Detailed Reviews
We have just returned from a 3 night stay here celebrating a milestone birthday, staying at the Ash Valley Yurt. This place is mesmerising, so good for the soul. We woke up to a view of low lying clouds sweeping over the mountains every morning. Every night we'd fall asleep to the sounds of a waterfall nearby. The outdoor bath is magical - you don't want to get out! We took our young children with us - they loved 'shepherding' the sheep every morning, and enjoyed hikes up the mountain. Margaret and her children greeted us on the first day and they were a pleasure to be around, thanks for checking in on us!
There is limited phone reception in the Ash Valley Yurt, although we recommend switching off phones! We loved it so much that we'd love to come back next year. Thank you so much, what a discovery!

A wonderful, relaxing and peaceful birthday weekend.
Nothing I say can do this site justice, the outstanding beauty of the surrounding area, the soul restoring peacefulness and the comfort of yurt must be experienced first hand!
Wonderful hosts greeted us and showed us to our River Yurt, the local sheep kept a watchful eye over us during our stay and we even had a visit from a common lizard.
I spent so much time just sitting and watching the birds flit around the trees, and even made friends with a robin!
A perfect, perfect weekend!

Our trip to Eco Retreats exceeded all of our expectations. Such an amazing place to connect with nature and escape the chaos of city life. No phone signal for a couple of days was exactly what we needed and in such a beautiful setting. Initially driving up the forest track to get to the yurt you knew this was going to be a special place. The amenities were fantastic meaning we only needed to bring a bag each and food and drink. We only booked for 3 nights but I wish we had booked for longer. There is so much to do in the area including the beaches and the unreal Cadair Idris walk. But also walks around the site if you don’t fancy leaving and want to relax. Angus and Florence were very welcoming. Can’t wait to visit again!

Let me start off by saying I was very sceptical about staying half way up a mountain in a goat herders tent, and was cajoled into it by my wife booking a special offer via KGB deals..
Following a mix-up with the booking which was wonderfully sorted out by Chanan and involved me checking my spam folders..and offering sincere apologies for any problems I had caused...
We arrived on the Monday Afternoon not knowing what to expect , especially when we had driven miles up a forest trail without sighting so much as a tipi...then turning the final corner we were presented with one of the most tranquil places we had ever been too..
A field full of sheep and prancing lambs all less than a week old...
We were shown to our yurt and had explained the what's and where-fors of the log burner and the Dunni..
We were also told we were the only occupants on the site for the next 2 days apart from the sheep and an occasional visit by the farmer to tend his flock. A bit worrying being 5 miles from civilisation and a weak signal for the mobile..
We needn't have worried the farmer was great , he replendished our wood when it got low and was really nice to talk to (Thanks Edris)
The NITTI GRITTI...
Cold water, freezing shower, outside toilet, precipitious drop from the toilet down a ravine next to it...why did I like it ....????
No electricity, no WiFi no mobile signal how was I going to survive???
Glamping at it's best...
We had the most chilled 2 nights that we have ever had before.. in fact we hardly left the Yurt to venture out.. not a bad idea really as the rain was lashing down most of the time so the wine flowed ...
The walking boots remained in the car...
My wife had never had an open fire before so she took control of the log burner which proved to be a must considering the foul weather, and she made sure it never went out...
The beds were futons with a comfortable mattress and duvets with throws to keep you warm.
There were some draughts from the Yurt skin but nothing to make the nights unbearable. The Yurt did not leak even though the rain hit it hard.
Every thing that you need in a welcome pack was provided including ice blocks in a cool box...
Loads of candles which also helped warm the living area...
Now the DUNNI...
If you are at all squeemish this is not for you, an outhouse with a foam toilet seat over a bucket with sawdust for coverage is what you get...
At night you must watch your step , especially if you have partaken of the wine...There is a steep slope right next to the toilet entrance so the use of a torch is a must...
The Washing Facilities are a cold tap with a cold shower or a camping shower if you want to brave either. Bearing in mind we went in April the weather was really cold at night..
So for a great relaxing holiday leave the iPads and Mobile Phones in the car or at home and go with the flow...
A word of warning there can be quite a trek to some of the tipis so go for the Yert near the welcome tent if you are a bid doddery on your pins...
Get all your supplies in Town and just forget the car when you are there...

We had a wonderful and truly relaxing break at Eco Retreats in March 2012 (thank you Mum and Dad for the best birthday present ever!). The location is absolutely beautiful and our teepee was amazing (cosy, pretty and clean). After a friendly welcome and informative introduction to how things worked in the teepee (gas stove, wood burner, water filter, dunny, etc) we didn’t see another person for the rest of our stay. The teepees and yurts are widely spread out so that your only view is rolling hills by day and stars by night, and the only sounds are the birds, sheep and the stream - blissful. The teepee is equipped with everything you need, so travel light and just take a few clothes and food. You won’t want to leave the site so be sure to take enough food for the whole of your stay (you get a delicious welcome pack of wine, biscuits, pasta and pasta sauce to start you off). The local walks in the hills and forest are lovely so take your walking shoes and binoculars. We chose not to have the reiki and not to join the meditation as it’s not our thing, and that was absolutely fine – there is no pressure at all. The website is very helpful and accurate so we recommend you read it before you go, and the driving directions are spot on and easy to follow. The only thing we wished we had done differently was to book 4 nights instead of 2 – if you are looking for something really special and a little bit different then we highly recommend Eco Retreats. We can’t wait to go back.

