Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely little guest house ideally situated on the front. Friendly welcome, clean room, fantastic breakfast and all round good value. Room 4 (at the top) with its restricted headroom probably not the best for anyone over 6' but otherwise a great choice for a short stay or for an overnight stop if catching the ferry from Cairnryan.

We were warmly welcomed by the lovely couple who run Harbour Lights. Had the room on the top floor. Was a perfect size, roomy enjoy to get about and nice size ensuite. We were offered a dram of whiskey upon arrival, we declined as were exhausted by the long trip from Canada. Such a nice touch that cookies and chocolates were provided, along with coffee. We had two breakfasts and both excellent, and couldn’t beat the price. Definitely 5 stars and would highly recommend a stay here.

Room Tip: Stranraer is such a small town, shops and restaurants close very early in the fall.

Just arrived with my wife for our overnight stay. Our room (number 2) is spacious, airy and extremely clean. We were warmly greeted and shown around and even offered a complimentary shot of Scottish whisky! The lady quickly explained the use of the keys if we ventured out on the night and answered one or two of our questions about the town layout. What we wanted for breakfast was chosen from a long list which even included haggis! The bathroom is very large and well laid out and the giant bed is to die for. I feel very fortunate to have stumbled onto this little gem of a guest house and cant wait to get stuck into my hearty breakfast!

this was a return from a trip several years ago and it was just as good now as it was then. Excellent room, friendly reception on arrival, lots of information re where to eat in the evening and our early morning departure was easily accommodated. A huge thank you for a great stay.

If you are looking for accommodation in Stranraer, look no further than this guest house! The hostess, Rhona met us on arrival and gave us a warm welcome and showed us to our room, even offering us a wee dram to settle in. She also offered fresh milk to add to the excellent tea tray. The large upper room was spotless as was the en-suite, which had all the necessary toiletries. Two chairs and a small table were at the bay window and gave us a view over to Loch Ryan. Excellent sleep in large comfortable bed followed by superb breakfast - I had freshly made porridge to start off. Couldn't believe the low price for such a most enjoyable stay.. Well done, Rhona and Colin.

We had a super overnight stay here in early June before heading across the sea to Northern Ireland. It's simply a fabulous guesthouse with wonderful owners/hosts. We stayed in room 2, which was just lovely and spacious with a large window looking out to Loch Ryan. Its en-suite bathroom was large and contemporary. Little touches in the room were very thoughtful for the "forgetful" traveller too. Highly recommend staying here and the full Scottish breakfast we devoured the next morning was just spot on and kept us going all day! Thank you guys. We'll be back!

Everything was great, lovely room, shower, beds comfy, breakfast delicious and good choice, hosts very welcoming and friendly. Nice wee dram of whisky on arrival. Everything was spot on. We were going to Belfast on the Stena ferry which is only a 10 minutes drive. Fully recommend.

Rhona and Colin go out of their way to make you feel at home. The beds were really comfy, the ensuite shower room lacked for nothing and a complimentary nip of whisky on arrival slipped down lovely. Breakfast was to a standard I'd normally expect from a 5 star hotel. My only gripe is they are closed when we need to go in September.
