Check in was completed online prior to our stay and All Covid measures were outlined at this time making us aware that masks were required in all public areas except the restaurant. Receptionist Adelle had made contact following booking requesting information about dietary / allergies and if the stay was for a special occasion. All this made check in super quick and efficient.
Our room was not the one that we had booked because we had been upgraded. It was a stunning two level room with a huge very comfortable bed, ample storage, coffee maker with pods and kettle with a fantastic array of teabags including Earl Grey, English Breakfast, mint and camomile. The hot chocolate was delicious. The fridge contained complimentary still and sparkling water plus a glass churn containing fresh milk. Importantly the room had a digital safe. The wall mounted TV was on a pivot enabling viewing from anywhere in the room and there was a table and chairs positioned in one of the window alcoves. Descending two stairs led into the bathroom which had both a stand alone bath and shower cubicle as well as toilet and sink. Complimentary toiletries, huge fluffy towels and subtle lighting enhanced throughout. A low night light on the stairs guided the way safely to the bathroom at night. A complimentary bag containing face masks, gloves and sanitising wipes was a lovely touch.
Breakfast was available either in the dining room or in our room with choices from the extensive menu. We chose to eat in our room at a time chosen by us however on our second morning breakfast hadn’t arrived at the time we had booked and we had to speak to reception when it still hadn’t come after twenty minutes. The reception manager was very apologetic and told us that their mistake would be reflected in our bill. On arriving back that evening a bottle of wine and two glasses were sent to our room and £20 was deducted from our hotel bill. Fantastic customer service.
We ate in the restaurant each evening and the food was delicious. Because it was our anniversary the chef sent a celebration plate with his hand made chocolates that frankly were the best we’ve tasted considering we have visited Belgium extensively trying all the different brands. The only criticism was the menu choices of only three main courses was very limited. As we only stayed three nights we were unaffected as we enjoyed a different choice nightly. The food was excellent, very artistically presented and the service was great.
During our stay the hotel manager introduced herself and all staff were very helpful and cheerful.

We booked just four days before arrival and were extremely lucky to manage to get availability for our one night stay. Our suite was stunning and extremely comfortable, the arrival and check in was seamless as we had checked in via the hotel App and we had made sure we had made our dinner and breakfast reservations at the same time as booking the room to avoid disappointment on arrival and only being offered less preferred times for dining. Our dinner was incredible, beautifully presented, delicious, and incredible value for money for the quality of food served. The Welsh Breakfast was a great way to start to the day of hiking along the coastal walk. We couldn't have been happier with the level of service, care and attention we received from every member of staff and the fact that Twr y Felin seems to be one of the few hotels taking COVID-19 seriously for the safety of their staff and guests. We travelled through South Wales for a week and the other hotels we stayed in seemed to be doing the absolute minimum to comply with government rules. I applaud Twr y Felin for what they are doing. The hotel has had to implement a number of measures for everyone's safety but at no point did we feel it had a negative impact to our overnight stay. Yes they are restricting numbers in the dining areas which means less choice for dining slots if you book late but we all have to adapt for the time being and accept this is the new way of life for now. I read in disbelief those complaining and giving one star in their reviews when our experience was totally the opposite, i can't believe the hotel would ever gives less than a five star experience. Those giving one star clearly don't understand the extra hard work all the staff have to put in each day and the additional costs the hotel is having to cover for everyone's safety during this time. I would have no hesitation in recommending Twr y Felin and I would travel from London to St David's again just to stay and eat here.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
This hotel was completely refurbished a few years ago and the rooms are very high quality in terms of furnishing and facilities. However we felt the public rooms were dark and sterile, and the outside seating/relaxing area most unwelcoming outside he reception entrance. The hotel follows Covid rules meticulously, which means no servicing of rooms. Communication has to be by the Vamoose app including pre ordering of meals. However staff are very responsive. The restaurant food is very high quality, but the dinner menu is very sparse and very expensive. Strangely there is more choice on room service, and better value - so this was our choice.
Overall we found it an expensive and not very relaxing 3 days, although we cannot fault the staff who are very well trained and attentive.

We've just returned from spending 9 nights at Twr y Felin Hotel. We were very happy with how the hotel is following the health and safety regulations during COVID-19. Face masks were required for guests and staff in public areas. Hand sanitizer was available when entering the hotel, in the restaurant and was also provided in the room. The restaurant was following strict rules on which tables could be occupied to ensure the appropriate distance between tables. The room extremely clean, all soft furnishings (extra pillows, throws) removed. Our room (104) had a dining table which came in very handy for room service. In our room we also had a welcome pack containing 4 face masks and a hand sanitizer.
We were initially worried about the potential noise from the extension of the Oriel wing but even though we were in the same wing, the noise was minimal. We were able to sleep in or relax in the room without being disturbed throughout our stay.
The rooms are not serviced unless you make a request or if you stay for an extended period of time like we did, they would service the room every 4th day. This is to ensure minimal contact which we very much appreciated. You can always ask for extra towels, toiletries and they would be happy to provide them.
We’ve had dinner and room service a couple of times at the hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our dishes. The chef can cater for special dietary needs (I’m vegetarian) and also make delicious meat/ fish/ seafood dishes. The ingredients used are high quality and fresh. The added benefit is that a lot of products are locally sourced.
We would recommend upgrading to a room with a terrace (ours was room 104 Oriel spacious room with terrace) as it has a nice outside space to relax on or to have breakfast/ lunch/ dinner.
The staff was very attentive and responded quickly to all our requests made in person or via the app. We’ve appreciated having the app available to message the hotel for breakfast reservations or other queries. They went above and beyond to make sure we can have dinner in the restaurant or in our room depending on the availability and when we’ve raised the request.
It would be difficult to name anyone for their great service as every single person we have interacted with from reception to housekeeping and the restaurant was amazing. A big thank you to the whole team making our stay so enjoyable.

