The Falcondale hotel and 2AA rosette restaurant near the University town of Lampeter is only 30 minutes from the coastal villages of Cardigan Bay and hilly, marshy regions of the Cambrian Mountains. A wealth of walking, cycling, fishing, and open gardens within easy reach of this central location in Wales. Why not visit the local National Trust before sinking into a warm, comfy sofa in the lounge with a glass, or two, of wine.

This lovely hotel was booked for me and my partner as a birthday surprise. We stayed Friday and Saturday night and had the most fantastic time. On arrival, our temperatures were checked and hands sanitized, they provided a tube of hand sanitizer and complimentary face masks in the room, and all staff wore face masks at all times. The level of reassurance was brilliant with regards to Covid. The hotel is in an absolutely stunning location, and is a beautiful building itself. The staff are incredibly friendly and so very helpful, whilst maintaining a high level of professionalism at all times. The food is gorgeous - both breakfast and dinner (highly recommend the Friday Steak & Wine night!- very reasonable prices for top class food). The room is fully equipped with robes, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and lots of fluffy towels, as well as the usual coffee and tea station with a jar full of shortbread biscuits. We have just left this place and look forward to visiting again in the future - cannot sing its praises high enough! Thank you to everyone at the Falcondale for a wonderful experience!

We booked a 2 night break as lockdown restrictions had eased and had a lovely time. The staff were very pleasant from check in through to check out. Breakfast was a delight with a really good choice. There were two menus at evening dining. On the first evening we chose from the set menu which changed daily offering a small selection of dishes for each course. On the second evening we ate from the less formal menu which offered a bigger selection of dishes such as salads, burgers and fish and chips. The food throughout our stay was excellent with our choices from the set menu outstanding. The busy restaurant was popular with locals as well as residents and we felt quite safe as tables were a good distance apart. All the staff wore masks and there was sanitiser at the entrances as well as in our room along with disposable masks. The hotel is very popular with dog owners who can dine with their pets in an area off the lounge bar. All the dogs at the hotel were well behaved. We didn't take ours this time as they are young and mischievous, maybe next time. The gardens around the hotel were nice to walk in and the view from our spacious room was stunning. The hotel, although in Lampeter, is secluded, accessed by a drive off the main road with gorgeous countryside around it. We would definitely return. Tan y tro nesaf, diolch yn fawr iawn.

My wife and I have just spent three nights at this hotel in the Valley View Suite on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis and it was an excellent and thoroughly enjoyable experience.
The hotels measures to protect guests from Covid 19 were extremely good with the greatest detail paid to cleanliness, sanitisation, wearing of face masks and social distancing in all public rooms and dining rooms, all of this administered and applied by the staff very pleasantly and efficiently. We felt very safe throughout our entire stay.
The hotel itself is a beautiful building with lovely grounds all excellently maintained. Our suite was spacious, clean, had lovely views and a big comfortable bed.
The food was delicious whether it was dinner or breakfast, always tasty and always hot. The bar had a good range of drinks too.
Above all the staff made our stay extra enjoyable, they are very pleasant, helpful and courteous and go out of their way to make guests feel welcome. Whoever picks them picks well and whoever trains them does so brilliantly, a credit to the Falcondale.
Lastly the location itself is good, the town of Lampeter is well worth a wander and the surrounding countryside and coast worth exploring. We shall return.

We stayed there for a couple of nights to explore parts of Wales we haven’t seen before. Wish we had stopped longer. It looks good as you approach on the South drive- tip unless you have a 4x4 or tractor don’t use the North one, incredibly pitted.

Once in the hotel we were shown a good size double room overlooking the grounds , complete with a small balcony. All the usual facilities, though nothing special in the bathroom.

Inside it has a great country house feel with a bar/lounge, conservatory and a dining room. The latter is pretty devoid of charm due to its size, hard furnishings and the required spacing on tables - on the COVID note, nice to get face masks and sanitiser in the rooms and all the staff wear masks.

Talking about the staff, they make the hotel. Very helpful and friendly, can’t do enough to please you. Have to mention Kieran the duty manager who like the others works his socks off to help you.

Breakfast is very good with the usual traditional cooked options and nice fresh fruit. Dinner choice is very limited at the moment , but very good and can recommend the steaks . Would recommend the menu format being looked at so fillet steaks don’t end up under casual dining.

Overall a well run and welcoming hotel which we will return to!

