An honest mixed review after our nights stay.
Nice looking pub on the edge of the village with nice walks from the car park. (although slightly flooded on arrival)
The room was small and very hot, with heating pipes running under the floor but had all we needed. The ground floor view was of the car park and because of the heat we didn't sleep that well.
We booked a dog in with us and although dogs are asked not to use the bed, we had no alternative so had to ask for a dog bed.
Staff were very friendly and helpful and the pub interior was very tasteful.
Our evening meal on the whole was great but the French onion soup starter was very heavy like a caramelised onion.
The mains on the whole were good. A great rump steak with all the trimmings cooked to perfection. The steak and ale pie was very fatty so our dog finished this off.
My summer fruits pudding was a bland apple crumble which was only semi warm. Dissapointing end to a good night although I was full by this time.
If you book a stay here, you will need to ask for milk in your room, as we did on a few occasions. (even at 07.30am). It's not supplied as standard as no fridge in the
room.
All in all a nice place in a great location but just a few minor points that need considering with future customers.

Checked in at 3.00 to a very hot, noisy, dark, but very clean and comfortable room. Booked a table for 7.00 and the meal was very good and not overpriced for a Valentines evening. Didn’t have a great sleep because of a very noisy radiator and our room being near the plant room. Breakfast was very nice apart from no brown sauce and tomato ketchup served when we had nearly finished. Shame about the water everywhere in the car park but nothing can be gone when the weather has been so wet. We would stay again but would ask for another room and milk to be supplied for a cup of tea in the morning

Good afternoon, Thank you for your feedback. i have been upstairs and looked at the radiator and also put a call in for it to be repaired so that it inst constantly on at its full temperature due to the control being broken. i have also made the team aware that we should be offering fresh milk on arrival and again asking if people would like fresh milk at a certain time in the morning. i dont want to go down the uht milk line but also understand there are no fridges in the room. best regards

My partner and myself stayed for 2 nights in October and we honestly couldn’t fault the place. The room was a good size with quite possibly the comfiest mattress i’ve ever slept on… no word of lie AMAZING !!! In fact we’ve asked the hotel what type of mattress is was as we shall be purchasing one!

The quality of my night sleep was brilliant a truly silent night sleep!

The bathroom was a great size with good lightening, the shower was brilliant , powerful spacious and warm. Fresh towels, shower wash, shampoo and conditioner provided daily ( the body wash was also divine).

We have breakfast for the two mornings and each one was beautiful. We were warmly welcomed down each morning by the very friendly staff, there was a nice selection for breakfast with good tea and coffee!

We stayed in the bar one evening for a drink and it felt like home, the pub was warm and welcoming with the log fire burning. There was a brilliant drink selection. When we sauntered up to our room again we couldn’t hear a thing from downstairs so another silent night sleep.

I wouldn’t think twice about staying anywhere else and have recommended family stay here when next visiting the area

Disappointing stay here. On checking in, given wrong information about breakfast times. Breakfast starts at 8.00 not 8.30 as we’re told.Taken to the room via stairs where the carpet was threadbare. The room was dingy with very dark paint on one wall. The window frames were tatty and dirty. No shelf in the bathroom for toothbrush etc. 2 coat hangers only. Got into bed late only to find there was no sheet on the bed. Slept on uncomfortable mattress protector. Wanted a cup of tea in the morning, no ordinary teabags and no milk. Told that we should have been told to ask for milk if we needed it when we checked in! Asked for milk the following evening and given a jug of milk in a bowl of ice to keep cool during the night. Put this in the bathroom as the bedroom was warm but as no shelf had to put it in the floor. Plug hole in the sink needs a good ‘toothbrush’ scrub. No cereal option other than porridge or granola at breakfast. Poached egg was solid! Fabric of building tired. Not good value for money. Use of toilet facilities in neighbouring room leaves nothing to the imagination.

The room had a flagstone floor which made the room really cold during the day. It felt like we were sleeping in a kitchen. It was too cold for us to use the bath/shower. The window overlooked the pub garden with no privacy so we had to shut the blind during the day. On arrival there appeared to be dust on the bedlinen. We had a really bad night's sleep due to noise from other rooms and the room felt 'airless' and got really hot overnight. We overheard other guests complaining about lack of sleep due to noises and staff offered nothing in terms of compensation, e.g. reduced rate.

We ordered the roast dinner platter for £50 between 2 of us and were really underwhelmed with the service, staff were not visible and we could see nearby tables taking nearly an hour to be cleaned. It took ages for our food to come, staff were really apologetic but the food was lukewarm by the time we received it and cold by the time we'd finished eating it. The portion was really poor for the price, we got 1 person's serving of vegetables and only 1 piece of each meat between us. Wouldn't recommend based on our experience as we essentially paid £50 for one portion of cold roast dinner. The quality was OK, but the potatoes were chewy, similar to Toby Carvery.

We had to ask for the Wifi password as it wasn't clearly displayed anywhere in the pub or the room. Also shocked to find out the manager didn't really know what time the pub was staying open on the Sunday, apparently as 'they don't usually open on a Sunday', and told us last orders for food was 7.30pm.

