My husband and I stayed two nights in Suite #2. The location could not be more perfect! Right on Main Street between the ice cream shop and mercantile. It was especially beneficial when walking around, since most shops on Main don't offer a public restroom. The room was great, and very clean. The only negative thing I could possibly say is there isn't much sound proofing between the two suites. We would definitely stay again!

We stayed here for a 2nd time and was extremely disappointed. The "hot tub" was more of a luke warm tub. Light bulbs were burnt out and not replaced. TV reception was spotty. The towels that if you get makeup on and will be charged $50 to replace were very rough. Nails in the floor coming up.

This place was perfect for our last minute getaway!! We loved how all the shops were just downstairs since it overlooks downtown! Very clean, everything worked & the hot tub was the perfect end to a cold winter night!! The only thing I didn't like was the old baby shoes in the bed room that was kinda creepy but was the joke of the night!!!! We would recommend it and will stay here again!!

We went in April with another couple and rented both rooms. Guest suite #1 is perfect! Updated bathroom, and the rooms are bright and cheerful. Guest suite #2 had the deck with hot-tub which was great for sitting out at night. We had the whole floor which made it feel like "our place" for the weekend. The location was perfect. However, although Suite 2 had the deck and hot-tub, there were some issues with the room. No cold water in bathroom sink, living area was very dark, coffee pot didn't work, and hot-tub wasn't fully functional either. The jets did not work and the temperature is not adjustable, and it was extremely hot. We noted these things on check-out as they are all extremely fixable. If you were to choose one suite and don't care about a hot-tub, Suite 1 is definitely a winner! But, overall, a great place that was perfect for 4 people. We would stay there again.

Stayed here on a girlfriend getaway. Rooms were cold and drafty - everyone was freezing all night. Place had a creepy feel to it - like haunted. Slept with the the light on. The others thought they saw ghostly shadows and a the outline of a man in one of the suites during the night. Not scary ghosts just a ghostly feeling. Probably wouldn't choose to stay here again. Would prefer a B&B with owners on site so that there actually was a "& B" included and we didn't have to walk out for breakfast. Town rolls up after dark.

I know this is an old building, but because of the variety of small yet irritating inconveniences we encountered during our stay, we would not return to this B &B. The cold water faucet didn't just drip, it RAN constantly, which we only figured out because at first we thought it was just plain broken, as nothing happened when we turned the cold water faucet handle. At some point we realized the valve below the sink was shut off, and so to get cold water, you had to turn that on first...then turn it off when you were done...it was separate from the hot water faucet, so basically there was no "warm" water....just hot or cold....and cold only if you were willing to mess with the valve beneath the sink repeatedly. The wireless internet access didn't work. The DVD player was not hooked up --- we had to pull the tv out, unplug the cable from the back of the tv, and plug in the DVD player whenever we wanted to use it. There are no thermostats in the room. The thermostat is out in the foyer. No problem, right? But wait....it is behind a GIANT armoire....to access it you have to pull out a big drawer (get a friend to hold it for you), use the flashlight you find in the drawer, and look for the hole cut out of the back of the armoire....the thermostat is back there. Unfortunately it controls temp in both rooms, so hopefully the people staying in the suite next to you won't object to your temperature preferences! It would probably be good information for folks to know that this is a second story room above the main street shops....you have to haul your luggage up a steep flight of antique steps.....if you are lucky enough to park on the main street. If you end up parked in back, you will have to haul your luggage all the way around the block to the front. Although you could use the "private" entrance in back....a steep, deadly iron spiral staircase. I wouldn't go up and down that thing by myself much less carrying luggage. There is no breakfast....vouchers for several local eateries....about 2/3 of which we never could find, or they were closed at the time we were looking to eat (we are fairly early risers, try finding a breakfast at 7am, it ain't happening!) The room is decorated cute if you like shabby chic. Fixtures are genuine, wood floors, all that...if that's your thing, you will probably find it charming. I didn't mind, but since they advertised some modern amenities like internet access and a dvd player it would be nice if those things actually worked. I did like being so close to the main street....easy to go shopping, find a place to eat, etc. We were in the BACK suite (the one with the deck and the hot tub) and I wonder how noisy the front suite (which faces the street) might be.... Overall, we had a relaxing weekend, but were disappointed in the QUALITY of this B & B. Wouldn't return.

We stayed in room #1. I enjoyed our stay. I could not imagine a more perfect location for the center of action. I did however, have an issue with the refidgerator in my room. Apparently, it was going south and made a dying cow noise. Problem solved by pulling the plug at night. I could hear street noise but, around 10:30, was no longer and issue. The coffee pot in the room did not work. The bedding was so terrific I found myself wanting to hop in the bed as soon as I came in from shopping. The bathroom and the seated living area overlook main street. In the foyer, there are several books and business records from the 1900's that I found interesting to look through. We stayed 2 nights and unfortunately, found myself running to the 5 and dime across the street for additional toilet paper as there was only one roll provided.

For those people who say that this or any B&B on main kept you up all night because of the noise well you wanted to stay on Main St. Alte Welt is a historical building and is very nicely taken care of. I have never had a bad experience with this bed and breakfast and hope all who cross it consider staying. It is truley a magical place to stay.

Alte Welt is a great B&B to stay at if you want to be downtown where all of the shops and resturants are.I had a wonderful stay.I loved the old victorian style decorations and it had a wonderful atmosphere in there. The outside hot tub on the deck was wonderful and private. The old claw foot tub was great as well.I loved how we could just walk out the front door and be so close to everything. It was very clean and smelled sooo goood!!!! I will be back!!!!!

My daughter and I stayed here last spring and it has taken me until now to get over it. If you want romantic, don't stay here. There must be a new owner since the two previous posts. It does have an old feel but it doesn't have to be down right depressing. There was something yellow running down the wall in the bedroom. The bath had a whole in the wall with toilet paper stuck in it. The only way to adjust the air was by moving the vents in the floor. The noise from the street below kept us from sleeping and you could hear everything, I mean everything from the room next door. The bed was so hard I wanted to sleep on the floor. I could go on but I won't. True, it is on the main street but plenty of nicer places that cost WAY less are only a block or two over. I have stayed at some. The picture is very decieving. We booked two nights and left after the first night.