Wonderful stay from the minute we drove up to the ( sad) minute we left . Old fashioned hotel with old fashioned courtesy . Greeted by a smiley receptionist who referred to us as “folks” and then “ sir “ as she addressed my husband rather than the ugly term of “guys “ that is commonly used nowadays .
We were actually shown to our room rather than the hunting through the corridors which has become acceptable some what .
Room was beautiful and had its own little balcony overlooking the gardens .
Dinner was exquisite and utmost care was given with presentation, menu choices and cloth napkins .
Felt like we were in an Agatha Christie book .
A very lucky find and will certainly return .
Don’t change a thing ! Superb just as it is .

We stayed here for one night as my Birthday treat, from the moment we walked into reception we were greeted by an extremely friendly member of staff who showed us to our room. Our room was perfect, beautifully furnished with a lovely view over the gardens. Our room & the whole hotel was spotlessly clean with all covid guidelines adhered to. It is a character hotel beautifully furnished throughout with plenty of comfy sofas for relaxing. A conservatory area leading to a terrace area with table & chairs overlooking the gardens. Breakfast & evening meal were excellent, every member of staff we met were friendly & helpful, service could was first class. We will certainly return, possibly for our 40th Wedding anniversary in October!

We have stayed a few times before and love this hotel.

This was our first night away since lockdown began and we felt the hotel has adapted really well. The information we were sent before our stay was clear and comprehensive. The hotel was spotlessly clean. All staff were friendly and helpful and adhered scrupulously to social distancing/mask wearing. We felt safe and welcome.

At the time of our stay the restaurant and bar were not yet allowed to open, so we dined from a reduced menu in our room. A dining table had been placed in our room suitable for the height of the chairs. We were offered the option of having all the food delivered at once or to telephone after each course for the next one to arrive. We opted for the latter and it worked perfectly. The food was excellent, appropriately hot (or cold) on arrival and delicious. Breakfast worked much the same.

We stayed in Room 12 which has a balcony and a stunning view of the valley.

Our dog stayed with us. There was a lovely welcome basket for him, including bowls blankets, towels and treats. They even offer a home cooked "doggie dinner" for your four legged friend so he got treated to room service too!

We ordered afternoon tea to take home the next day. This was carefully packaged in takeaway boxes and was also delicious.

After such an odd few months it was lovely to revisit this beautiful hotel, we'll definitely be back again for another short break when we can. Thank you!

Our home away from home when we visit family in Wales. We're very familiar with the hotel and adore the cuisine, which has been consistently excellent for the many years we've been coming; 20ish now I think.

We stayed for three nights after a family wedding at Lake Vyrnwy on Sunday and finally arrived via the back entrance to the hotel. Never done that before and it's pretty tight, but does save going into Lampeter and out again if you're coming in on the A482 from Aberaeron.

There are quite a few familiar faces amongst the staff and the welcome is always good with everyone being extremely helpful. The front desk buzzer didn't always get anyone's attention though.

We were given room 12, a Valley View room with great views from the front of the building, which was also extremely quiet and peaceful. The sleep we seem to get here is so good, nothing disturbs us.

I did read a recent review (1/5) moaning about everything. I can see why you might walk into an old building and start finding fault, but the hotel does not smell damp or musty and we've stayed here in the winter! It's also a building full of character, meaning you have to forgive some of its age related issues (even the perfectly functional lift) which are more than made up for by location, tranquillity and the food.

Having said that, some simple issues in our room ought to be checked and fixed. The bedside lights would fall apart if you touched them, the bulbs in the bathroom aren't bright enough and with LED technology, there really isn't an excuse these days. The bathroom fan wasn't working and the bath mat was lethal and needs a rethink. Simple stuff needs attention and would enhance the stay greatly.

We very much enjoyed our stay, yet again, and simply wouldn't go anywhere else.

Lovely grounds, great staff and wonderful food. The gardens are magnificent and the service brilliant. We stayed in room 14 which was a standard double room which was ok (ish) except for the bed which was tiny despite being a standard double. We had to align the bedside table and suitcase holder along the side of the bed, padded out with towels and cushions to get a decent nights sleep. When I offered some feedback on departure,in the spirit of continuous improvement, I wasn’t sure I was heard . Needs attention.

Set in idyllic surrounding we enjoyed delicious meals including a very special afternoon tea in their new conservatory overlooking the gardens. The welcome could not have been friendlier....genuine and warm. Very close to seaside towns which were unspoilt and equally friendly and on the day of rain the national trust property of Llanerchaeron was well worth a visit. Sue and Allan

Sorry for the delay. I can not vouch for all the rooms but I can confirm that the room I stayed in with my husband on our last visit had a kingsize bed and a dog bed for our greyhound. The dog was most impressed with the facilities as were we. The Falcondale is a lovely hotel set in beautiful countryside. I am sure you will enjoy a stay there. p.s... The food was fab.
