Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The hotel is nice. Beds were comfy, shower good. It could use a refresh, as others have stated. But it was clean. Pool was warm. It's a small pool but good enough for a stretch. They had a good sized work out room. Breakfast is the typical Hampton breakfast. Nothing to write home about but you could get enough decent food to keep you going. The hotel is literally a couple blocks from the Amtrak stop. Very convenient when arriving late by train. Staff are very friendly.

Hotel's Favourite
As a Hilton Honors Diamond member for many years, I enjoy staying in different properties across the Hilton portfolio. I also travel exclusively by Amtrak, and with St. Albans being the end of the line, having any Hilton family hotel so close to the station is a big plus for me. A long planned trip finally brought me to t his property earlier this week. While yes it's a bit pricey, we're also in a period of inflation and now recession so I dealt with it. Thinking of it as more points to earn so that I can stay elsewhere for free (or a re-visit here) made it much better. As always with Hilton properties, I did an online check-in the day before and chose my room. Hilton encourages members to skip the front desk and go directly to their rooms with the digital key. I figured on returning later to get my water and snack. However, as what I believe is a cost saving measure, upon entering my room with the digital key, I found that a plastic card is necessary if one wants electric power. So in the dark I left my luggage and returned downstairs to the desk. This was my only nit, that had I known of this I would have stopped at the front desk upon arrival. This defeats the purpose of the digital key, so perhaps the electricity could be re-worked to also activate with one's phone. Back at the desk I was greeted and I explained what had happened. The staff was very friendly and professional, and I was welcomed and my status was recognized. Back in my room now with lights and TV, I found there to be ample space for my belongings and a comfortable desk and chair to work on my computer. The bathroom was bright and also had good counter space for my toiletries. No issues hot water for my morning shower. I did have a good sleep and woke up refreshed. Breakfast was everything that can be expected from a Hampton Inn. I had plenty of scrambled eggs to sustain myself until a late afternoon meal on the train. Check-out was as professional as check-in, and when I mentioned I was departing on Amtrak, I was even reminded of its 9:15 AM departure time with a smile. Being near a train track, one can expect to hear train horns. While Amtrak is only there twice a day, freight trains do use the line as well so there might be other sounds. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and should I take this trip again I would definitely stay at the property again.... and check-in in person.

We have family members in a nearby town and returned to the hotel after having stayed at the Hampton Inn St. Albans previously. The staff is friendly and proficient. The room was spotlessly clean, the king bed comfortable, and the fifth-floor room pleasantly quiet.

Stayed here for a night with my family and couldn’t be more happier. Hotel is modern, clean, excellent staff and great location. Parking garage is adjacent to hotel and easy to access. Your parking will be validated. Breakfast had plenty of options - very good. But the pool - WARMEST water ever. Absolutely phenomenal. Thank you Hampton inn for a great stay!

Quaint hotel in charming downtown St. Albans. Arrived around 7PM and was promptly greeted and checked in. One minor hiccup, the keycard machine wasn’t working. But the front desk staff were prompt in finding us a resolution to get us into the room. Room was clean and fairly modern. Starting to show a bit of wear, but it is a 5 year old property at this point. AC was heavenly during a Vermont heatwave. Had a good and quiet sleep! Wi-Fi was free and although a bit challenging to connect to, it was quite fast. I found cell reception to be very spotty in St. Albans. Parking is behind the hotel in the municipal lot. It costs $3 for hotel guests. Be sure to bring your ticket into the front desk so they can get you the discounted rate. Also, there is free EV charging in the lot. Great stay. Thank you.

Very disappointed with this Hampton Inn. I had just stayed at a Hampton Inn the week before in Media, PA which was lovely and was less expensive than the one in St. Albans, VT (if anything, the latter should have offered lower rates given the location is so much less desirable and popular). The parking at the St. Albans location was entirely unclear and there was no sign indicating instructions to park in the public lot behind the hotel. Doing so, required a relatively long walk with luggage and multiple trips. In short, this was a major hassle. Also, the parking garage was covered in pigeon poop which was just gross. The snacks for sale next to the front desk did not offer frozen entrees as the one in Media did which meant without venturing out (which I did not want to do on a rainy night), there was no dinner option available for me. In addition, there were the sounds of trains intermittently heard very prominently outside of my hotel window. The wifi cut out during my business call. And there was a clump of hair on the bathroom floor from the previous guest. I would strongly not recommend this Hampton Inn. In addition, it was not immediately off of the highway but required a drive into downtown to reach. For a rate of $250, this experience was totally unacceptable.

