Nestled in the wooded Wye Valley, Monmouth is a quaint Welsh market town near the Brecon Beacons that's inspired by many artists and poets thanks to its glorious greenery. From our Monmouth hotel, put on your walking boots and hike up Kymin Hill to admire the spectacular views, or explore the town's rich history, from its Georgian townhouses to the medieval Gatehouse Bridge. Go whitewater rafting on the Wye, catch a flick at the original 1920s arthouse cinema, canoe past the Forest of Dean or simply bask in the calm and tranquility - the choice is yours. - Once you've enjoyed all that fresh country air, head back for a well-deserved dinner at our in-house Thyme restaurant. Afterwards, it's time to relax in your modern, stylish bedroom, curl up in front of your 40" flatscreen TV and enjoy a great night's sleep in your luxury bed.

We stayed here in August 2020 for a couple of nights.

Breakfast was a reduced menu option which included a choice of cereal, full English breakfast (brought to your table) plus croissants and pain au chocolat. The juice and coffee were self service. The coffee machine was on the blink so you ended up with half a mug of coffee. There are plenty of places to eat in the nearby town in the evenings.

We found the staff to be polite, really friendly and helpful. Considering the difficulties they are dealing with at this time (Covid) we did not feel that our stay was compromised at all.

The temperature was 30 degrees when we stayed and the rooms had air conditioning which was great, however,, as the windows do not open the air becomes dry and as I am slightly asthmatic I found I was struggling to breath after the second day.

I understand why the windows are sealed shut but please be aware of this if you are staying in extreme heat and suffer with any respiratory related illness.

The free internet is totally useless, if you want to use the internet you will have to pay for the premium option (I think this was £5.00 a day)

For a budget hotel, the rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff were great.

Monmouth town itself was a little sad to see, shops and bars have closed; there was a lot of roadworks going on during our stay which did not add to the ambience.

I was a little worried about visiting after lockdown but was reassured by the cleanliness and procedures in place. Becky worked incredibly hard greeting guests, cleaning and training other staff. Wales has just reopened for visitors so it was operating under new procedures, sanitising hands, one way system, social distancing of tables and rooms and individual cutlery etc we felt very safe. We had a comfortable bed and asked for extra pillows which was no problem.

The Premier Inn is ideally placed 10 mins walk uphill to the town which has plenty of shops cafes etc and In a great location to explore the beautiful countryside.

We had a nice meal at Piccolo Italian and a cream tea at Salt & Pepper as well as tasty fish and chips at Aslan.

We climbed Sugarloaf mountain which was beautiful and had a lovely walk at Symonds Yat.

We would definitely like to return to this friendly hotel.

We were apprehensive about staying anywhere given the circumstances. However, we were welcomed by a beaming smile (safely behind a plastic screen) and a warm welcome. We were on the top floor and our room was clean and cosy. Our room only had two pillows but we were able to call to reception and a lovely chap bought more up for us. There was a one way system in reception which was clear and easy and the hotel was spotless (including the lift and stairwells). I felt safe the entire time and staff were on hand if we needed them. We bought food back to our room as it was raining and we couldn’t have a meal indoors anywhere (as pubs in wales weren’t open fully yet). We were kindly given an extra bin bag so the food wouldn’t make our room smell, which was appreciated.

There was no housekeeping mid-stay although this wasn’t a problem for us. All in all, a wonderful stay and we will definitely return.

Excellent location just a 5-10 minute walk into Monmouth and the Shell garage next door has a well stocked Budgens!
The staff are all lovely.
WiFi was very patchy and I even got a free upgrade but even that wasn’t great.
My main gripe is that the room wasn’t cleaned after our first night, so teabags etc weren’t refreshed but I had brought teabags anyway, and I’m sure I could have got more if I’d asked at reception.
The restaurant was only open for breakfast due to COVID but we knew that before we arrived so we planned accordingly!

I am fussy about cleanliness and this hotel got a wow from me. The bathroom looked brand new and they stated that the shower curtain is replaced after every visitor. Other than a couple of scuff marks on the wall, and the net curtains needing an iron, room 14 was a treat.

I came on a 5 day trip to focus on daily running activities with my son and 5 other teenage athletes.
The hotel was as you'd expect from a Premier Inn: clean, very comfortable beds and reasonably priced food and drink, with friendly and helpful staff. Free wifi sometimes struggled with video streaming, but was mostly fine even with that. It was also only a short walk into the town, with a wide variety of restaurants (we recommend Mexican restaurant Mokos especially, with La Piccola a close second ), a theatre/cinema and various basic and touristy shops.
Monmouth is a great location for hilly or flat valley walks/runs and we enjoyed good outings every day to satisfy our running needs.

Similar to what several other reviews have mentioned, we could not sleep because the rooms were too hot.

We booked this for a mis summer break. And everything was fine, except for the most important element in any hotel stay; the ability to sleep!

The hotel is advertised as having air conditioning in all rooms. So given that it was July, this is why we chose this hotel.

But we quickly realised that this is a lie. The so-called air conditioning thermostat control on the wall didn't allow you to set the temperature any lower than 19 degrees. This was strange given that Premier Inn advertisements and brand image is all about getting a guaranteed godd night's sleep.

Sleep experts recommend that for sleeping, the optimum room temperature should be 17 degrees. May be Premier Inn management haven't read this research.

To make matters worse, they supply you with the same thick heavy 12 TOG quilt you would tend to find at a hotel in an Austrian ski resort in January.

By the second night we ended up having to take the quilt out of its cover, and slept just under the cover!

Come on Whitbread, sort you air conditioning out!

This hotel had really friendly staff and the room was spotless. Lots of safety precautions for C19, and the restaurant was serving takeaway food for dinner which was helpful. Breakfast was lovely, served in he restaurant, everything bought to the table, with screens between tables.

Unfortunately our stay was let down by noisy children tuning up and down the corridor at 9pm. This woke my own children up.

Furthermore, it has been warm day, and the night was humid, but the air conditioning doesn’t go below 19 degrees! As the windows are sealed, this meant for a very restless night and I just couldn’t sleep.

Such a shame, as the staff worked so hard at this venue and were lovely.

A staff member at breakfast was very apologetic and offered to ‘blast’ our room with cool air, but this was obviously too late to help us sleep! We could do with having this option in the night!

I used the Monmouth Premier Inn on a recent biking trip. Being able to store my bike in my room was a major benefit, meaning it was secure and I had easy access to all my kit. The room was clean comfortable and the bed was excellent. I had a great night's sleep in a quiet air conditioned room. The next morning, 6 of us had an early breakfast in the on-sight restaurant. We all ordered huge breakfasts and the waitress dealt with our various requests brilliantly, which meant we got away on time. I frequently use Premier Inn for biking trips. It does what it says on the tin - great value for money.

It’s very family oriented and there is no bar as such rather a refreshment section holding teas coffee cool drinks and alcohol in a locked refrigerator. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel as a suitable venue as per your enquiry

There were loads of 'folks clearly on their way to BPW' vans and cars in the car park when we stayed, and no bikes out on display/on racks etc. I don't think there'd be any issue with taking *clean* bikes into the rooms overnight. I'd speak to the staff - they're all really friendly and helpful there.
