Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Being early for the ferry to Belfast we (my wife, sister, brother-in law and myself, called into the Craignelder Hotel at around 15.30 on Sunday 4th February and went into the Bar/Restaurant hoping to get some bar food and drinks. We entered the bar and went to sit in corner seats below the TV when a lady behind the bar, chewing Chewing Gum, said, in a vert curt tone "you can,t sit there, thats being set for diners", We said that we would like to eat and we were told in no uncertain terms that lunch was over and that the evening menu was not available until 18.00. Thats fine, but when we wen to sit down we were told that the only place we could sit was on the bar stools. My sister is 68 and suffers from Crones and has a Stoma so sitting on a bar stool was not OK. Rather than offend, by walking out, which we had discussed, we decided to order a drink and hope that the mood would change. It didn't and we drank up and went to the wonderful Central Cafe in the town. Should the snow be 12" deep, the ferry cancelled and the Craignelder the only hotel opened, I will never set foot in it again. Any wonder Stranraer is a ghost town following the Ferry Terminal Closure with a welcome like we received at Craignelder.

Lovely hotel and food. Only issue the restaurant in the evening overtakes the hotel . Absolute hectic at meal times with no time for staying guests . Card machine stopped working so unless you had cash a bit of a kerfuffle.

Our welcome was warm and friendly as we were shown to our room in the annex. The room was very clean and contained everything we needed. Breakfast and dinner were well cooked and flavoursome. We can't recommend the Craignelder too highly!

Clean room, refurbished bathroom but the rusty shelf was off putting. Sink not big enough to fill the kettle so water spilt over floor. Soaked the bathroom floor with the shower. Don’t personally like a shower curtain as it just clings to you in the shower. Great breakfast.friendly staff.

We visited the restaurants for an evening meal. This was our first occasion visiting this location. We had good old fish and chips. With a side salad and vegetables. There was enough to feed an army. We had a lovely cheesecake and cream for desert. The service was efficient and quick, even though the restaurant was very busy. All in all it was great value for money and very enjoyable. If you are considering going I would suggest that you book in advance, as it is busy.

Popped in today for lunch. Spotlessly clean, modern and bright. Great value for money. Friendly and helpful staff. As the owner of a local pub myself, it's nice to see these standards. Keep up the good work. Wendy B Ship Inn at Drummore

Very enjoyable lunch, good selection of starters, mains and sweets as well as a light bite choice. We sat in the new extension overlooking the bay. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Lovely home cooked food at a reasonable price. Well done to all.
