Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Well, due to wales just opening up to guests to travel within the Welsh boarders we took the opportunity to come up from South Wales to visit family after being away for over a year.
The Holt Lodge popped up as a very reasonably priced place to stay and after a discussion with a staff member a very good room only deal was agreed for a family room.
Although no meals could be served due to some of the Covid limitations this didn’t hinder us too much, and the fact that the bar was opened for us to consume a much missed draft pint (or two) more than made up for it (obviously taking the drinks away from the bar).

The room was a little tired but still clean and comfortable and the staff were more than helpful and friendly- I actually think that we might have been the only people staying in the entire hotel at the time?? (So no other guest noise at all).

Covid rules were fully explained and the one way system easily to follow. Checkin and checkout were a breeze and parking was absolutely not a problem 🙂

All round pleasant experience for a very reasonable price. 👍🏻

Went to Hold Lodge for an evening meal on the last day of the "Eat out to help out" initiative. Meal pleasant though unexciting. Soup was very good though. Staff/service excellent, really nice and helpful. When the wine we ordered was not available, we chose another (slightly more expensive) and were immediately offered it at same price. When a member of staff gave us incorrect information about ingredients, she returned quickly with an apology and the correct information.

Love this place so much, both classy and comfy and the staff are amazing, they really make you feel welcome and engage in conversation if you want it. Having had our wedding reception here in Dec we have become regulars as we are made to feel so welcome. The food is outstanding and great value for money. We are so happy with the Holt we have booked another party for Apr.

We stayed for one night on 24 July 2021 whilst visiting family in the area. We had room 116 on the ground floor.
Firstly, the shower dripped constantly so we had to place towels in the bath to deaden the sound during the night. The bathroom was dirty with black mold (see pics) and didn’t look as though it had been properly cleaned or maintained for months (or even years)! The rest of the room was shabby and had years of ground in grime. The chair in the corner was very dirty and unhygienic as was the carpet. It had been 30 degrees outside during the day so the room was hot and stuffy. Unfortunately because of a fixed bracket on the window we couldn’t get it to open more than 2cm and there was no air conditioning so the room was very hot and had a stale musty smell. There is no sound proofing between the ground floor rooms and those above. We were kept awake by the people above stomping around until about 2.30am when it was replaced by their loud snoring!!!
Our room was £99 excluding breakfast. We left as early as we could the next morning and didn’t look back!! We visit the area regularly and usually stay at Premier Inn, Travel Lodge or Holiday Inn, which all have much better standards and represent better value for money.
It’s a shame because the location of Holt Lodge is ideal and it has a lot of potential but at the moment it is not a healthy or hygienic environment to stay in.

Arrived at 7pm after a long drive, told no food kitchen was closed so we had to go out for dinner, Arrived back at 9 pm and told the bar was shut and at a push the receptionist gave us a drink to bring to the room. So I highly recommend if you don’t eat after lunch and go to bed at 9pm. Also if you don’t pay for breakfast in advance they charge an extra 5 pounds in the morning. It was very clean and could be nice I would describe it as Faulty Towers

First room I was allocated had no bedding in it so requested another room. Went to the second room where I found there was no hot water for the bath and the remote for the tv didn’t work. Spoke to reception who came up and ran the tap and just dismissed the issue saying that I could have a shower instead. I explained that one of the reasons I specifically booked this hotel was because I was looking forward to having a soak in a bath after a very long stressful day. Found reception very argumentative and dismissive of the situation. Would never recommend or use again.

Great Sunday Carvery in the restaurant.

Choice of 3 meats, then add Yorkshire, Stuffing, Pig in blanket, 2 types potato, 5 types of veg.

And gravy!

Good friendly service from a young and enthusiastic team.

The dining room was very pleasant well lit, tables not crowded against each other. A good atmosphere.

Booked into the hotel for a 3 night break. The staff were very good and helpful. Room was 116 on the ground floor and was kept in good order but a few signs of wear which is acceptable given the closure due to covid lockdown.
Breakfast was as good as you will get anywhere.
Parking is right outside so no distance to the entrance.
Dining room was pristine condition as were the grounds.
The hotel is not very sound proof due to its age and some noise from above due to wooden flooring rather than a more modern hotel with concrete floors.
All in all, it is a good hotel bearing in mind it is also quite low cost.
Yes, i would stay here again if wanting a short break in this area.

We held a 90th Birthday party at this lovely hotel in January 2024. The staff were superb. The hotel manager, Marc, was extremely friendly and approachable. He explained the various options available to us. Nothing was too much trouble. We selected the spacious Garden Room for our function and were assisted on the day by the very experienced and helpful Kirsty. The dining tables were beautifully presented with our choice of floral centre pieces and staff assisted us with decorations for the room. We had a table for gifts and a birthday cake, all draped in quality linen. Our choice of a carvery was an excellent idea and was prepared and served by cheerful professional staff. The food was delicious and enjoyed by everyone. Again, nothing was too much trouble. The private bar within the suite was manned by lovely friendly staff who provided an excellent service all day long.
Our 90 year old mother had such a wonderful time in this beautiful venue and we can thoroughly recommend it to anyone.
Some of us stayed a few nights at the hotel for bed and breakfast. The rooms were spacious and comfortable with plenty of tea and coffee making facilities. Water in the bathroom was hot and plentiful. The cooked breakfast in the morning was excellent quality and we enjoyed eating in the spacious and delightful dining room with views across the private lawns.
Marc heads an extremely friendly and professional team of staff who appear to have great rapport with clients and each other. We thank them ALL for our memories of the day.

Stayed here for my birthday as we went to carden Spa and this is uper convenient and much more reasonably priced. The breakfast was included and exceeded all expectations. I'm vegan and they had vegan sausage and even vegan black pudding and milk alternatives etc. It was so delicious and the service from all staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Would certainly recommend. Room was clean and spacious with all amenities needed. Thank you
