The Hand is an ancient hostelry with all the attributes you'd expect - bags of character, a cosy, relaxing ambience and a warm welcome from your hosts, Jonathan and Jackie Greatorex. As soon as you arrive you feel the weight of the world dissolving as the surroundings work their magic. All the classic ingredients are here - old beams, roaring fireplaces, a casual mix-and-match of pine and oak furniture, real ale and good food. The latter is seriously good. Thanks to the talents of Head Chef Grant Mulholland and his team, The Hand is renowned for award-winning food, an inventive marriage of country fare and sophisticated metropolitan cuisine. The bedrooms, in a variety of sizes, reflect similar influences, with rustic decor and sparkling modern bathrooms. Country lovers just love the location. You can walk in the Berwyns for hours with only the sheep for company and the ever-helpful Hand can arrange many country pursuits, including horse riding, fishing and shooting. You may be away from it all, but you'll also be in the swing of things; this gem of a country inn is so much a part of village life that locals and visitors mix in unaffected harmony.

Brilliant family lunch in a very welcoming environment. The staff accommodated a big party of 12 including several dogs with no fuss (including several date changes). Food was fabulous and reasonably priced. Thanks. 👍

There is a lot to like about The Hand. Fabulous countryside location, fantastic inn which is clearly the heart of the community. The carol singing in the bar was a treat we will remember for a long time. Good to have somewhere that is so dog friendly. We loved the recently

Response from JGX, Owner at The Hand at Llanarmon
Responded 3 Feb 2019
Dear SEWMST I’m very glad there was so much to enjoy about your trip to The Hand at Christmas. I’m sorry not to have had your response sooner, or even at the time, so I could have rectified things either then and there, or a few days later at the very least but I’m sure you’re terribly important and busy not to have written sooner. There are a couple of things which I feel I must explain, 1, As you know we are incredibly busy at Christmas and not just with residents but as you rightly noticed, with locals too. I’m sorry if working an 80 hour week over Christmas and New Year made us look overwhelmed. If you’d said ‘knackered’ that would have been a fairer comment. It’s our 5th Christmas in the hotel and we are thrilled that each one is busier than the last, and lucky to have lots of great staff to help out too. 2, All of our rooms have been decorated to the highest standard, with luxury beds and bedding. The reason we don’t supply a box of tissues is because we were literally haemorrhaging tissue boxes through guests taking them home - 91 boxes of tissues a week soon adds up believe it or not. Which leads me on to 3, Dressing gowns. When a hotel website says dressing gowns are ‘included’ it means for the duration of your stay. These gowns cost £3 each and we supply (26) each day per room. So if every single guest took a gown home with them that would cost us £548 per week. Which I’m sure you’ll agree is an obscene amount of money for guests to take something home which they probably already own anyway. 4, we are very sorry that there is a spa treatment room at the end of the residents ‘ lounge . We find most people enjoy the fact we have a place for treatments and massages - however with it being a 500 yr old building the planners are rather sniffy about us extending to add extra room to create it. So we have to use what we have, in the space we have. 5, We are human and make mistakes regarding mixing up meals. I’m truly sorry you had to wait while we rectified it- mistakes do happen and we do always try our best to put things right, in the friendliest way possible. Anyway. There we have it. Lots of love, Jonathan.

Wish I could add a sixth star... another amazing visit. Food was top notch - couldn’t resist having the lamb again and it melted like butter. Both of us loved every course; sticky toffee was to die for. Fantastically comfy room with mountain views . We even braved the frosty

Hi there, We have 13 rooms. One suite, three superior, seven ‘country’ (standard) and two small doubles. Four of the rooms can be turned into ‘family rooms’ and two are adjoining. Three are ‘pet friendly’, five can be twins and the rest are all double. Hope that hasn’t confused you too badly if you need any more info, give us a tinkle on 01691600666 and one of our friendly receptionists will be able to advise you further. Best wishes, Jonathan

Do they allow pets?
Hi there. We welcome pets and have three, 'pet friendly rooms' which we ask customers to give us a call, should they decide to book (rather than booking online) so that we can allocate our 'four-legged friends' to the appropriate rooms and check availability. Hope to welcome you to The Hand at Llanarmon soon. Kind regards, Jonathan.