Was not really sure what to expect not being a hardcore camper but absolutely loved this...
The location could not be more perfect and the views on the way to site are incredible, you may think that 30 mins is a long time to get in but you will be driving so slowly to see what's around you that it might take longer. We were welcomed by Julia who gave us a thorough tour and explanation of how everything worked and then we took everything up to the tipi and settled in. We were totally alone on site the first night and the sky was so clear you could see the milky way!
Like the previous reviewer we also stayed in Waterfall tipi, which was very well equipped with everything you might need. It was also was very warm and cosy and romantic with a comfy bed, cushions and sheepskins. We actually got engaged in it!
The surrounding landscape is sheep farm land and mixed broadleaf and conifer forest which you are free to roam around and there are many small streams and waterfalls to explore.
The compost loo is great. We did give the fresh stream water shower a miss, cheating using the solar/kettle shower bag instead as it was the end of September and a little cool, in summer I would have gone for it.
We'll definitely be back
Tips for your trip
Stock up in Machynelleth with everything you may need, if you are arriving on Wednesday there is a market on which is worth a good potter about, as is the town itself so give yourself plenty of time to shop and get up to site. Thursday is half day closing for many of shops. Check out the deli and the quarry cafe for a good veggie bite to eat.
Bring wellies and waterproofs and a good torch, we had brought our big one which we ended up hanging above the stove so I could see to cook. A wind up torch is provided and is handy for finding your way to loo. Also if you wear contact lenses, bring yourself a mirror. The hills are very steep and the tipis a fair distance from the car park so be prepared for a bit of trek to get yourself up there. When you're up there and the weather is fine, stay up there! We went to CAT on our checking out day and we'd had torrential rain the night before and that morning and were so glad we'd stayed on site when the weather was good to explore about.
We'll definitely be back again, maybe in the summer next time

This review is long overdue, as we stayed here last July and had a magical fantastic time. When you arrive here it is as though you have totally left the world behind. The tipis are so well equipped, well cleaned and comfortable. Apart from the meditation session, we did not see another person during our stay, as they are all positioned in their own places which makes it even more special, we stayed in "Waterfall" - All of the Tipi's have different names. This is not a place to go unless you want tranquility and peace.
Tips if you are planning to go here:-
Take everything you need in terms of food (there is a basic hamper for you), but once you have arrived here, you would not want to leave during your stay.
The road leading up to the retreat can be narrow in parts and i did find this a bit of a shock.
If your style of camping is usually with alot of people around and facilities, then you would probably not enjoy this. However if you want a tranquil experience where you can be at one with nature this is a must.
The toilets and showers are adequate, but be prepared to get a bit cold in the shower if the sun doesn't shine, as the only hot water is solar heated in bags.
A well thought out place - 5 Star tranquility at it's best.
For us this will always be a magical memory and we will go back at some time.

Wow, I have just come back from four days of absolute bliss. It was everything I hoped for and more. It’s so beautiful there I really got back in touch with nature and myself. There is everything you could possibly need in the Tipi; I stayed in the easy Tipi, they really have thought of everything, I never moved from the site for the whole of my stay and I am looking forward to going back next year. Any anxieties I might have had about being alone for four nights quickly went as soon as I arrived. Beautiful walks, birds, sheep, a lot of sheep, rabbits, trees, stunning meadows, lovely streams, all places that I go to in my head when I want to be at peace. I loved chopping the wood, building the fire, eating outside, sitting and staring at nature and the fire, walking across the meadow with no shoes on, watching the moon coming up at night and the sun coming up in the morning. It’s so peaceful and safe there, I could go on and on but words can’t really explain it you have to go and experience it for yourself.

We were fortunate to win a 2 night stay at Eco Retreats and we are now trying to work out when we can return.
We had been past their turning numerous times over the years going to other places and not realised what we were missing.
You are grateful for their signs as you drive through the forest and are then greated and shown to your tipi. We had the one at the very top of the site and if we hadn't seen the others you'd have thought no one else was around.
Everything is there for you so you don't have take a thing expect maybe a book and a attitude of relaxtion.
Whilst there I would recommend a trip to the Centre for Alternate Engergy nearby as it opens your eyes to a few things. Then the choice is yours - we walked and went to the beach but we'd have been quite happy to not move from the tipi for 2 days.
Book now - you'll love it.

Hi,
Sorry but we don’t allow dogs. We’re surrounded by sheep grazing and so this is our agreement with the farmers who we rent the land from.