We have just returned from a 7 night stay at Twr Y Felin and cannot praise Paula, Luke and the team enough for their amazing protocols to keep everybody safe in these uncertain times. We arrived on the day the hotel re-opened to a wonderful, warm Welsh welcome and even though the books and soft furnishings had to be removed from the room it didn’t feel any less inviting. The room was spotless and having a dining table and chairs in the room made the room service breakfast and dinner feel special. The menu choices were excellent and all our meals were delicious. It was very easy to place an order through their new app and evening cocktails also arrived quickly and with a smile! Can’t wait to return in the very near future.

We stayed for three nights at the hotel and enjoyed the restaurant dining on our first evening. The room was spacious and had a good terrace with seating for playing cards, reading and relaxing.
The bar serves some great cocktails - highly recommend the Welsh Sea with its local seaweed infused spiced rum. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful and this showed in the hotel and the restaurant for breakfast.
The dinner experience was great with some excellent dishes including Welsh lamb that was cooked to perfection. The artwork around the walls adds to the experience and can also be found in the main bar area on jumbo sized canvasses.
The location of the hotel is ideal for a short walk into St Davids or to drive from to reach other destinations. We also walked down to Caerfai for a great coastal walk past the birthplace of St David and around to Portclais.
Would return but note one snag was the housekeeping. On arrival we were told that our room may be cleaned only once or possibly twice due to covid restrictions. Sadly it wasn’t cleaned at all and would have been nice to be told in advance.

ACCOMMODATION: Our room, 116, was a decent size and had a great view of the recycling skip and car park. it was well equipped, large TV, safe, phone charging points, but no carpet on the floor and minimal soundproofing. We were disturbed by people trampling around on the floor above us and in the corridor outside our door. The bathroom was large and well equipped. Beds had Sealy mattresses which unfortunately have the latex or memory foam type topping which always makes me wake up through the night feeling too hot. It doesn't affect everyone, but I know a number of other people who find these mattresses uncomfortable. My wife thought it was fine.
This isn't the place to come if you are looking for classic country house hotel standards. Decor is ultra modern, immaculate, clean and comfortable, though lighting is low level in both bedrooms and public areas.
Car parking is ample, you can walk into the town in 5 minutes where there are alternative eating venues. The coastal path is 10 minutes walk away and offers great walking both to the east and west.
FOOD: At dinner, the main course portions were well cooked, but very small and at the relatively high cost I think a dish of vegetables should have been included.
It's not that long ago that at hotels of this standard, the waiter would go around the table and offer to put potatoes, greens, etc. on your plate in the quantity you wished for. A sad decline in standards. We also had to wait an hour between starter and main courses.
Worst of all was the New Year dinner. I had expected a proper gala dinner with good platefulls of delicious food which I had chosen. We were provided with a taster "menu" with no choice consisting of very small portions of food, some of which I didn't like and found extremely disappointing, especially as it cost £105 each.
Breakfasts were excellent with a decent choice of well cooked "mains" and plenty of extras to choose from on the buffet.
All the staff I came into contact with were friendly and pleasant.

Thank you so much for choosing to celebrate the New Year with us. We really enjoyed your company. We were so sorry to hear that you experienced noise from your room. This is the first time in four years since opening that we have received this feedback, so we will certainly be monitoring this for the future. We are so pleased that your wife enjoyed our high quality Sealy beds, mattress and extra mattress toppers. Our beds providing peaceful rest is the most common positive comment that guests leave us with on departure. Thank you for highlighting that as one of Wales' leading luxury boutique hotel, we offer high end, world class decoration features in all of our rooms, including Solid Oak Flooring with designer cosy rugs in all of our bedrooms and Portuguese Limestone tiles in all of our bathrooms as we want to offer our guests the feeling of staying is a luxury home, rather than a carpets often seen in a corporate hotel environment. We are so pleased you helped us communicate to future guests that we are indeed the antithesis of Country House Hotels. Indeed we are Wales' first contemporary Art Hotel with over 150 original works of art in the public lounges and guest bedrooms. As you mentioned, we are located at the entrance of St Davids City and not the country. Thank you for sharing your expectation of more traditional dining on the first day with us, which enabled us to tailor make wherever possible to suit your individual needs. As the best fine dining Restaurant in Pembrokeshire with 2 AA Rosettes, we do indeed deliver a 'fun with food' ethos where quality takes precedence over quantity. Our extremely popular Tasting Menus is what sets us apart from our other restaurant partners in the area. Thank you so much your lovely comments about our award winning breakfasts at Twr y Felin Hotel, Penrhiw Priory and Roch Castle and our positive team. We really did enjoy looking after you and your friends. Cofion cynnes, Paula Ellis - Group General Manager.

