We had booked our stay for earlier in the year but, due to ‘Covid lockdowns’ asked to re-arrange our stay for early September. The hotel kindly agreed.
A day or so before our arrival, we received an email outlining the ‘Covid rules’ and this was appreciated.
We arrived late afternoon, obtained the pre-booked garage key (£1.75 per night) and moved the car to the rear of the hotel to unload. This proved to be a good plan as the spaces immediately in front of the hotel were at a premium.
On checking in, the efficient receptionist completed the paperwork and checked our temperatures. The Covid instructions were explained to us and were straightforward. With the luggage, we used the lift to get to our room number 33. We found had a side view of the beach and castle. The premium rooms, as to be expected, were at the front of the hotel with comprehensive views of the shoreline and castle. They also seemed to benefit from a couple of chairs so you could sit in the window and relax with the view. Our room was more than suitable for our needs. Tea and coffee, a large bathroom and a comfy bed. Hot water was always available. A laundry list was in the room but we didn’t use this facility. I don’t remember seeing a hairdryer but Susan always travels with her own anyway.
As expected, to comply with social distancing, we had to book a time slot for breakfast and evening meal (if taken in the hotel). The breakfast menu had lots of choices which was all cooked to order. This was served to you as, to comply with social distancing, were your selections from the buffet – juices, cereals, yoghurts, fruits.
That being said, a couple of guests didn’t/want to understand the Covid instructions and went to help themselves from the buffet. The waiting staff swiftly moved in to educate them – courteously of course.
After a day’s sightseeing, we were able to relax in the well maintained bar area both before and after dining in the Tonnau restaurant. In the bar, drinks were bought to you and, if you are a fan of flavoured gins, there are a lot for you to try with different Fevertree tonics (Perhaps the grapefruit flavour with Elderflower tonic)
Would also recommend having a look at the local photos in and around the hotel. Interesting photo canvas displayed of Criccieth in the snow
Overall, the hotel is well positioned offering a friendly, courteous and efficient service. We enjoyed our stay of 4 nights and will return when next in the area. Thanks very much.

We have just had a wonderful weekend here. The location meant we could takes walks on the beach as it’s within a stones throw from the hotel. Every member of staff made us feel welcome and could not do enough to ensure we had the very best stay. Although the were COVID measures in place (as per current guidelines at the time of writing) these were managed brilliantly. The first day we were there the weather was not so great and were served our pre ordered dinner in our room which overlooked the sea - it was excellent food presented beautifully, breakfast also the following morning was served in our room. When the weather improved we had dinner and breakfast in the outside area. Again, nothing was too much trouble for the staff that were on the ball with every little thing, (including Michael spotting Dolphins for us to watch after dinner). To me service is everything and here it was top notch. We can’t wait to go back again!

This has become our go to hotel when visiting Criccieth (this was our fourth visit). The current owners have made an excellent job of fully refurbishing this hotel to a very high standard. We usually stay in an Executive room to take advantage of the tremendous views across the bay. The staff are brilliant and are really keen to look after your every need. Great food, great choice of drinks and a great vibe at reasonable prices. We are planning to return in the autumn.

Myself and my husband booked a last minute weekend getaway in September. We stumbled across the Caerwylan and what a lovely little find it was!!
We booked a room with a sea view (I thought initially it was a little expensive at £144 per night), but the room was lovely and the view was something else looking over the sea and castle. If you are arriving by car, I would strongly recommend renting one of their garages at £1.75 per night as the road outside is very narrow. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We had a beautiful breakfast both days, you can have a continental, pancakes, full welsh breakfast etc. We also are in the restaurant one night, which was equally as delicious. They also have a bar there and it's so relaxing sitting there overlooking the sea which we took advantage of both nights. I was a bit apprehensive about going with covid, however once we got there any doubts I had quickly went, as the hotel is spotless clean throughout. We had a very relaxing break and definitely will be back, thank you

Excellent hotel for Snowdonia, Ffestiniog Railway or just a short, quiet break.
Brilliant breakfasts and evening meals. Quiet bar with huge gin menu and local beers.
Lovely staff who always make you feel welcome.
Set up for Covid distancing.
Lift to all floors but also at least six steps to all bedrooms.
Bedrooms are roomy and well laid out, there are garages behind the hotel for a nominal fee.

