Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

From the minute we walked in we felt comfortable! Jess checked us in & obliged when we asked for a front facing room. She was super friendly & efficient. Car park is free you just register your car. Room was great, comfortable and a nice bathroom with shower & tub. The hotel restaurant is good, we thoroughly enjoyed dinner. Had a good restful night, no noise. Breakfast is hot or cold we only wanted toast & a latte. We were so pleased we found this little gem. Big shout out to Jess again & Amber who served our food. Fabulous stay for one night.

My dad stayed for the night here and invited me and my daughter to join him for breakfast. Upon entering the food area I noticed a lot of uncleared tables, a handful of tables with guests at, but no staff. I cleared a table for us to sit at. Went to check out food on offer, but there wasn't anything in hot plates. Waited for a staff member. Eventually found a young lady who said they were cooking and topping up the food. Helped myself to tea, which was rank, daughter wanted water, nothing to hand. As food came out, the other guests were on it amd nothing left for us. After half an hour we saw the young lady again. Explained we didn't have breakfast coz nothing left and that my daughter wanted some water. She apologised, as getting water another guest got her attention at the desk. Then she asked me what we would like. Upon this I asked questions. Turns out this young lady, Rebecca, was all on her own to deal with the desk, deal with guests, put out the breakfast, clear tables, wash up and cook the food!!!! Omg, I felt for her. M Rebecca made a tasty breakfast and was so sweet and apologetic (as though she was apologising for herself but it's not her, it's management who should be apologising). Management probably don't care. Majority of guests are probably only there for one night, they've got their money. Management: you should be ashamed of yourselves for being tight and not putting on more staff!!! One person can't do all that and shouldn't have too!!! Rebecca, you were so lovely and you made a yummy breakfast. You deserve a rise but better than that, you deserve an employer who appreciates you. To Rebecca, thank you. To Management, would not recommend this place.

Do not stay here. I have put ina complaint and still have not heard back from management. The bathroom was mouldy, severe black mould. Black sludge bathed my feet whilst showering, this came out of a pipe over hanging the bath. The shower rail fell down and the towel rail was dangerous. To top this off the extractor fan squeals extremely loudly but you need the light on as there is no window and this automatically turned it on. The walls are dirty and I even found a sticker in my bed explaining I had a single duvet cover. Cleanliness is not something the hotel can be proud of. Even the hallways are dirty. A note is left in the bedroom advising no rooms will be cleaned until you leave. My note had been there years. Now there is a lovely pub 5 minute walk from this place so I advise if you are unfortunate enough to have this hotel booked do not eat here. 2 nights running my food was awful and my steak was off. I did speak to someone when I was there and she made notes of my complaint and confirmed they had my contact details. After 1 week no response, spoke to the call centre but they can't help. Nobody answers the phone at the hotel either. I thinknits disgusting that thisnplace charged 230 GBP for 2 nights and I slept in complete dirt. There only concern was painting the conservatory

Parked for a few minutes to assist the person I had booked in. Eventually took them 20 minutes to explain what they needed. Result a £60.00 bill for parking my car. They certainly just lost all my visiting staff business. Hotel didn't smell that great either..... Just don't use them. The car park system is entrapment, and so full of holier than thou 'its legal' It may be, but barely

Room was inadequate really ..Rusty shower rail no drinking glasses..2 tea bags. Cleanliness was fine and bed comfortable.Breakfast at £12 was appalling ..by 8.45 there were the remnants of what was served in the heated lift top dishes, all of which were barely warm. Everything DIY , coffee was awful and orange juice more like squash. At £120 a night I would rather bank on the uniform standards of Premier Inn than this rather poor 3 star hotel ..

We got to the hotel, tried to check in, hubby had to find someone as the self checkin wasn't working, eventually he found someone, she pressed a few keys on the keyboard, said it will work now and went away before we could even say anything else. Room was right at the back of the hotel, the only good thing was it was away from all the noises from the front. Bathroom had no bins, towels looked as though they were just thrown on from a pile. I daren't even to take a shower from it, menu was very limited, and nothing I liked, so ent to a pub 5 mins walk from the hotel. Got in and went to sleep around 11pm. All night from 1:30am, all you could hear was men chatting and laughing outside the doorway until 3am! The breakfast was brilliant, that is if you like crucified bacon, tasteless scrambled eggs, boiled to death mushrooms and mystery cereal, as none had names on them and they were in plastic containers! Check out was self check out, we didn't stay for breakfast, went ro McDonald's instead, was more tasty! Bed and television size are great, everything else is a shamble, definitely will not stat there again!

We booked a standard double room so were pleasantly surprised when we were given an executive room. The bed was huge, and very comfortable. Seeing that it is an executive room: 1) there is no bin in bathroom. 2) bath needs to be longer, my partner of 6' 2" had trouble laying down in it. 3) there needs to be a ceiling light in both sections of the room. 4) where the sofa is, there is no light to read papers etc. 5) we waited about 45 minutes for our dinner to arrive. The restaurant wasn't busy at all, and the barmaid seemed to be manning reception too. She had a problem understanding my order - a lemonade with a dash of lime cordial, to which she gave me a glass of lemonade with a slice of lime. 6) there was no plug socket by the bed. 7) seeing the room was executive, there were no usb sockets in the room. 8) we were woken up at 6.45am on a Sunday morning by the laundry delivery guy moving all the laundry trolleys in and out of the lorry, right underneath our window! I understand that these guys have a job to do, but at 6.45am??!! 9) Breakfast - what a fiasco and shambles! No big plates to put breakfast on, no side plates for toast. No fried eggs, only remnants of pale scrambled eggs, no butter (and when it did arrive, you had to lean over the hot toaster to get to the bowl!). The bacon was cremated and hard, the toaster was on number 2, but one side came out burnt, hence you can smell burnt toast through the whole hotel! The coffee cups ran out. 10) someone's car alarm went off three times at 2am. Unfortunately, due to all the mishaps and lack of staff everywhere, the length of time waiting for dinner, we will not stay here again.

Arrived to find the (tiny) towels damp and had to hang them to dry before use One coffee mug had a hair in it, the other had a coffee stain inside The teaspoon had a coffee stain and fluff/hair The carpet had not been hoovered and bits of food and dirt everywhere The remote control is digustingly filthy The shower ceiling is mouldy along with other parts of the bath The shower head is rusty/mouldy and quite frankly made me feel ill looking at it The fan provided is covered in dust The bedding was somewhat damp Kettle is completely riddled with limescale Stains/marks/dirt pretty much everywhere The room in general smells of mould (perhaps due to the bathroom or the wet towels/bedding) I paid £85 per night for 2 nights at this hotel. £85 to hang their towels out to dry and wipe crumbs from under my feet. When asking for a full or partial refund they offered a complientary stay HAHA id rather sleep in my car and wont be in Colchester any time soon. Absolute joke that I still have no refund but will go to the BBB for assistance
