The George Team are doing their best to provide a safe, comfortable break during these very difficult Covid times. All the staff worked in a friendly, efficient way to provide clean, comfy rooms, very good dining room service and well prepared meals that are very good value for money. The hotel is stripped of any adornments but this means it is easier to keep clean. Housekeeping services are more limited to save extra staff going into occupied rooms - another safety bonus. Guests are requested to wear masks when going about the public areas. It is a shame not all guests comply but most do. A little more parking space is needed now more of us are choosing self-drive. There is room if the groundwork team cut back some brambles! Well done and good luck to all you hard workers.

First time staying at this hotel and travelling with Alfa coach company .I believe that the hotel and coach company are part of the same group .
We paid extra for a castle view room which was quite spacious , light and airy , with quite a lot of storage space .The only downside was that the room was on the street side and was subject to traffic noise and the pub opposite the hotel . However all in all this did not really bother us .The twin beds where comfortable . It would have been beneficial to have had sockets near the bed . The room was quite clean , however there were several Small areas where the paper was peeling from the walls .There was a shower over the bath , on arrival there was no bath mat meaning it was slippery and potentially dangerous when using the bath/shower . However on informing reception we were given a bath mat immediately .The television in the room was a bit hit and miss to watch has on some channels the screen pixelated that much it was not worth watching . The room was only serviced on request due to Covid .We requested fresh towels by leaving them outside in a bag before midday as per hotel policy however they where still there when we returned late afternoon , on informing reception fresh towels where brought within ten minutes of informing reception .There was plenty of tea , coffee and milk in room and replaced on request from reception . It would have been nice to have had a safe in the room , also air conditioning , however I suspect this may be difficult as it is a grade 2 listed building .
The food was to our liking , well cooked and edible . The breakfast choice did not change day to day and it would have been nice to have had mushrooms and black pudding on offer /on rotation . The evening meal was a different choice of three courses and tea or coffee each night . The service was very efficient . The serving staff where pleasant and friendly and worked very hard , You where allocated a specific table and specific times for meals .
There was entertainment on most nights of our six night stay consisting of bingo each night then on most nights also a singer which took place in the dining room . However we did not attend but sat in the large bar for a quiet drink each night . There was a smaller bar and large comfy chairs off the reception area which people used mainly at night to have a quiet drink .
Generally the hotel could do with a refurbishment / facelift as the interior as well as our room looked tired .
The WiFI could be upgraded as reception is very hit and miss , unfortunately mainly miss .
There is no hotel car park and believe the nearest parking is about a five minute walk away .
We may stay here again but possibly only as part of a package coach holiday as we did on this occasion . The fact that there is no car park would be too big a negative for staying as an independent traveller .
We enjoyed our stay and felt it was value for money as part of a package holiday and that is why we have rated it as very good .

We opted to stay here for a last minute short break this month. It was cheap and cheerful. Rooms were clean but bog standard. Could do with a bit of modernisation but nothing major.

Happy that there seems to be plenty of Covid safety things in place. Plenty of hand sanitizer points, timed slots for breakfast, tea and coffee for room handed to you at reception not left in rooms and guests asked to wear a mask in corridors (although this wasn’t asked of us by the receptionist on check in, we wouldn’t have known if my partner hadn’t spotted the one A4 sign on the way out.)

Breakfast really was my only disappointment. You pay an extra £6 per person per night if you want breakfast which is fine and reasonable but breakfast wasn’t consistent. I asked for poached eggs and bacon with white toast all three mornings we were there. The first morning I got two eggs cooked perfectly one slice of bacon and one slice of white toast. I was more than happy with that. The second morning after asking for exactly the same thing I got one egg that wasn’t cooked, two slices of bacon and brown toast. The final morning I got two eggs two bacon and I had to ask again for toast.

It’s clear coach trips get priority on breakfast time slots. We checked in got told our breakfast time slot was 9.15. Not even a query if that was good for us. When my partner went to ask if we could have a different time the very stern receptionist said in no uncertain terms we couldn’t change it. Not even a query of why it didn’t suit us. I understand why there’s time slots, but a query as to why that didn’t suit us would have been better customer service. A gent who worked there heard over heard the receptionist and asked why we needed an earlier breakfast. My partner explained due to Covid we’d prebooked all our activities and a late breakfast meant we would miss them. He advised if we came down at 7.45 before service usually started we could have breakfast in the lounge. Which was fine with us and the perfect compromise to our problem. If the receptionist had discussed this with us to start with a whole awkward exchange could have been avoided. It just put a bit of a negative impression on our stay as we’d only been in the hotel for all of 10 minutes. I didn’t see that receptionist again though so that’s a positive.

