This restaurant use to be our very favorite place to spend a relaxing couple hours in the afternoon and always to bring out of town guests for a delicious lunch. The food was exceptional ! Not anymore, I am sad to say! In July we brought out of town family and were so disappointed in the food, new menu and... More

Our apologies for not meeting your expectations, and we will do better; however, I want to clarify some of the issues you raised. The restrooms are cleaned and refreshed every two hours and the toilet paper holders hold two rolls -- while it may appear one is out, there's another one right above it. The deck and patio are cleaned... More

The dining room is an amazing space - excellent design and airiness. The service is great and the steaks make your mouth water. Be sure to save room for the carrot cake! If the weather is cool, then the rear patio seating is great. There's entertainment on some evenings as well in the bar.

We booked the Wakefield Suite for a Monday - Wednesday stay, and thoroughly enjoyed the room, the service, and the restaurant. The grounds are well maintained and it is especially interesting to wander the garden and see the makings for your evening salad - one of the tastiest in recent memory. There are plenty of options if you don't want... More

I visit the Pubic House several times a year, and it has been at the top of my favorites list. However, lunch there yesterday left a lot to be desired. The menu has changed and does not have as many options as previously. My grilled chicken sandwich was mediocre, the potato salad was delicious but had way too many onions.... More

Thanks for your feedback. I am sorry that the food was not to your liking. Did you or anyone bring it to the attention of your server, and if so, what was the resolution? Yes, the menu has changed, apparently several times since your last visit. The original eight-page menu (from four years ago) was too expansive for our kitchen... More

We thoroughly enjoyed the Amissville room (it's the only room in the inn without a sofa but there is a sitting chair and in the upstairs living room there are sofas and a keurig machine). Although it wasn't clear on the website, breakfast IS included, and they even gave us a complimentary bottle of local white wine at check in.... More

We spent a lovely weekend in Flint Hill. There are only 4 rooms at Flint Hill Public House and they are very nice. TV satellite reception was not good while we were there however we enjoyed the outdoors as the weather was so nice. Bed was comfortable, wish I had brought my pillow. Breakfast is included, 2 eggs, meat, potatoes... More

I came to this restaurant many, many years ago, and I recall it to be quite excellent back then. I returned with my girlfriend recently and was no disappointed. I can see how some reviewers were disconcerted by the choice of décor, one has a mental image of what a rural 'Public House' would look like, and this one sheds... More

I took my extended family to the Flint Hill Public House last Friday evening to celebrate a special occasion. There was only four of us and we made a reservation for 7PM; when we arrived both main dining rooms were near empty which should have been a red flag to us. The restaurant staff were all very nice which makes... More

Thanks for your feedback. Not sure what date you came, but most people sit outside on our patio this time of year. We have just changed chefs, so the food you received was the end of one chef's tenure and apologize for the lack of quality and consistency. We are in the process of creating a children's menu, but can... More

I hate to write this , but the Public House is no longer a place I enjoy. They have recently gone thru a lot of Management change as well as trying to get a Menu that works for the area. My wife and I went on a Monday night. We were the only people there. The service was so odd....... More

How you were treated is not consistent with how we run our business and I apologize for the server's inattention. We are in the process of transitioning to feature steaks and the menu, while new, should have been well known to the server. My apologies and hope you will give us another try soon. More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
More than 100 years of history..Perched on a hill above the namesake village it overlooks, Flint Hill Public House & Country Inn is a large white house that is hard to miss. The building is a former schoolhouse that has been a fixture in the area for more than 100 years. In the early 1900s, a one-room schoolhouse was moved from the premises to make room for a new school called the Flint Hill School. Built in 1906, the new school was instrumental in educating Rappahannock County children until 1960, when the property was sold and became a private residence. In 1986, the schoolhouse/residence was sold and renovated and opened as The School House Restaurant. In 1992, the restaurant operation was leased as The Flint Hill Public House until it closed in 2008. In June 2011, new owners purchased the property and undertook an extensive renovation and redesign, hiring noted Washington, DC, architect Ernesto Santalla. The complete renovation took the building down to the bare walls and included moving an interior stairwell to the outside to accommodate four luxury suites on the expansive second floor. The new Flint Hill Public House & Country Inn opened in early 2012 – ready for another 100 years as a local landmark and gathering place. ... more   less