Response from Maureen Brown, General Manager at Hampton Inn St. Albans
Responded 17 Jun 2023
I am terribly sorry for your experience at our hotel. We use all reviews and comments to improve the services we provide for our guests. Unfortunately, some of what was an issue for you is somewhat out of our control. I am in constant contact with the City with regards to the garage and will absolutely give them feedback regarding your experience. Admittedly we did have an issue with the freezer and had to remove frozen items from the treat shop, however, we do have soup and other non-frozen options available. I am sorry if those options were not something that would work for you. In addition, many restaurants are in walking distance or will also deliver. Our hotel is located walking distance to the Amtrak station as well. St. Albans is actually known as "The Rail City". I completely understand if train activity is something you are not used to and how it could be disturbing. In general, it does seem that our downtown location was the biggest issue and I understand if we did not meet your needs in that respect. We would welcome the opportunity to host you again should you revisit St. Albans and will do our best to make your stay as comfortable and quiet as possible.

Average place to stay. The hotel is about 6 years old, but seems more run down than I would think for the age. The room had wear and stains. Bathroom not well cleaned. Pubic hairs from previous customers in bathroom when we arrived. The mattress wasn't comfortable. Trains pass close by all times in the middle of the night and early in the morning. Train whistles woke me up multiple times every morning. Other reviewers commented on friendly staff, but we didn't experience that. The staff we dealt with were really disinterested.

Response from Maureen Brown, General Manager at Hampton Inn St. Albans
Responded 3 May 2023
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at our property. We use surveys and reviews to improve the services we provide. While we cannot control train noise, we absolutely can control the other issues you have noted. Unfortunately, it is not possible to pinpoint the exact room you found the issues in unless you brought it up to the front desk. If you did not inform someone prior to your departure I would greatly appreciate more information on what room you stayed in so we can follow up. I am truly sorry you did not experience what the majority of our guests do with regards to our team, but I do appreciate the feedback and hope you will consider visiting us again the next time you are in the St. Albans area.

Check in adequate. Parking Easy. Room was Hampton standard but could use a refresh (Stains, etc). Breakfast typical for a Hampton. Shower good for a tall person but there was mildew around the edges. Got a 2 pm check out as a Diamond but the hotel was stingy about granting it - this is more a reflection on the Hilton brand which is not competitive with this policy. Marriott offers 4 PM checkout without question at virtually all brands.

Room was clean but I forgot my valet bag, hotel had none of the usual items in the bathroom except soap and none anywhere in the hotel. Had to shop for toothbrush/past/shampoo & cond/ etc. Housekeeping only available if you ask before 8 am on the day needed, cannot find them in halls as usual. Saw them once in the hallway during week, none on weekends. Had to park in back parking garage which was VERY sketchy, homeless people and dumpsters and some lights out. I didn't feel safe being a woman alone. No foods for allergy sufferers, gluten and dairy. Plenty of Cabot butter and milk and cream, Maybe VT isn't as progressive with the oat milk, almond milk, gluten free options etc, But the mold on the bagel was the icing on the cake

Dear Cathy D, I can't apologize enough for what you experienced during your visit to our hotel. We easily should have addressed almost everything you experienced had you spoken to the front desk. Our housekeeping staff is on every day, but they travel from floor to floor. I am sorry you were not able to catch one of them, but the front desk staff is available 24/7 and should have been able to assist you. I have left you a voicemail as I would like to discuss your stay in detail. I appreciate the feedback and hope to speak with you soon!

Not a lot of choices in St Albans so I was fearful that this was the only option not necessarily the best. I was wrong. Old building with a modern hotel inside. Super polite and helpful staff. Clean rooms. Parking garage ($3/day) adjacent to the property. Smack dab in the middle of town. Yes - I will be back.