Overall very poor quality for the price. If we decided to stay in the area again we would opt for the George. The staff there were very pleasant, attentive and the food much nicer and better quality. The rooms look nicer too.

I've had better stays at Premier Inns for much less than we paid for our room, and we got it at a discount. Would be absolutely disgusted if I paid as much as other people seem to have paid.

We stayed here overnight for the first time having visited for meals previously when visiting family in the area. The room was very nice, very large comfortable bed, nice linen and towels and a good shower. Also a very good coffee machine. We also had a nice dinner and breakfast. So all that was good.....however.... we did not have a good nights sleep as the sound insulation is very poor between rooms. We were on the ground floor and could hear the TV and people talking , moving upstairs above us which was a shame. The people came back at 2.30pm and woke us up and got up about 7am on a Sunday morning! When packing up we noticed ear plugs with the magazines!!
It would have been a lovely stay if no one had been in the adjacent rooms! Not sure if we would stay here again because of this.

Our room (no 1), was next to the back entrance to the kitchen so we had late night and early morning disturbances due to staff moving equipment about (?) and talking..
There was no spare toilet roll in the room( so we had to take one from the ladies toilet!) Neither was there a hygiene bin in the bathroom.
There was no Breakfast tea in the room, only others teas we don’t like to drink in the morning!
Cobwebs and dust and grimy skirtings were evident in bathroom, particularly in the corner behind the door at floor level.
There was no night light in the bathroom. (the Bathroom mirror could have been used as one only it was wired into the main light, so when the light switch was on you got all lights on and vice versus!
There was badly chipped dark blue paint in the bathroom and the bedroom which looks unsightly.
There were only two coat hangers for a double room with two occupants???
The Roman blind unravelled but only very tentatively and it wasn’t pleasant to handle.
The room window opened over the garden so there was little security or privacy.
The room did not feel deep cleaned or cared for.
The Bar and food service, albeit friendly, was slow.
The food was only of a mediocre standard - the Kiev dish being very greasy.
Creaking floorboards we’re evident in the room above ours. Guests or staff were therefore heard walking and clattering about. In addition we heard talking and laughing in the room above us from 5.30am, thereby waking us up and disturbing our anticipated Sunday morning lie in!
There was no gas on which to cook eggs for breakfast.
Badly flaking paint was evident on the buildings as were clearly rotting window frames (all around the premises).
The whole enterprise needs investment - money, resources, training!
Our recommendation would be not to stay here, as it is not good value for the overnight rate charged compared to many hotels we have stayed in over the last two weeks.

We are sorry you didn't enjoy your stay with us. we are in the process of redecorating the whole building and windows will be addressed too in the spring. we do except deliveries early in the morning so i'm sorry this disturbed you. our building is an old building so there are some creaky floor boards but we will look into this. i am very sorry for the gas issue that happened we lost the entire days take with this also but it has now been fixed. i have since changed our cleaning team and they are doing a fantastic job. unfortunately we do replace coat hangers constantly but guests sometimes take these by mistake and so we do run short sometimes. we hope you will stay with us again and feel free to ask for anything extra you may need as we have plenty of spares of everything just in case. i am disappointed you didn't enjoy the food as the new menu (especially the chicken kiev ) has really gone down well and we have had several glowing reports on the kiev. we do take all complaints and use them to improve so thank you for letting us know your feed back.

When the photos encourage you to stay, but in reality it's totally different.

We stayed for two nights and was concerned when we realised the room we stayed in (Rm4) was above the kitchen, but we were assured the kitchen closed at 9pm and the extractor would be switched off by 10pm; it was.... Well on the first night!

The second night the extractor was left on and no sleep could be had. We enquired at breakfast if anybody was around at night if there were any issues, and were surprised to hear that nobody was overnight. Thankfully there were no emergencies.... Also not sure how you would get in if you went out for the evening and came back after the staff had left for the evening as you only get given your room key.

The room appeared nice on entering, with a vintage type bulb giving a nice warming glow. Only once you're settled in do you realise there is no decent light, and you're depending on one single Anglepoise light. You have to make tea/coffee in the dark. There are also no mirrors in the bedroom, so when you are drying hair you have to use a plug outside the bathroom and go into the bathroom to use the mirror in there.... Not the safest!

The bathroom has one bulb not working and the mirror light on the wall didn't work, so another dark room. The bathroom only had an extractor so was damp, with paint flaking in the shower.

Breakfast was ok, but nothing to shout about. The service was ok, but staff disappeared as soon as you were served and couldn't be seen again unless you went hunting.

It was probably a really nice place to stay in it's day, but that day has well and truly gone. Needs work now.

We dropped in at the Inn on the way back from Bournemouth, running late on a Sunday at 2.45. It was no problem for them soon seated in the lovely garden burgers on order. The burgers were just great one cheese and bacon one plain all done and served smoothly with plenty of social distancing. So glad we took the detour off the A34 it was definitely worth it and such a lovely place. We will be back
