Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

...old fashioned hospitality, in the best possible way! A lovely characterful house sits in an elevated position above the town, yet only 5/10 minutes walk to the centre and harbour area. There is private off street parking so you can safely leave your vehicle when walking/exploring the town’s areas. From initial contact with the hotel until the time you leave you are made to feel as a valued customer with a friendly and efficient team in Maggie and Fred. Because you are a little out of town this is a quiet and safe area, yet plenty of other local hotels in town for wining and dining, some with entertainment, If you are looking for a relaxing stay, (with an indulgent hot tub!), you will be assured of that and more at Rickwood. Would highly recommend and definitely a ‘return to’ establishment!

We have just returned from a fantastic stay at The Rickwood. Maggie and Fred are fantastic hosts and give great advice on where to go and where to eat. We stayed in The Factors Suite and it was lovely, it was so nice having our own little seating area. Breakfasts were delicious and a great choice. Also the Rickwood is 3 mins from the harbour, a wee hill to climb back up but well worth the effort...absolutely perfect. We are already planning a return visit.

Fred and Maggie were very charming, attentive hosts during our 5 day stay. Lovely room with great view over the town. Breakfasts were a delight, always cooked perfectly. Perfect and peaceful. The owner's attention to detail is exemplary. If ever in the area again this hotel would be our first choice.

We were made to feel very welcome and so were our two dogs. Room lovely and clean and a good size. Breakfast very tasty. Enjoyed our visit. Only problem was that 2 nights was just not enough! Had absolutely no complaints.

Thanks so much to Fred & Maggie for their warm & welcoming hospitality & for looking after us so well during our 3 nights at Rickwood! Exceptional service & the personal touch, made our stay even more comfortable, & we loved learning about old Portpatrick from Maggie & about the history of the village. The pebble painting & hot tub with a stunning view, were also icing on the cake! We left feeling refreshed & recharged & will definitely return! Thoroughly recommend!!

would highly recommend this bed and breakfast from the very warm and friendly welcome from the couple that run it, the very clean and comfortable rooms too one of the best breakfasts i have in years. With the added bonus of a beautiful sea view and close proximity of harbour/pubs we couldn’t of asked for anything more and wee didnt even get a chance to use the hot tub lol.

Friends have stayed at the Rickwood for many years and suggested it to us, it did not disappoint. Maggie and Fred cannot do enough for their guests, all you have to do is ask. The whole establishment is immaculate. Breakfast was first class and the choice is outstanding. We will definitely be back. Thanks very much !!!
