Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had an amazing time in the luxury pods at Nantcol. The setting, facilities and welcome was second to none from start to finish. Attention to detail in the pods made them truly luxurious - would definitely recommend and will no doubt be returning for another fabulous break soon.

My wife, and our dog Walter have been here for a week, and we have had a great time. This is definitely one of the best campsites we have been to. It's really clean, and with all the modern conveniences. Most importantly its peaceful and quiet. On arrival, the lovely Elle (staff) informed us of the site's NO MUSIC policy. This is a process that all campsite's should do, so as to assure that this consideration is adhered to. The campsite is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside you could wish for, including rapid waterfalls and rock pools, all within a flourishing woodland and lush, wide open landscape. However, should you wish to venture off-site, there's various beach front towns to visit within a very reasonable distance from camp. We loved our stay, and we will definitely be back to Rhaedr Nantcol in the spring. Steve Claire and Walter 🐾 Xx

We chose this campsite because they advertise themselves as peaceful and loud music free. 2 sets of noisy neighbours playing loud music totally spoiled our experience. On the morning we left, we were woken at 6.15am by one woman who was sat, Phil collins-style in her car with the engine running, headlights on and music blaring! This continued for almost two hours until she decided to drive away. Lots of reviews state 'we were unlucky to have noisy neighbours " but in reality the campsite do absolutely nothing to protect the peace of the campsite and uphold their own rules. Staff are gone by 6pm and don't return til 9am the next morning. We didn't see a single "night watchman" as they say they have. The facilities were filthy- blood on one of the toilet seats remained there for the entire 4 days we stayed. We're going home more tired and stressed out than when we arrived and feel disappointed that we spent our holiday at this campsite. Nantcol camping: Please do better to stop idiots ruining it for everyone else, it happens far too often, as you can read from your reviews. We couldn't even talk to you about it because there are no staff onsite until later in the morning.

Response from aled jones, Owner at Nantcol Waterfalls
Responded 22 Jul 2023
So disappointed, in fact infuriated with this negative review. This person stays for 4 stressful days, complains that site owner or staff not there to tuck them up in bed. Staff are on site from 9am to 6pm every week day and 9am to 9pm every weekend and the summer 6 weeks with owner staying on site during busy periods. Mobile number, e mail address and landline given to every camper so if there is an issue owners can be contact 24hours a day, but this persons decides not to bother preferring to vent their anger through social media. Apparently we don't tackle rowdiness and get a big fat 1 star and in a previous review we do tackle rowdiness and get a big fat 1 star - Can't win really can we!! They mention disgusting facilities yet during that week we were complimented on numerous occasions for their cleanliness! They mention blood on the seat which remained for 4 days! But again decides not to mention it, sounds better in a review! During those four stressful days we had four different cleaners on duty cleaning the toilets a minimum 3 times a day and had approximately 120 campers on site, the cleaners certainly didn't see blood and not 1 camper mentioned it including Finarinay! In conclusion, if you have any issue with your stay, we are extremely approachable and will go out of our way to make your stay a pleasant one, all we ask, if you give us a chance, venting your anger on social media will not improve your holiday experience, sorting the problem on site probably will.

Lovely place to camp. Fire pits are allowed. Waterfalls are beautiful 😍. Dog loved it. Lots of walking to do or a drive to Barmouth not far. Harlech beach ⛱ is so beautiful and clean. Got to pay for WiFi. Can only use on one device.

Unfortunately we wasn't greeted with a warm welcome. The owners wife greeted us with "if I had known you were altogether I wouldn't be letting you on, here are the rules no laughing no music and dogs shouldn't bark". This instantly put us off but it was late, we had all been at work that day and travelled 2 and half hours to get there. We proceeded to set up but felt very uncomfortable to stay. Once we had set up we sat down altogether chatting with a drink with the feeling "and relax". Within 30 mins of sitting we was approached by a very hostile woman screaming at us that this was unexceptable!!! We questioned what? Her anger was caused by us having some music on in our tent very low!! Again she insisted that dogs shouldn't bark? we are 40 plus aged adults with very important jobs in our community but we were instantly judged as our faces clearly didnt fit. It saddens me that a owner of a campsite can be so disrespectful to campers who were there just to relax. She instantly took a dislike to us from the very start because we are a family of adults. She may think she's entitled but there's no excuse for rudeness she could of approached us in a friendly manner. We left 6am the following morning and was welcomed with open arms at another site. Their website states Family friendly...not Dog friendly....not Sit back and relax.....can't If you dont like noise, dogs or people don't own a campsite

