Second time here, and shocked at reviews, maybe it has went down hill but no as I remembered, the Resort. C cabins are the biggest and priced at 700 baht, big room (peak time) big shower area and sweet balcony we used as sun came up, recommend not to when darkness falls as mosquitoes come out to play and the jungle gets noisy, but its a noise we liked. The staff dont know a lot of English but are helpful, the front seating area for drinks and a Thai Cafe next door is OK for an hour, there are better down the road at White sands and 3 times the price across the road there is a good laundry and ironing service and bike hire, not linked to the resort but a benefit, taxi run regular and the resort will run you down to beach in basic tuk tuk if you ask, the man never charged us. there is a smell in shower area its clean so maybe plumbing, we bought some strong bleach and problem solved, furniture is a little dated but practical safe in room sometimes we never used but nothing went missing so tip for the maids who were in every day.

We ended up here for one night after arriving on Koh Chang a day early and finding our chosen hotel full. They recommended the nearby SSP Bungalow so, given the time of day, we took up the offer. For a double room & a twin room we were quoted 1500 Baht which seemed a lot so we decided to haggle with the resort seeming extremely empty. It took a good ten minutes for the staff to admit that there was a 300 baht deposit on each room that we could claim back the next day & another ten minutes the next day & the intervention of another guest to get them to admit to this & refund the money. The rooms themselves are extremely basic with bed linen actually just being a large towel! Underneath one of the beds was a pizza box filled with what looked like rat poison - given the two inch gap at the foot of the main door I imagine this is a bit of a necessity. The flooring & bathroom appear to be varnished over concrete which leaves a very sticky surface. Overnight howling dogs, a common feature in SE Asia, contribute to a poor sleep. The bungalows themselves appear to still be under construction at the back so expect noise during the day. You're also at least a ten minute walk from the beach and the nearby bars are all pretty sleazy 'mini-Pattaya' types. It may get better here once they've finished construction but until then I'd stay well clear unless you have no other options.
