Extremely unprofessional company. We had a holiday booked for Dec 2021 however the French borders were closed so we were allowed to roll over our trip to Dec 2022 if DM could keep our money. We agreed to this, however July this year DM emailed to say they no longer have the chalet and to keep our reservation we needed to pay 35% more. Obviously, we were not going to do this and asked for our money back. The entire process of getting a refund was painful and took weeks of back and forth. We were refunded over £1000 short of what we originally paid. Be very careful of using this company!

Response from Harry Bygraves, Owner at Chalet La Chouette

Thanks for posting up - it's important that people get to hear all experiences of us, both good and bad. This is a public forum so if I may I'd like to highlight a few parts for others reading. Firstly we refunded you in full. We are a French company and our prices are in euros. Our promise to you was that we would refund that number of euros in full, which we did. The exchange rate changed in the mean time which is the source of any difference by the time that's converted that back to sterling. Also we did not increase our prices by 35%. We no longer have the chalet you were due to stay in last year. The new company who have taken over the chalet are charging more than us, which is out of our control. The comparison is between our prices for last season and someone else's prices for this season. We did suggest alternative chalets with other companies for you at the same price point. It is not easy to find like-for-like though due to the inflation that's out there, and understandably none worked for you. We certainly did try to help though. I hope this helps others reading to understand the situation. Finally although never pleasant, we really do appreciate the openness in hearing the criticism too, thank you. It's good for us to hear. We clearly have not covered ourselves in glory with our communication here in particular, and have lessons to learn. Thank you.

What an incredible week I had Chalet La Chouette! I have stayed with other standard chalets companies in Meribel over the years, and thought I'd treat myself to Delicious Mountain this year. The service I received during my stay was absolutely exceptional! The staff were outstanding, incredibly friendly and would go out of their way to ensure your stay was perfect. The breakfast, canapés and dinners were just fantastic, to the point I watched what I was eating in the day to ensure I could enjoy the food back at the chalet! The views from the chalet and hottub were incredible, just adding to a first class chalet! I will absolutely be coming back, a 5 star stay! Massive thanks to the team for a tremendous holiday!

We stayed at Chalet La Chouette in early December 2021 and we were amazed immediately! We were welcomed by a warm fire, a glass of champagne, the other guests who had already arrived, and of course the wonderful Harry alongside his awesome team. This set the tone for the full week! Each morning started with a wonderful breakfast spread, continental and cooked on request. Freshly baked bread and pastries every morning. Before travelling, I pre-warned Harry that I am dairy intolerant which I thought might be a big issue in France but I was reassured that I would be catered for. I never felt left out with all the beautiful food, Dylan even made delicious milk free pancakes with bacon and maple syrup for breakfast one morning, YUM!!! After each day of skiing (or apres skiing!!) we were welcomed back to the chalet with afternoon tea comprising of a savoury and a sweet option with a lovely cup of tea or coffee. At around 7pm each evening we were served canapés which were delicious, some of our favourites were the sweetcorn waffle and the mini bloody marys! After the canapés we were served a three course dinner with wine that was perfectly paired with the food each night. The food was always delicious, we couldn't pick a favourite meal but the duck was AWESOME as was the roast beef on the Sunday evening! We often talk about how delicious it was a cannot wait to come again this year to experience it all again. Overall the food and wine was fantastic, we couldn't have asked for more. We were also really impressed with the accommodation, our rooms were really cosy and clean. The views from our rooms were amazing, every morning after we opened the curtains we were wowed. It is a view you could never tire of. The rooms were always really toasty and warm which was well received after coming back chilly from the mountains. The L'Occitane products that were in the bathroom were a little luxurious surprise and smelt beautiful! The team that work and run the chalet were a fantastic group, always happy to help and were really friendly. Harry even helped us book and get our covid testing sorted as the rules changed during our stay, nothing was too much of a problem! Overall, we had an amazing holiday. Everything and more had been thought about from the food and wine to being offered lifts into town and back. We were impressed with everything and we can't wait to come and stay again very soon! Thank you for a great time guys!!

This was our first time skiing for a few years and we decided to treat ourselves. We were not disappointed! The chalet was large, warm and very comfortable. We had 2 pairs of hosts over the week and we thought Dylan and Garance in particular, were outstanding. Dylan is a great chef who takes real pride in his food. The only thing in addition we would have liked was a large cake at tea time! The hot tub with its views was a great addition at the end of the day. Always hot and ready with a good supply of drinks nearby. Great pick up and drop off service to the slopes. Might be helpful to pick up from 3pm for those that want a slightly earlier finish? A big thank you to Harry for being so accommodating with our daughter which made the holiday for us. We would definitely return!

