Stayed here for two nights while walking the Anglesey Coastal Path. (The hotel is located on the path and by using the regular bus service it is easy to cover the eastern extremity of the island). The accommodation was clean, cosy and comfortable. The decoration is traditional but tasteful and in very good condition adding to the overall ambiance. We had lovely meals in the restaurant and good breakfasts. Highly recommended.

Bishopsgate is a late 18th century hotel situated on the main street in Beaumaris, near to the sea, shops and the castle. It has been sensitively decorated to a high standard. Hazel and her colleagues are extremely welcoming - nothing is too much trouble. The bedrooms and public rooms are cosy and the food in the restaurant is mostly locally sourced, cooked to order and is absolutely delicious (at a very reasonable price). It's no surprise that Bishopsgate has won several food and hotel awards. We look forward to a return visit.

The hotel looked fine from the Main Street but around the back the car park was very small and hard to get in and out of. The reception area was untidy and cluttered . The bedroom we had was clean but like something out of the 70s with very old furniture with drab wallpaper and carpets in desperate need of redecoration. The breakfast service was slow but the food was ok. Would I stay again NO.

Response from Hazel Johnson-Ollier, Owner at Bishopsgate House Hotel & Restaurant
Responded 21 Sept 2023
Dear Coraddo Firstly, I would like to say we are very sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us. My first thought was, we must be doing something terribly wrong, so I scrolled back over hundreds of reviews and the last time we received anything less than a four or five star was exactly 3 years ago. Thank goodness, our little Hotel appeals to many people, and I guess this is a question of we can’t please all the people all the time. The old-fashioned look has not been achieved by accident. It is a 1755 house, and most people appreciate the panelling and Chinese Chippendale staircase that are featured in the Welsh book of antiquities. It is totally acceptable that our style is not to your liking, however, I was very shocked to read that you gave the location a poor score too. I think there are very few people that dislike Beaumaris. We are right in the centre of beautiful Castle town. With regard to your comment about slow breakfast service. Everything is cooked fresh to order, unlike most hotels that offer a buffet service where food is at the ready to be plated in an instant. Finally, it didn’t go unnoticed that you have written many scathing reviews about other places. It seems if you like a place you’re very kind with your words, but if one thing is not to your liking you really go for the jugular.

What a lovely hotel! We visited Beaumaris for two nights in order to meet up with family elsewhere on the island. This small hotel is well situated on the Main Street, with a small car park, for residents, at the rear. The hotel has a very traditional feel, with a friendly, non intrusive atmosphere. Our room came well up to expectations. Traditionally furnished with a four poster bed, the room was well laid out and scrupulously clean. The usual tea and coffee making facilities were complimented with a decanter of sherry! The en suite bathroom was well appointed and spacious. The small restaurant was very traditional and created an intimate space for dining. Breakfast was cooked to order and served by good humoured staff. Nothing too much trouble. We had dinner on both nights of our stay. Local produce cooked by a talented chef. Well presented and delicious. I enjoyed the hake dish so much on the first night, I decided to repeat the experience on the second evening! Superb food. This privately owned hotel is a hidden gem on Anglesey. We had a delightful stay and subsequently booked for two more nights for my birthday in November. Recommend…

What a splendid little hotel. Spent 2 nights in a charming and spotlessly clean room. The warm welcome continued throughout our stay from all the staff. Highly recommend the restaurant. Breakfast and dinner delicious. Would definitely stay again when in Anglesey.

Very welcoming hosts. our room was charming, with a very comfortable bed. We had dinner soon after our arrival, and the food was delicious. Breakfast had many choices and was plentiful and delicious too. We will definitely stay at The Bishopsgate on our next trip to Anglesey.

The carpark was behind the hotel which was hard to find to begin with, but very useful. Staff in reception was very helpful and kind at all times. Breakfast was nice and typical British. The room was large and had a nice view to the sea. The mattress was a bit hard though. Bathroom was ok with a new shower on the wall with heater. Cozy bar by the streets of Beaumaris which allow dogs.

Stayed overnight at this beautiful hotel meeting family there. Our stay was delightful, staff and owner Hazel attended to our every needfar beyond expectations. More family joined us for and evening meal in the restaurant which didn’t disappoint. Food and service equally spot on. Beautiful location, lots to see and do. All made for the perfect stay.
