The West Arms is a traditional Olde Inn (16th Century) with beams and uneven slate flagged floors, roaring open fires and low ceilings. It offers an abundance of warmth and charm with quirky individuality. No bedrooms are the same. We are a privately owned business with a wealth of experience, offer a friendly informal welcome. We have 15 bedrooms, a superb Chef who has a great pedigree, lovely friendly staff and are situated in a beautiful location. If you want a bland boutique modern hotel with a lack of soul, The West Arms is not the place for you!

We stayed here on a cold November evening and the lovely warm fire was very welcome. The room was very comfortable and the dinner and breakfast were delicious. It really is the perfect combination for a stay in this beautiful part of Wales.

Escape to your weekend retreat. Nicky and Mark ensure the warmest welcome from the second you arrive, welcoming you back like family. The hotel is the perfect get away and in a beautiful setting. The food is fantastic and drinks in front of one of the many fires ensures you leave any stress in the car park. With many local walks and fantastic sights to see, this is the perfect spot to de-stress and enjoy some good wholesome family time. The locals make you feel welcome and before you know it, you feel like you are one of them... Super food, great wine list and very well stocked bar. But all of this is pointless without the perfect host, which Mark and Nicky are! Go, enjoy and relax... you will not regret it!!

Just lovely, fantastic welcome, amazing room we stayed in the willow suite which is definitely worth paying the extra money for. Idyllic place with great walks for my dogs, pretty special beer garden too. The food is fantastic and all piping hot. Nothing was too much trouble, we will definitely be back here

We enjoyed our stay at the West Arms. We were greeted warmly and well looked after. Our room was large, comfortable and spotlessly clean. We loved the decor of the hotel which has retained the quirkiness of an old building with lots of places to tuck oneself away. The slate floors and roaring fires were delightful. The views from the restaurant were spectacular.

I recently had the opportunity to stay at the West Arms Hotel in Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog. I loved everything about it from the location, appearance, interior decor, rooms and food. Best of all (if I had to pick a best!) was the warm welcome from owners, Nikki and Mark. Their welcome was warm but not overbearing, they were attentive but they respected their guests' space, they were informative about local history and what's on in the surrounding area but, again, not "in your face" about it. The food was delicious and sourced locally from PGI farmers. All in all, it's a wonderful place for a peaceful and restorative getaway..

A lovely warm welcome from the hosts and the open fire. Lovely ambience. The bubble burst as we moved through to the guest rooms and found well worn, threadbare carpet. Whilst some may say this adds to the ambience of an old property, to me it says "threadbare carpet"! The room appeared fine, quaint - slopping floors etc. Not an issue, we understand it is an old building. Lovely bedding, big cosy bed. Nice pillows. Bathroom nice & clean, good white towels but they feel a little damp. Soaps, but no shampoo [ 4*?]. Simply tea tray, 1 pack of biscuits. That's fine, it all helps to keep the costs down. The shower has been converted to run from the hot & cold taps but the old mixer left in situ. Looks a little unprofessional [4*?]. Toilet flush temperamental. The bar had a lovely ambience and it was great to sit by the open fire on a cool October evening. Enjoyed a very nice dinner in the pleasant main restaurant. Good service. Return to the room to find no heating available, and it is a bit of a chilly evening. No worries, nice warm bed to climb into. Woke to find no heating on the cool morning in the room nor the bathroom. Sadly, its uncomfortable. Breakfast taken in a different dinning area. Another nice room. Places set, complete with orange juice. Hmm, no choice?? Offered a full Welsh breakfast or a permutation of any of the cooked items, felt like a limited option. Served a rack of mixed toast, again no choice. One small pot of marmalade, again no choice. Check out "friendly" & efficient. My husband advised of toilet issues & offered a solution. We felt this gave the opportunity for a "was everything ok" comment as we like to provide feedback face to face. Nope - discharged with a nice to meet you / safe journey. The Arms has lots of positives going for it, but in our opinion falls short of a 4* establishment.

The hotel is a lovely old building going back to the 16th century with oak beams and roaring fires set in in a beautiful valley. Mark and Nicky the owners made us very welcome and are very pleasant hosts. The peace and quiet of the village is enjoyable. There is a large garden at the rear that look down the valley. It is ideal for walkers. The food is excellent and served in a nice restaurant again looking down the valley. We could not fault the stay.

Amongst the Berwyn Mountain ranges, deep in the Ceiriog valley, there is a tiny and quiet village. The West Arms, a 16th century traditional Welsh inn, sits peacefully in that village, with a back garden facing absolutely exquisite scenery. The owners/hosts, Mark and Nicky were ever so friendly and helpful. Nicky has a background in big hotels and thus very focused on guest services and experiences. Mark is just busy everywhere, very often multitasking but still finds the time to walk their two gorgeous dogs,Sam and Jasper. There is another lady helping out at the inn restaurant, also very friendly and sociable, and I apologise for not getting her name. The room we stayed in was surprisingly big,the bed was very comfortable and there were plenty of spaces to put our luggages, and the wardrobe was enough to hang our coats and clothes and stuff. The washroom was spacious, with a powerful shower-head and also a soothing rain shower unit. There was a large number to TV channels to choose from, even better than some of the London hotels. The food was just out of this world, and their pretty wide selection of wines certainly took me by surprise. The meats for the steak and the lamb all came from the farm next door, and this fully demonstrate the concept and purpose of farm to to table dining. The sea bass was amazing too,and the seafood apparently comes from a local fisherman who used to be a plumber in the village! What not to miss is the sticky toffee pudding. This dessert simply closes out the evening perfectly! It is not available every night,so best of luck! The scenery and the views of the Berwyn mountains and surrounding the village and the valley just cannot be more stunning. And people around the world come here for the amazing hike and walk. Just make sure you dont go agitate the cows! A very pet friendly hotel. Locals and visitors bring their cuties there to eat, chat and chill. Met so many adorable dogs during our two nights stay and it really goes to show how the Brits love their dogs! Neither a difficult nor an easy location to get to. Most people in the UK tend to drive there, but for foreign visitors,if you dont like driving on narrow country roads, you have the option of taking a train to Chirk (many from Birmingham and Chester),then take a cab to the village. The views during the drive there is amazing too. Definitely a place where we want to come back again to. We met a handful of families and couples either from other parts of the UK or from mainland Europe, who have moved or retired to this village or surrounding villages simply because they totally fell in love with the beauty of this area when they first visited years ago. And they certainly made a great choice!

Husband and I had a romantic stay at the hotel in the Willow suite which was like having your own apartment. The staff are amazing and made you feel very welcome. The views from the beer garden were amazing and the whole village was very quiet. The dinner was lovely except for the crumble. The topping was more of an oaty crumb with a tiny jug of custard, so more custard would have been fab.

Perfect location on the journey tp Pembrokeshire from Scotland. A beautiful valley and we loved our lunch (with wine!) siting in the beer garden watching the pheasants and the Kites overhead. Nicky and Mark were very welcoming and their hospitality generous. Food terriffic. a little out of the way - but so worth the journey.
