and served to the table, but you help yourself to coffee/tea/orange juice / toast / cereals. I would stop there again.
