A 18th century 3rd generation family run mountain inn nestled in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park with a history for British mountaineering with memorabilia from the 1953 Everest expedition in the bar along with many Famous signatures. We have en suite and traditional rooms, there is a sauna and natural pool in our extensive gardens with Snowdon and many other fantastic walks right on our doorstep.

If it's mod cons and flashy rooms you're after, this is not your place. Wifi is only available in odd places, and the beds are a bit ricketty. But if you want to go back in time to a more civilised era, then you'll love it. A gong invites you to excellent meals, with coffee served in the lounge where guests chat and play games. No en suites, but a plethora of hot water options after a long day hiking, with a couple of truly amazing Victorian surprises. Friendly and helpful staff who make you feel like family. Fabulously placed to explore Snowdonia, it describes itself as 'the home of British mountaineering', famously used as a base by Hilary and Tenzing. We fell in love with the place.

We sorely missed our trips to the PYG during Covid, so it was fantastic to find the welcome as warm as ever. We've have been coming for over 30 years to this perfect spot for hill walking and are delighted that our children now follow in our footsteps. Nothing was too much trouble for Nick and Rupert Pullee and their helpful staff, many of whom have been there for years; a mark of well run hotel and good team leadership. Our ensuite (in the main hotel building) had very comfortable, roomy beds with lovely traditional cotton sheets, and huge fluffy towels, very comforting after the hot soak necessary after a tough climb. The food is made with love, specialising in locally sourced, excellent quality ingredients and traditional puddings. Gluten free options were provided willingly. Nick's soups are particularly delicious and adventurous. An award winning chef now cooks on some evenings and his duo of monkfish and local trout on a bed of baby leeks in a lemon and dill sauce, was super fresh, flavoursome and in the top 5 fish dishes I have eaten anywhere in the world. Good, reasonably priced wine list; the Tanner's Claret is a particular favourite. The packed lunches are generous and varied so we took them each day. Our favourite days on the hill end at sunset with an envigorating dip in the stunning natural pool in the garden, overlooking the hills. So bring your swimming gear and towels. Thank you so much for making it yet another wonderful holiday. Cannot wait to return.

If you crave a hotel room with TV /satellite channels, expensive toiletries, excellent wi-fi and mobile coverage - look elsewhere as the PyG is not for you. If however you want to experience a truly bygone age steeped in the historic first conquest of Everest then this hotel will not disappoint. It is rustic, enchanting, the most welcoming and so full of character you want to spend hours drifting from room to room. The loyal staff obviously take personal pride in the hotel and took delight in offering us a conducted tour late at night when they had already had a busy day. The breakfast is a delight and the evening meal worthy of a Michelin star, yes its that good!! The hotel is most fortunate the chef has returned to his Welsh roots (da iawn ti). We were so mesmerised by the place we intend visiting during the winter when the fires are lit and perhaps a sprinkle of snow will complete a magical experience. Long may the PyG remain an idyllic third generation family run establishment without frills but with so much atmosphere and genuine Welsh hospitality.

This is one of the most unique hotels we have stayed in. It is very traditional and slightly cut-off from the modern world but exceptional. The facilities are in keeping with the Victorian feel of the hotel; I have only seen some of the baths in National Trust properties before. The gong for meals made us smile and the food was exceptional. We prefer a limited choice and to know what we get is beautifully cooked and sourced locally. The lamb and fish were as good as any Michelin restaurant we have eaten in. The whole experience was made by the staff who were really considerate, helpful and friendly. They made everything so easy and were always keen to check we were happy and content. This hotel will not suit everyone but if you want to get back to a simple existence with fabulous food in a stunning setting, I could not recommend it highly enough. Another plus, you beat the traffic for Snowdon as you can walk to the start.

You'll be well looked after. Friendly, caring staff and fantastic food. The rooms are not ultra-modern but the facilities are more than adequate. After getting soaked on the hills everything was made better by the superb drying room, hot shower, filling dinner and comfortable bed. The lounge and bar are ideal for having a (decently kept) beer and comparing notes with other guests over coffee served from proper coffee pots. The building is old and stuffed with mementos from the past, which all add to the comfortable atmosphere. The third-generation owners know their stuff and have a clear idea of the type of hotel they want to run. Don't stay here if you want the faceless hotel chain experience. This is an ideal base for walking in Snowdonia - loads of walks from the front door including a 20 minute walk on the new path to Pen y Pass without the worry or expense of finding a parking space.

