Situated in the historical village of Menai Bridge, the home of Bangor Universities Ocean Sciences and a growing Mecca for foodies in North Wales. 20 minutes drive from Holyhead ferry port and 30 seconds from the Menai Strait. This hotel is part of the pub that has stood here as a public house since the 1850's, at least. The Auckland has sailed through rough seas of late, adrift for months with not a soul, taken and abused by pirates and vagabonds for almost a year..Until she made her way back to her old Captain, found upon Mexican shores. Rum soaked and telling tales of Tequila and Mermaids he's back, our old Cap'n Adie. Armed with even more craft spirits and a knowledge of old time drinkery..Most of the old crew have returned and the decks have been scrubbed, with the old standard at the ready we set sail for new adventures in our old beautiful tub, passengers are once again welcome simply mail to book passage or board in person every day, sailing from 4:30pm weekdays 3pm weekends x

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Excellent landlord who told me a thing or two about whisky. Had Mws Piws beer on tap and other local beers. Musicians in the garden spontaneously playing. Friendly crowd and great atmosphere. Absolutely brilliant place to visit.

We stayed here for one night in this lovely village. Great pub with fabulous quirky beer garden. The most amazing cocktails. Lovely landlord with great tips on local tourist routes. Hope to return - thank you Adie

We did not stay here but just popped in for an hour or so while waiting for a table in nearby restaurant Dylan's. A small and friendly local pub with a landlord who has a passion for spirits - 60 different gins, 50 different rums and a similar number of different whiskies. He does the normal range of beers, cider, lagers etc... you would expect to find in any pub. If this was a bar in London, the owner would make a fortune given the novelty of his offer. Tucked away on Anglesey, it is a hidden gem.

Both of our double rooms were on the ground floor and straight on to the street.
We arrived at 5pm to find a band setting up in a dingy old back room and the noise that ensued was dreadful. We left and went to a party for 7.30pm and returned at 1am to find that the Landlord was having a 'Lock In' and the noise that went on until 4am with drunks spilling out onto the pavement was unbelievable.

The only people who should venture in to this establishment are the dossers that take part in the drunken debauchery.

Our Rooms were basic but large. The double bed was tiny and needed a new mattress as the springs protruded into our backs. The toilet didn't flush very well and the shower was a disaster but the breakfast was good and the landlord polite. - He is obviously trying to make money to survive in anyway he can but he needs to decide whether he is running a pub or a hotel.

Stayed here with the family and dog for the bank holiday weekend in room 3, the room was clean and as expected. The staff were always helpful and friendly. The Auckland is located in the beautiful village of Menai just under the bride and a great place as a base to go off and visit the beaches etc on Anglesey.
We would stay here again.

The Auckland has two sets of rooms - some ensuite room, and a set of bunks with a shared bathroom.
Can't comment on the ensuite rooms as I didn't stay in them.

The bunks were a terrific place to stay though, for someone who is just looking for a place to lay their head for a night. Quite small, maybe could do with a lick of paint - but for £15, who's complaining?

Free Wi-fi, comfy bed, tea and coffee in the room, tv/dvd player in room, warm, and a good power-shower in bathroom.

The Auckland Arms pub itself is friendly and welcoming with a well stocked bar, and a particularly wide range of spirits. Landlord Adrian also puts the art into cocktail making.

Stay here for a good night's sleep without busting your wallet.

I work at the University of Bangor but am based in Aberystwyth. When I do go up to Menai for work, I stay here. There's a good mix of people in the bar most nights, especially on a Friday. The beer is great, the rooms are good and the atmosphere is very nice. Ignore the bad reviews from years ago, it was a different owner!

I stayed for two nights in August with a dive club. The new management worked really hard to ensure we had a comfortable and pleasant stay.

They were very welcoming, helpful and considerate - including making sure the lively bar was no trouble at all for divers getting up early.

The rooms are comfortable and quiet. The large cooked breakfast was good - including for vegetarians. I also liked the range of interesting spirits behind the bar.

A big thumbs up!

We stayed here for a weekend and had a great time - the B&B is slightly removed from the pub so there was no noise at all. The room was large, very clean and warm and we were made to feel very welcome both by Adrian and the lovely bar staff. It was great to be able to just pop next door for a pint in the cosy, hostorical Auckland Arms right in the centre of Menai Bridge which by the way is a great place to base yourself on Anglesey because there are several fantastic restaurants to chose from and it's a bit more lively than other villages on the island. And all that at a prize which you won't find anywhere else on Anglesey! And if that wasn't enough, the breakfast was outstanding, too.

Booked in for a three night weekend stay during a racing weekend at Anglesey Circuit.

Value for money is unbeatable for Menai. Adrian is a really nice chap and entertaining host. I understand that he has recently returned as landlord and that the hotel has been 'turned around'.

Room that we got on the front was large and clean, with a big en-suite bathroom. Bed was comfortable and there was tea / coffee making facilities.

I think the bar is now frequented by a quieter clietele. Drinks are very reasonably priced.

The hotel is admittedly old and worn in places, so don't expect to find contempory. But do expect a great host, clean room and excellent value for money.

Fully deserving of its rating.
