Absolutely beautiful place, lovely owners, grounds, food and service. Had the Jasmine Garden Room, ideal private access and direct access to the gardens and parking, small but adequate with fantastic shower room. Will be going back to use as a base.

A very warm welcome awaited us from hosts Gina and Gareth. The Afon Rhaiadr is a beautiful house set in wonderful gardens even at the end of winter beginning of spring seasons. Traditionally furnished with a few modern twists. We stayed in the Foxglove room which was spacious, comfortable and boasts a spa bath in the ensuite. Hospitality tray well stocked with extra supplies available as needed. Excellent choice of breakfasts, something for all tastes and very well presented. Poached eggs were spot on. Highly recommend and look forward to returning in the future.

From the minute you do your very easy online check-in to arriving at their front door was amazingly simple. We were greeted by Gareth the owner such a character full of excitement and enthusiasm about their business very welcoming & full of lots of useful information. The room in which we stayed was fantastic, Our names were even on the door ! The bed Was extremely comfortable and we were lucky enough to have a Jacuzzi bath absolutely fabulous. The house itself is set in a beautiful garden with plenty of areas to sit and watch the wildlife, Relax and let the world go by. Breakfast WOW ! First class quality & choices. served by the lovely Gina such a lovely happy Lady first thing in the morning. After spending the day exploring the area, we came back and enjoyed an amazing evening meal, All home cooked. Such a lovely find you won’t be disappointed. Well done Gareth and Gina What an amazing team.

We had a great time on our stay with Gareth and Gina, they made us feel like old friends. Warm and welcoming with a wealth of knowledge about the local area. The house itself stands in a beautiful location with lovely gardens. We have stolen Gareth’s novel method of garden border edging 😉

Our stay at Afon Rhaiadr was absolutely amazing! From the gorgeous food to the stunning scenery everywhere you go, it was just what we were looking for on a weekend away. The food was outstanding! We even had to get the salmon recipe from Gina as we loved it so much! Gareth and Gina are awesome hosts - always going above and beyond for their guests and are extremely friendly. We would highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning in the hopefully near future! Briony & Jeven x

I’m conflicted writing this review as I have read so many reviews that use words such as ‘amazing’ and ‘fantastic’, and whilst the people were indeed lovely, these aren’t words I would use. The positives of this house was the location, the decor of the rooms and as already mentioned the people running the place, plus the bird feeding station they have hanging outside was delightful. So many birds visited, including woodpeckers! The WiFi signal is terrible although this is to be expected based on where we were. The house and rooms is a lot smaller than it looks on the photos and they are having some building work done so it didn’t quite match the photos, and the garden looked a bit unkempt but this may have been the look they are going for, plus the time of year. We opted to have the candlelit dinner but we found it a bit awkward. You are in a dining room with other couples and I would not describe the atmosphere as romantic, plus the food was expensive. The chicken curry was nice and definitely homemade, as was the beef itself. But then the accompaniments such as the roast potatoes were out of a freezer bag. We also paid for the breakfast and on the first morning opted for the full Welsh breakfast but it was so small, so the second day we had omelettes which were better. However, for 12.95 per breakfast we didn’t feel this was good value when there is a cafe in Dolgellau that offered a much nicer and bigger breakfast for £8. The rooms were nicely decorated but quite small so we had to manoeuvre things around to make room for our bags etc. plus we didn’t really sleep very well due to the extremely soft pillows and the oversized and heavy quilt. The room was like a sauna as all the heating was on when we arrived which we soon turned off and opened the window. The shower was nice but tended to lose pressure intermittently, and the smoke alarm was really sensitive as I set it off drying my hair which was then embarrassing to be be pointed out to other guests that we had set it off. All in all, considering we used a £99 voucher to book this place, the general stay was nice, but if I were to go back I wouldn’t bother with the food and just go into Dolgellau and nearby places to eat instead.

Hi Toni, thank you for your review, and all the positives you mentioned. I would like to address some of your concerns.  We live in a rural setting which puts fire safety at a high priority. It is rare for our fire alarms to activate. It was not my intention to embarrass you and apologise profusely for any discomfort you may have felt.  We prioritise our guest experience and as such will always do our best to provide a quality service and a variety of options to cover personal preferences. If guests let us know if something is not to their liking we will do our best to provide an alternative option. We do price checks twice a year and have been told repeatedly by guests and industry professionals that our breakfast and dinner service is excellent value for money. Our high standards have ensured that we continue to maintain our 5* status. As well as the cooked breakfast our breakfast also includes tea or coffee, fruit, cereals, fruit juice, multiple rounds of toast, beautiful Welsh butter and a variety of jams/honey all in all excellent value. We are busy replacing a shed on the side of the house and fence due to storm damage, we try to keep the area as tidy as possible and aim to complete the work by May 2024.  We work with nature in our garden, we have some ornamental areas and some native wildflower areas which are some of our many efforts to encourage nature and wildlife into our garden and woodland spaces.   We are sorry that Afon Rhaidar was not for you and wish you all the best for your future endeavours.

Just returned from a fabulous 2 night break at Afon Rhaiadr. Gareth and Gina are so welcoming and so knowledgeable about the area and places to visit. The guesthouse and the gardens are beautiful. We stayed in the Rose room which isnt ensuite but we had sole use of a lovely bathroom and this wasnt a problem at all. We even had robes to use. Watching the birds on the birdfeeders from our window was an absolute joy. Lovely comfortable beds too. Food was very good. Lots of choice for breakfast and we also had dinner one evening. Couldn't fault our stay at all and would love to come back in the summer to enjoy an afternoon tea on one of the outside seating areas. Highly recommend. Jill and Andy x

Enjoyed our stay and would have no hesitation in staying there again. The owners Gina and Gareth are friendly and helpful, so you are quickly able to enjoy the facilities and excellent food. Lovely quiet location that is close enough to some outstanding areas of beauty by car. Loved their bird feeders and spotted a Great spotted Woodpecker amongst the many Blue/Great/Coal Tits