I really do not think that I will have enough space here to list all of the things that I loved about my stay at this truly unique hotel. The location for starters, so close to so many walks of all levels, Betws Y Coed and Bethgelert, the breathtaking scenery, the warm welcome from staff, the level of service, the quirkiness of the hotel, the authenticity of it, atmospheric, the very unique bathrooms, small snugs, the open fires, and most importantly for me, the creation of the most delicious vegan meals. The staff could simply not do enough for us to make us feel so welcomed. I will return for sure. Highly recommended.

We stayed here as a group of 15; a base for a Snowdon climb with the intention of eating out for 2 out of 3 nights. The service, accommodating staff and superb quality of the food led to us eating all 3 nights in the hotel. Amazing duck, a sumptuous roast and the best cheesecake I’ve ever eaten(3 nights on the trot!). Rooms are warm and comfortable, bathrooms are quirky (we christened one Nemo’s bathroom) due to it having a Victorian look and submarine feel with a very powerful and energising shower. The “cowboy” bath revitalises and allows you to chill after walking. 15 Middle Aged men enjoyed Eurovision in the games room while playing ping pong, pool and didn’t even get to the darts. Oh and take the plunge and brave the pool/pond if you dare. We did and loved it. A fantastic stay at a brilliant place in beautiful Snowdonia. Thank you staff and chef for looking after us.

Great hotel during a emergency siutation. Did there best to support the teenagers who where campaigning around the mountains. Having full occupancy did manage us the allocate us late check in and support us every time. Did there best to help us to use the land for tent around the hotel premises and offer Hot beverage along with snacks to support during the cold rainy weather.
definitely will recommend my all friends and family members to stay in the hotel as the friendly staff makes you feel welcoming and support your needs.

WOW , Just returned having spent a night here and have to say what a wonderful amazing unique experience. Lost in time and retaining ALL its early period charms, like something from a period drama set . No phones , no TVs, no WiFi , no signal gives you a well much needed break from modern life . We were first welcomed by a young man who was more than happy to show us round and point out things of interest ( of which there are hundreds) pleasant, kind and helpful, we knew we were in for a treat just from the amazing welcome this young man gave us . We sat in the reading room , complete with roaring fire and had drinks brought to us from the bar . Our bedroom was the warmest I’ve ever stayed in and the bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast too was served by an extremely friendly lady who was only too happy to point out thing of interest, the food itself was well presented and quality too and more tea was added without having to ask . I could go on and on , loved it can’t wait to go again . Well done to the owners for not going down the boring standard bland hotel format route, my expectations were high but you blew them out of the park . Thank you all so much . Incredible

I've been coming to this hotel for most of my life. First with my Dad on short walking holidays and then with my wife for romantic getaways in the mountains, including a minimoon straight after our wedding where the beautiful remote location was particularly welcome! And now for the first time as a family with our little daughter.
You're guaranteed a warm welcome at the Pen Y Gwryd and I strongly recommend it. The location is perfect for walking in the surrounding mountains and there are visitor attractions towards Anglesey and Llandudno to the north and Porthmadog and Barmouth to the south.
The character of the hotel is very much from the 1950s with original features throughout. Dinner and breakfast are at set times and signalled by a gong. There are generous portions of well-cooked traditional food. The hotel's historic nature coupled with excellent customer service by modern (and indeed any) standard makes it unique!

Hi one of the Sherpa buses stopped opposite the hotel when we were there. Not sure if it was this route number (if there are different route numbers). Hope this helps.

Oh Yes. Nice enough people but no business sense. Turning away business and running it for their convenience.
Trying to get the bill paid in the morning was a joke. No one knew how to do it as the owner wasn't due in until 9 and we needed to leave st 8.
Am sure it's a lovely place for Octogenarians reminiscing about their boarding school days but frankly the Youth Hostel by the Pyg route was more comfortable , half the price and much better service.
