We had the best stay here and can't wait to stay again. The cottage's interior was lovely, beautifully decorated, very comfortable bed and cozy living room with the fire place. The surrounds and garden were far beyond what we were expecting. It was very relaxing and just a beautiful place to stay. The owner is incredibly generous and provided everything...

Thankyou Mary for a delightful stay at the cottage. We could only stay one night but it is such a beautiful place to stay. The art deco furnishings are simply stunning and the attention to detail just superb. Mary had a lovely platter waiting for us which was more than enough for dinner with a great bottle of wine. The...

Thanks Nadine for your lovely review. We hope you come again. Glad you like the bottle of wine. We thought we would add that as you had been before and glad it was a good bottle.

We spent a weekend in the cottage and it was one of the best weekends away for a while. The cottage was beautiful and very well equipped with lots of unexpected extras and very relaxing, the garden was great with access to Cloudhill gardens next door. Plenty to do nearby in Olinda, the hosts were super helpful as well, hope...

Thank you so much for your review. We love it when people enjoy our retreat from city life. We hope you enjoyed your meal at Coonara Springs. The weather is beautiful again today. Sun and the garden is looking so green because of the rain. We look forward to seeing you again

Woolrich Cottage Retreat rates as one of the best b&bs we have been to in Australia. Everything that could possibly be needed was provided and more. The house itself is superbly renovated, with comfortable bedrooms, excellent living space and kitchen and a deck with one of the best views imaginable. The garden itself and the bird life is as magnificent...

Everthing was perfect, except we never have a chance to meet with the host during our 2 nights visit. The garden was spectacular, and a free entrance to the Cloudehill Garden next door was a plus. The breakfast supplied was very good.

Mary was extremely lovely when finding out we were getting married at staying at the 2 bedroom cottage, and let us host the ceremony in the spectacular garden for free. The house itself was the perfect spot to prepare for the wedding, and have a glass of champagne straight after. The fireplace added the perfect romantic touch. The only thing...

Mary, the host, lovingly runs and maintains an outstanding accommodation. We look forward to our return to this cottage every year, our ‘cabin in the sky’. We enjoy the spacious and private setting overlooking the magnificent gardens. As we stayed nearly a week, Mary was thoughtful enough to provide exceedingly generous provisions: gourmet delicacies and abundant fresh fruit. I also...

I was given a night at the Retreat as a birthday present. What a great gift. The Retreat is very well set up, with everything you could possibly need. A lovely lounge area with an open fire place and views over the gardens and nearby hills. There is a balcony with a BBQ. A spacious bedroom and large comfortable bed....

We stayed in the Garden Retreat and were super disappointed. The room was lovely and spacious with a fireplace and the breakfast provisions delicious but it was a really noisy as the room is under the house and there is probably floor boards in the house as we could hear people walking around from quite early (around 7ish) both mornings...

I'm sorry you were disappointed with your stay. The spa bath is difficult because you have to fill the spa and get into it before you turn it on. It is very robust and I usually explain that to people. The shower is a housekeeping oversight and I will speak with the cleaner about it. It is unfortunate that you...

Every so often, my son and daughter and I meet up for a family reunion/holiday, staying at Woolrich Retreat. Mary is very available and we are always well cared for. It is a home-away-from-home for us (we currently live in North Queensland). I like the personal touches of a by-gone era (so hard to find), and the lovely fresh local...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
WELCOME TO WOOLRICH RETREAT In Woolrich's historic five-acre woodlands you will find our two luxury retreats where guests will enjoy the very best bed & breakfast accommodation available in the Dandenong Ranges. Privacy, open fires, spas, ensuites, decks with BBQs overlooking the gardens and free entry to Cloudehill Gardens next door. Walk, laze by the fire, relax in the spa or soak in the view with a glass of wine. The perfect Yarra Valley & Dandenong Ranges getaway. WOOLRICH COTTAGE Built in the 1920s, the cottage's Art Deco features have been retained and restored to create this elegant accommodation. Fine furniture complements the period architectural features such as the Art Deco leadlight windows. The cottage includes two bedrooms with large ensuites, so two couples can enjoy equal luxury as well as an indoor, four person Jacuzzi hot tub under a glass skylight. The lounge room has an open fire, and a bay window with dining table. The kitchen has granite bench tops and a farmhouse sink. French doors open up onto a deck with a BBQ and outdoor furniture for alfresco dining with garden and mountain views. GARDEN RETREAT In French Provence style, the Garden Retreat is perfect for one couple with its king-size bed and double spa (separate shower). Miele appliances in the kitchen, leadlight windows, in the bathroom and bedroom, TV with Foxtel and DVD and a lovely open wood fire in the cosy lounge room makes this an experience to remember. Outside, the balcony, complete with BBQ, and art deco table and chairs sits at the edge of a canopy of trees. Walk down the steps next to your retreat and open the gate to Cloudehill Gardens or go the other way into the Woolrich Woodlands with its meandering paths, lyrebirds, azalea maze and the dell. OLINDA VILLAGE Olinda is one of the major villages of the hills. It is close to the winery district of Yarra Valley and Puffing Billy, a steam train which goes to Emerald. It is the centre of many famous gardens. Just along the road is the National Rhododendron Garden, there are many other national and private gardens which are open to the public. You can go and pick raspberries and strawberries in season, visit the trout farm, or see William Rickett's sanctuary where he created sculptures honouring the aborigines. It is a delight to shop in the villages which is full of all kinds of shops with unusual things for sale. ... more   less