Response from aled jones, Owner at Nantcol Waterfalls
Responded 1 Jul 2023
To be 'judged' usually follows unreasonable behaviour. We pride ourselves at Nantcol to provide a chilled out, friendly atmosphere to which every camper fully respects their fellow campers and the natural environment on site and to maintain this ambience we have a few common sense rules which are usually fully accepted and adhered to. All these rules are clearly stated on our website which can be viewed prior to making a booking. The main rules are Groups only permitted with prior knowledge, dogs on leads at all times and no music on site. When Katie and her friends arrived on site it was described by our staff as a 'tornado moment'! Usually all our guests approach either the Car Park or Lay-by prior to entering the site and then proceed to the Reception to collect tickets, Instructions and Rules and to pay any balances but on this occasion Katie's gang turned into the site and away they went! A member of staff chased after them and ask them to return to the Reception. They explained to us that they were all together, all 5 camper vans with 10 adults, all booked separately with no indication that they were together - a big No No! It clearly states under Booking Policy 9 'Any attempt to book for groups by creating multiple smaller online bookings will result in non admittance on arrival and the loss of your deposit' However, as they were of the older generation we gave them the benefit of the doubt and went out of our way to amend the hook up plan so that they could all be together as 2 pitches were electrical and 3 without. After a few hours and a few drinks we were approached by another camper stating that music could be heard clearly from their camp so I approached them at approximately 9.00pm (the first time I had spoken to them) just to correct Karen's artistic licence report stating that I welcomed them, that was another member of staff! I walked over and could clearly hear the music(not exceptionally loud) but could be a disturbance to other campers. I was told quite bluntly by the Gentleman that the dogs bark was louder than the music and 'you can go now', only to be encouraged by another gentleman who said 'you told her didn't you!' certainly the alcohol had kicked in by this time! Later on whilst inspecting the toilets a lady from the group approached me to state that she had been camping for years and didn't take much attention to rules! I was taken aback by their attitude towards me and for the first time felt quite vulnerable being a 50 something just the other side of 5' lady! Thankfully we came to an agreement that it would be better for all concerned that they leave in the morning and that we would gladly refund the second night just to get rid. By this time I had called my husband to issue the refunds. They all came over to the Reception to collect their balances but one gentleman kept finger-pointing, he hadn't finished with me and stated 'don't walk away from me when I'm talking to you' and the usual good old line'I'm going to write you a horrible review!' For the first time in 30 years I was shaken to the core, it was the scenario 'in numbers we have strength' even though to be fair it was only 3 of them that voiced their anger. My husband decided to stay on site that evening just in case but the drama was over, they all went quiet and true to their word packed up and were gone before 9! In conclusion, in order to ensure Nantcol Waterfalls remain a family friendly Campsite we shall insist on a few rules which from time to time will possibly infuriate a certain type of camper to the point of retaliation but so be it. If you don't do Rules then don't do Nantcol! Eleri Jones Owner actually not owners wife!

It was clean and friendly, camp area near to amenities and in a lovely part of wales. Wi-Fi is NOT free it cost £10 per device for 7 days my phone , my I pad and my wife’s phone cost £30 The free period is only for 10 minutes 😡 The stay was however really pleasant, the only other black mark was the charged shower cards only lasted 5 mins and of the 9 we had only 4 worked. Surely it could just be costed in the price when I mentioned this the young lady at the kiosk gave me a doubtful look and insisted that this system would stay . Richard

A huge thank you to Eleri and Elliw for such a warm and friendly welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and as a family run business this site has the most amazing ethos. I love their chilled approach to site management compared with other sites and I totally agree and appreciaite the only 2 rules being, dogs on leads and no loud music. My rescue dog hates other dogs running at her and with such beautiful surroundings why would you want to drown out the sound of the river and birds with music? Their approach is spot on and it's a breath of fresh air not having plastic notices stuck everywhere like other sites. Facilities are spotless and very modern and I especially like the fact they take the trouble to have lots of recycling bins to sort waste which must come at quite an expense. Despite this and the immaculate facilities the cost is super affordable, especially if you don't need electric. I like the fact that you can choose to buy a card for the shower, which at 50p for 5 mins is darn cheap anyway, as this keeps the overall cost per night down to just £10 should you want to do nothing more than park up for the night and enjoy the tranquility. Although phone reception is hit and miss, there is WiFi available to purchase. If on EE you can get 4g by the first waterfall and phone signal by the top waterfall. There's a gorgeous trail down to Llanbedr village and the Vic is well worth a visit for a passion fruit gin :) Our small group of campervan ladies thoroughly enjoyed our stay in stunning surroundings dipping in the waterfall and we will be back in September for more of the same. Quote of the week from more than one lady was "this is the best campsite ever".