Arriving late at night literally 30 mins after booking, I was greeted warmly. The single room was plainly furnished but modern and well equipped with en suite, hairdryer, toiletries and tea/coffee making facilities.
The view was lovely, floodlit castle, hotel gardens and and beach, depending on where you looked.
The public rooms were very stylish and modern and the location is perfect.. quiet and overlooking the beach which is where I enjoyed a glass of wine listening to the waves lapping.
Breakfast was marvellous. Help yourself continental pastries, cereal, a number of juices and fruit salad. The hot breakfast had a number of options, both traditional and modern and was served quickly and well presented.
The staff were all welcoming, friendly and helpful. Altogether a wonderful experience!

Feeling in need of a ‘break’ away & to experience a bit of normality, my husband & I spent a 2 night mid-wk break at the Caerwylan last week & it was just what we needed. All of the staff were very welcoming & very cheerful (again just what we needed!). Covid rules were very well managed & apart from the obvious mask wearing about the place, it felt very safe & very much like a ‘normal Short break’.
The atmosphere was very relaxed & very restful. This hotel is in a superb position & from our large bedroom Window we had beautiful views over the bay & beach & to the right Criccieth castle perched on the hill. Our large bed was particularly comfy, there was constant hot water & large bathroom with very powerful shower. Our room was ‘spotless’ as was the rest of the hotel. Plenty of choice for breakfast it was very varied & all served to table as per the rules. We chose the full welsh which was an excellent choice. The evening meals were fab, delicious & well presented. The lamb rump was so tender & tasty, that we both chose it on both nights!. There are many little towns to visit within a short driving distance & Criccieth has many interesting quirky shops & cafes. We will definitely be back.

We recently spent a week at the Caerwylan having had enjoyable shorter stays there in the past. The hotel is in a superb location on the sea front with uninterrupted views across the bay.
Our spacious bedroom was at the front on the first floor and benefitted from the lovely sea views. It was very comfortably furnished and had a large modern en-suite bathroom.
We had breakfast and evening meal every day in the lovely spacious restaurant. The delicious meals were always well prepared and presented.
During these difficult covid times we felt totally relaxed and comfortable at the hotel and with the necessary provisions they had made.
All the staff at Caerwylan are friendly, efficient and helpful which adds to the charm of the place.
We look forward to returning in the future and enjoying again this wonderful hotel and this beautiful part of Wales.

We were happy to stay here as it’s central to the town and has good reviews. The room (17) was at the back of the hotel so had no view but in the very hot weather proved cooler. As we were out most of the day this didn’t matter.
I’d requested lightweight bedding and we were pleased to find just a sheet and blanket had been laid on the bed which was very comfortable. The room was clean with everything you needed.
We enjoyed our breakfast (especially the Eggs Benedict) and the service was great.
All the staff were very helpful and friendly.
The hotel has a lovely garden with sea views and plenty of tables and chairs.
The one thing to be aware of is the lack of car parking. We were lucky to get parked just at the end of the short road and later at a free car park but it can be tricky.
I’d recommend Caerwylan which has traditional values but also an attractive modern style.

Lovely short break as soon as Covid lockdown allowed!
Everything felt very secure and safe, the whole hotel from management down to housekeeping doing their best to make it unobtrusive and make me feel, comfortable. Shout out to Tracy, and the other reception staff, who were working particularly hard.
Food is excellent, as always, particularly the lush breakfast (delivered to the room due to Covid, is there anything more luxurious than breakfast in bed?) and dinner was perfectly washed down with a bottle of Purple Moose Beer from the bar.
One of my favourite hotels.
The best rooms are the premier rooms at the front of the hotel with he astonishing sea views.
Booked again for June.

Hotel is not suitable for children under 12. They do have a sister hotel in Porthmadog (The Royal Sportsman) which is family friendly though
This hotel is fab ,comfortable and welcoming and the food is outstanding.
Yes, there is an old fashion functional lift... but my advice would be to contact the hotel as you still need to climb stairs on the landings.
The rate for a standard double room is £99 and go up depending on the room. They have a very good websitewhich shows you all the rooms and tariffs they also have some very good deals month to month so is worth checking out. It is a lovely Hotel with friendly helpfull staff and I would highly recommend a stay there
