Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I recently stayed at Rushton Hall Hotel and had a fantastic experience. The rooms were impeccably clean and the bed comfy, and the staff went above and beyond with their friendliness and accommodation. Despite a busy breakfast, it was well-organised, and the food was delightfully hot – a rare treat in many hotels nowadays. Highly recommended for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Lovely relaxing spa break surrounded by peaceful countryside. Lots of historical interest in the building, comfortable and well appointed room, comfy bed, lovely spa facilities and fantastic food. Would highly recommend for a relaxing get away break.

I was reluctant to write a review of our stay as the hotel did try to make things better for us, but I felt I owed it to fellow travellers to let them know about my experience. My wife and I stayed here for our anniversary and had lunch, dinner and breakfast here. There were a couple of issues with our room due to requests not being passed to the hotel by Secret Escapes - fair enough, they were resolved once raised. However our dining experiences were stressful and really overshadowed our stay. We firstly had Sunday lunch - we’d informed the hotel weeks earlier that I was vegan and they said they could cater for me, we then reconfirmed this on arrival. I experienced a series of mix ups caused by a combination of neither the kitchen staff or the servers being entirely sure what was or wasn’t vegan and this left me losing all confidence in the food. I even had a desert whipped away from in front of me after one member of staff said it was vegan and then another said it wasn’t. As a result of our issues the manager offered us a complimentary dinner - again, I thought this was fair enough and gave them another try. At dinner when ordering I asked for non-dairy spread with my bread and was served butter - I asked this to be replaced and when it came back I was served with a roll instead. When I queried this the sever said it was because the bread ‘might’ have dairy in it (this was the bread I had at lunch). And so on… finally I was given the vegan desert options which included a pavlova.. by this point I was very suspicious of everything and questioned this, fully expecting to be served meringue made with egg whites… my hunch must’ve been correct as the server returned with sorbet. Breakfast went off with less drama, although it was more limited than a Premier Inn breakfast (yes, they charge £30 for it!). All in all, hugely disappointing and not at all relaxing. I have no problem at all if an establishment says that it does not cater for vegans (however this IS 2023 chaps!), but to say you do and are willing to take money on this basis you should deliver what is promised without having guests question everything placed before them. If I go to my local pub and order a vegan meal from the menu, that’s exactly what I get.. this isn’t rocket science!

Beautiful location and had really high expectations for their afternoon tea but was quite underwhelmed. We were greeted by a very helpful gentleman who showed us through to our table in the lounge/dining area when afternoon tea is served. It was a grand room which was nicely busy but not over-crowded. We had to wait about 15mins for service and the staff (all quite youthful) were lovely but throughout our afternoon, they were not very attentive or alert to people’s needs. The afternoon tea was very nice with a selection of traditional fingers sandwiches, plain & fruit scones, macaroons & a couple of other tasty sweet treats. Nothing spectacular or unique to any other afternoon tea. With staff not being very present in the room or regularly checking or the customers, it was difficult to get more drinks or pots of tea. It did feel like when you’d been served once, then that was it until you were ready to pay. The whole event was pleasant but nowhere near as special as I would have expected from such a fabulous setting and it seemed like afternoon tea is just a bit dated here.

We had a dinner in the Brasserie and I must say it was very disappointing. Let's start with the positive , hotel looks very impressive from the outside as well as the Great Hall. Food was good, nothing to rave about, but good. We turn up at 8pm for our 8pm reservation and was told to wait as table was not ready, 25 mins later we were taken to the restaurant where only 3 other couple were dining... our table was still set up for 4 rather than 3 and additional setting stayed with us throught all dinner, not sure why we had to wait in the first place if table still wasn't set up correctly. Person who served us, we later learned it was manager in charge, was not interested at all in providing a good service , we were not offered additional drinks and empty glasses were left on the table throught the dinner , service was not pleasant nor attentive , when I asked to remove service charge there was not even a question how was the meal or anything. Waitress was stocking up the bar and pushed rattling trolley through the restaurant making a lot of noise and then 10 mins later went back with it ! Bread was so terrible we send it back. Overall I cannot recommend this place to anyone.

We loved our experience at Rushton hall! We booked one of the event rooms for my cousins birthday and we had the most fantastic time! Literally every single staff member was such a delight and so friendly. From the initial booking with the conference and events team to the moment we walked in - We were treated so well and everyone was so lovely and helpful. The place was absolutely so beautiful with such lovely views- I would definitely do another event here! What made our time there even better was also a lovely lady called Jodie! We asked her to take pictures of us and She was just so great. She took her time, picked us a nice spot for our pictures, and took the pictures as if they were her own! She was so lovely, funny and warm and made us feel so good! Thank you Jodie! All of this, had us saying we would love to come back to Rushton Hall. Thanks again Rushton Hall for such a lovely time , it would be a delight to come again!

Photos below illustrates the content of the bath if not the accompanying smell into which we planned to bathe some 45 minutes prior to our dining arrangements. The response from the later attending Sales Manager was more shocking than the bath content. The timing of this experience not unnaturally precluded acceptance of the offered alternative room. However, rather than being apologetic and understanding of the situation, her response was combative and blatantly rude. Her proposition was that we should pack our bags, defer our dining arrangements and move room without consideration for the possible consequences for us as her guests. We were in fact to attend a surprise Birthday dinner which would have been wrecked by such a move. We were further informed that responsibility for the water quality was Anglian Water to whom there was some suggestion we should perhaps direct any complaint. A very unsatisfactory response that was compounded by the failure of the hotel General Manager to make what would have been the courteous and promised contact. On a more positive note, an excellent dinner in the Tresham Restaurant that was produced with care, skill and imagination, with the exception of the fish that was overcooked; - a shame as Halibut is unforgiving of such misjudgement.

We booked for bonfire night, we weren't sure what it was going to be like. What an amazing time we had. On arrival we had a glass of prosecco, then we sat in the bar and had another drink and then moved into the Library for our meal. We had three courses which we had pre ordered. Every course was exceptional and the service was also faultless. After the meal we then moved outside to watch the fireworks. The pathways were light with candles which really created the bonfire atmosphere. The fireworks were amazing and we all said the best we have seen, they seemed to go on for ages. Would definitely recommend the bonfire night at this special venue. Its not cheap but you get what you pay for .
