We are visitors to the area and after a full day sight seeing we had a evening meal here. Straight away a warm and friendly welcome was given and there was a lovely atmosphere. The food was of a excellent standard all cooked to perfection I had smoked haddock with scallops with creamy pesto my husband had the steak, we... More

I visited this establishment with some friends in mid October following various recommendations from friends and family and it certainly didn't disappoint. On entrance to the bar, it had a warm, cosy, busting atmosphere. A number of people, I assume locals were milling around the bar and there was a roaring fire. The owners were very friendly and welcoming, we... More

We found this place from a book of special places to stay - We arrived on a cold afternoon in November and the tiny bar was packed with locals - so it was not possible to see the fire. I had booked supper and asked the girl at the bar to ensure we had a quiet table as my husband... More

Dear Betty, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I’m glad that you enjoyed your food and my welcome. I'm sorry that our bar was tiny (it's 500 years old and most people find it cosy). I'm sorry it was busy (those happy customers do, for some reason, keep insisting on turning up). I have spoken to... More

What a warm welcome on a cold November day. You made our stay magical. The room was cosy, clean, well stocked and comfy. Then I come to the food:- one word that is "fantastic" local produce cooked superbly. Very friendly too. Think about this:- sitting in front of a roaring fire, drinking wine, with the person you love on a... More

Booked an evening meal for myself and my niece as a treat. The restaurant lived up to all expectations. Attentive staff who were able to answer questions about the menu and who obviously knew their 'stuff'. The time from sitting at our table, ordering our first course to our dessert was just right. Even though they were busy we were... More

I took a friend as a birthday treat. Her ground floor room was pretty much ideal although next time she'd go for room 5 which has a wet room rather than a shower over the bath. Room 6, my room, was very comfortable although the shower was not very powerful. The complimentary toiletries were not tested on animals and the... More

This pub & restaurant, is situated at the heart of Llanarmon. From the outside it looks like a traditional welsh pub, however the traditional modern decor inside gives a feel of a perfect place to be after a long walk or a days shooting. The roaring fire was very inviting in the main bar. We went through into a very... More

Came here for the second time in October, everything was exactly to the same standard as our first visit. Food is simply amazing, classic dishes with incredibly clever twists, good choice and well looked after beer and the choice of draft cider. Puddings were fab and the whole meal was a complete delight! Friendly staff and warm interior! Definitely will... More

We stayed two nights at this excellent small inn located in a quiet, attractive village well 'off the beaten track' in North Wales, but well located for visiting the Llangollen area. Our breakfasts and dinners featured very good service, excellent fresh ingredients very well cooked and presented. The owners were away when we were there, but the impression is that... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hand is an ancient hostelry with all the attributes you'd expect - bags of character, a cosy, relaxing ambience and a warm welcome from your hosts, Jonathan and Jackie Greatorex. As soon as you arrive you feel the weight of the world dissolving as the surroundings work their magic. All the classic ingredients are here - old beams, roaring fireplaces, a casual mix-and-match of pine and oak furniture, real ale and good food. The latter is seriously good. Thanks to the talents of Head Chef Grant Mulholland and his team, The Hand is renowned for award-winning food, an inventive marriage of country fare and sophisticated metropolitan cuisine. The bedrooms, in a variety of sizes, reflect similar influences, with rustic decor and sparkling modern bathrooms. Country lovers just love the location. You can walk in the Berwyns for hours with only the sheep for company and the ever-helpful Hand can arrange many country pursuits, including horse riding, fishing and shooting. You may be away from it all, but you'll also be in the swing of things; this gem of a country inn is so much a part of village life that locals and visitors mix in unaffected harmony. ... more   less