On the whole service is good but impersonal. I felt anyone could have walked into the hotel at any time as the receptionist barely looked up form her computer screen when we walked in and out.

All in all I’d stay again if I needed a cheap break but I probably wouldn’t pay the extra for the breakfast.

Started well with a spacious car park across the road, restaurant down the road and the building looked very smart from the outside but unfortunately thats where the best bits ended! Soon as we walked through the door we was met with an abrupt manger who insisted on wearing masks even though my girlfriend is except from wearing them.

The hotel receptionist wore a mask but couldn’t understand a word he said not sure if he was going in and out of English and his own native language.

The room was very tidy and clean but our phone was immediately ringing saying we’d had a noise complaint, not sure how it was possible as we was just lying on the bed watching tv, was very confusing.

We went to leave for a food at an Indian restaurant down the road which was very nice but on our arrival back at the hotel we thought we’d sit in the bar and have a drink before bed, the bar guy/ receptionist refused to let us buy a drink at 9.30 pm but left our table and immediately served to ladies who where sat across the room, again very confusing.

When we got back to our room about 10pm we had a another noise complaint again very confusing ( as you can tell at this point it was a very confusing experience) we had been in that room for 10/15 minutes tv wasn’t on and we had no music playing and after the first complaint we was tip toeing around the room.

In the morning we had breakfast which was decent plenty of options staff where nice but on checkout the abrupt manager started getting very aggressive! The guy is definitely in the wrong industry if he talks to customers this way.

Living in a busy house with 3 kids we hoped to get away for a nice weekend up in north wales but this was unfortunately tainted by our experience here!

Would never stay again! Wouldn’t recommend to anyone! And I’m sure this will not be on the old bad review they ever get either!

My room was beautiful, it looked like it had recently been refurbished, very cozy and warm, constant hot water, and furnished to a high standard. The staircase was a piece of art with oak bannisters, it felt like being in a stately home. The food was very good, with lots of choice, and generous portions. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and wearing smart uniforms. The overall cost of this break and drinks at the bar are very reasonable, with high quality. The hygiene standards for Covid were amazing, with sanitisers everywhere, and staff did a very good job to stay apart from us but still giving a good service. Well done to you all, I would definitely stay again.

Just returned from a short break in this hotel. Good food, at a very reasonable price, pleasant and helpful staff. Convenient for the sea front. We found it better to eat in the hotel than in the town. The room we had was practical, value for
Money and linen, towels, sheets etc were spotless.

20 years of staying in hotels, the dirtiest room I’ve ever seen. Unidentifiable sticky patches on the phone and bedside table, thick dirt and hair behind the bed, mould and gunge in the shower, grime in the tea cups and even evidence of ants. Quite disgusting.

When we complained, we were offered another room that still had a previous guest’s dirty towels hanging up in the bathroom, and was equally filthy behind the bed, so clearly not a one-off.

Not even close to an acceptable standard, let alone cleaned appropriately for the current environment.

A number of functional issues too. There are no plugs anywhere near the beds if you need to charge a phone, etc. No toiletries in the bathroom. The room was very light because the curtains didn’t close properly and there was a constant noise of running water from broken(?) guttering outside the window.

Absolutely awful, would never want to stay here ever again. The hotel was rid with a horrible smell, we stayed here for one night before we climbed snowden and we all struggled to sleep, the bedrooms were so dirty and one of our bathrooms we dare open the door because of the smell so we had to keep it locked. We were leaving at 7:30 the next day and asked reception about breakfast, it was a set time for different people ours was at 10 we asked to move it the lady rudely said no and we asked if she could provide a take out or snacks as we payed for breakfast in our stay and she refused and didn’t even give us a refund.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel last week on our first Alfa holiday. When we arrived we were very quickly given our room card, 220, on the second floor. There is a very good lift but only the people in your room can use the lift at one time. The room was very comfortable and we had a walk in shower in the bathroom. Our meals were taken in the Entertainment room to keep only the people on our coach together. The meals were excellent. Plenty of choice at breakfast and dinner. Masks must be worn in the hotel and nearly everyone wore them. We both enjoyed our first Alfa holiday and were very impressed by the hotel and the excursions.

Loved my stay in Criccieth at George IV hotel. Room overlooked gardens, sea mountains. Power shower brilliant. Unfortunately Only soap was given in rooms no shower gel or shampoo and conditioner. Meals table served good selections from menu. Location 5 minutes from stretch of sea and sand . Gift shops bakery and pub nearby to hotel. Travelling around was easy as a bus stop is right outside the hotel Entertainment every night was enjoyable. Restaurant staff polite. Emilia looked after us and was great. Lifts to all rooms. Our light switch fell loose from the wall but was attended to within 48 hours after we reported it. Reception staff helpful and friendly. Would return. Lovely place to stay.