My husband booked 2 nights at this hotel from the 19th to the 21st September as a surprise birthday gift for myself . I was delighted to find a handwritten birthday card and truffles from Helen and the Twr Y Felin team waiting for me in our suite . The Reception staff went out of their way to be helpful.
The location is excellent, turn left out of the grounds for a walk along part of the superb Pembrokeshire coastal path or turn right into the tiny but impressive City of St Davids.
We found the hotel itself to be faultless and the staff, without exception were professional, accommodating and friendly. Our suite, the Tyddewi Windmill Tower was absolutely wonderful. It’s quirkiness combined with luxurious fittings, toiletries and everything else you would expect from a prestigious hotel and more made it very special. The 360 degree views from the suite were truly spectacular.
We dined in the hotel’s Blas restaurant on both evenings and were pleased that the contemporary menu was compact yet with something to tempt any taste. We loved that local Welsh produce was promoted. Although we were only here for 2 nights one of the main course dishes and a dessert were changed after our first night. The quality of the food was exceptional and it was beautifully presented as were our pre dinner drinks and the wine we chose to drink with our meal. My Bloody Mary was one of the best I’ve ever had and the Welsh rosé wine was crisp and very moreish. Breakfast was outstanding, again with a variety of local produce and lots of choice.
We thought that the decor of the hotel lent itself well to display the individualistic and unforgettable Art throughout. It was quite breathtaking.
Discreet COVID-19 precautions ensured an overall feeling of safety.
On the morning of our departure we were greeted by Daniel who asked us how our stay had been and if there was anything that could have been done to improve it. We were honest in our summing up of it being a perfect break and that we could not think of anything that could be improved upon.
We look forward to a return visit as 3days/2nights were not enough to enjoy all that the hotel and its surroundings have to offer.

We stayed a number of nights in an Oriel spacious room with a patio. Hotel is upscale with a good vibe. The room was excellent and we loved the outdoor space but sadly a lack of attention to detail and some strange furniture means this is not a 5 blob hotel.
In the room there seemed to be an abundance of chairs and tables - we had a small settee, two small occasional tables, a dining table, a desk and chair, a tub seat and two other chairs. All in all it made the room feel cramped and meant moving around could be tricky. As the weather was nice we ended up putting two of the chairs on the patio to get some space in the room.
As to details, we had room service breakfast each morning and each morning a) something was missed food wise and b) the presentation was different. For example on day 1 we had no milk for the cereal and extra side plates, day 2 we had the milk, extra cutlery but a missing food item we had ordered.
This is an expensive hotel and to not have basic service standards in place is poor - an experienced GM would be all over this focusing on a different service area each day at random to make sure standards are kept up.

Response from Twr Y Felin, General Manager at Twr y Felin Hotel
Responded 21 Sept 2020
Thank you so much for highlighting the extra furniture which we placed in the bedrooms to encourage guests to choose in-room dining to maximize social distancing. Now that we have screens in Blas Restaurant, we can move the extra dining table and chairs from our bedrooms. I will certainly be working on our room service standards, and thank you for your constructive feedback to me personally as GM. I would like to reassure future guests that I am currently UK Independent Hotelier of the Year and have successfully managed some of Wales' leading luxury hotels over the last 20 years. We had the pleasure of staying in the Tyddewi suite at Twr Y Felin on Valentines Day just gone. We knew of the hotel’s reputation and it did not disappoint. We were blown away by everything, from the welcoming, generous and hard working staff, the lovely food and drink to the quality of the suite itself.
The suite was unique, of exceptional quality and came with added personal touches, including a hand written welcoming card, local chocolates and a chilled bottle of processco for the occasion.
This sense of locality continued at the restaurant. In the evening we enjoyed a seven course taster menu which included ingredients sourced from the local area - it is clear the hotel is proud of its Welsh heritage and works hard to ensure that it showcases the best Wales has to offer.
The service, presentation and standard of food was of an excellent standard.
Finally, the technology in the hotel was brilliant (something we look for) and remained uninterrupted despite the bad weather.
We cannot recommend Twr Y Felin enough, we have been talking about the stay since we left. We are already planning our return and intend on bringing friends with us next time - the hotel really is a destination in its own right.

I don’t think they take dogs
As we are a hypoallergenic property, we do not allow dogs inside the building, and for the comfort of the dog we also do not accept bookings where dogs are left in the car overnight.
We do indeed serve lunch at Twr y Felin in our Blas Restaurant or in out Oriel Lounge. We have a wonderful Day Menu that is available at any time throughout the day, 7 days a week.
Regards
Paula Ellis