I stayed in Chalet La Chouette with my family for a week at the end of January. We were very excited for this holiday as we had never stayed in a 'luxury' chalet before so it was a real treat. The chalet itself was lovely and we especially enjoyed the hot tub with views over the slopes. We thought the pickup service was great and the dinners were delicious. Unfortunately, a lot was not as advertised. We were expecting to walk into the chalet to find afternoon tea laid out for our arrival, as it was advertised online as being provided 7 days a week. Unfortunately this was not the case, which was gutting as we were starving after travelling all day! Sadly, this theme of things not living up to expectation continued throughout the week. I also felt that one of the hosts really did not do much of a job at 'hosting'. Quite often when we came down for breakfast the kettle and the coffee machine would both be empty of water - I know it's not hard to fill it up myself however when you pay for 'luxury' service you do expect little things like that to be done. She didn't make much effort with conversation and I felt she was often in too much of a rush to finish the breakfast shift so she could get out skiing, rather than concentrating on giving us good service .Breakfast in general was generally disappointing, as we'd expected a variety of hot options (as advertised online) but instead were only ever offered bacon and eggs or porridge. On the whole, we did all enjoy our stay but when you go somewhere with high expectations and are met with an experience that doesn't quite offer what it says online, you'll always be somewhat disappointed.

A truely magical stay with old friends and new. New to delicious mountain this winter we were truely blown away. The exceptional service provided is second to none and that extra touch goes a long way! I felt I didn’t even have to think for myself. The hosts, chefs and drivers were great and really went the extra mile! The views especially from the hot tub are incredible. The food is to die for!! We will certainly be back, thank you Harry, Dylan, Victoria, Garance, Louisa and Sam!

A Wonderful Stay Staff were very friendly and lifts to and from the slopes was a excellent service . Amazing food especially the duck and chocolate tart plus the scotch eggs at afternoon tea was a great hit. Hot tub with the cool box of drinks was so enjoyable after a day of skiing. A turn down service and water put in your room while you were enjoying a delicious meal was a lovely touch. Best snow we had seen in years which only made the stay even more enjoyable. Hope to be back again soon x

We stayed in Chalet La Chouette for a week at the end of January and were so looking forward to what was described as ‘the number one catered chalet that Meribel has to offer’ with descriptions of full afternoon tea 7 days a week, a daily special served alongside bacon and eggs for breakfast, amazing food and many other delights. Things didn’t start well from the moment we arrived on the Saturday afternoon (having been travelling all day) hungry and looking forward to a delicious afternoon tea (which the DM website clearly states is provided for the full 7 days and is the norm for every other chalet we’ve stayed in over many years) only to be told that tea was not provided on arrival day. No reason was given for this and none of us could understand why it was not possible to provide a simple cake and some bread & jam to welcome us on arrival, particularly when we have all had a very long day and had expected to be greeted with a tea laid out for us. Sadly the tea for the rest of the week was somewhat disappointing. There was very rarely bread and jam (2 out of 6 days), just some small individual cakes (or flapjack or cookie on other days) and a savoury choice although this was rarely vegetarian which meant that the 2 vegetarians in the party, despite being well catered for at dinner, couldn’t eat them. The whole chalet group felt disappointed that there was never a whole ‘proper’ cake at tea time, just these very small individual portions which, whilst nice, were not enough and often dry as they’d been left uncovered for much of the day. We all hankered after a big chocolate cake or even something like the cakes that were described on the website – none of which we ever saw. Evening meals were very good although the promised cheese board had to be asked for during the first few days, it certainly wasn’t something that was automatically offered until later in the week and we got the impression that they’d have preferred us to forget about it so that they finish earlier for the evening. The wine was excellent and we really enjoyed trying so many different varieties. Breakfast was quite possibly the worst chalet breakfast we’ve had in many years of chalet holidays. Porridge lukewarm and so thick that you could wallpaper your house with it and with honey poured over the top of it as standard, whether you liked it or not. The bacon and eggs were OK if one particular chef provided them (although we were surprised that the eggs were not poached properly, ie dropped into boiling water) but the other chef (they rotated) did not provide one egg to anyone in the chalet that was not totally overcooked, whether poached, fried or boiled. She also seemed to think that pouring powdered paprika over the eggs prior to serving was something we’d all like. She was wrong. No special was ever offered (although the website stated it was provided daily alongside bacon and eggs) and when this was queried, we were told it was stopped last year due to excessive wastage – hard to believe and if this is the case, why is it still shown on the website? The bacon and eggs were just that, nothing additional such as mushrooms, tomatoes, hash browns until the day before we left when one of our party requested them and they dutifully appeared (why did they have to be asked for when other chalet companies who are considerably cheaper than DM, provide them as standard with every breakfast?) however they were so covered in salt and dried herbs, they were virtually inedible. The fruit bowl was a very sad sight – a few golden delicious apples and some rather sad satsumas but nothing like the picture of the bright and full fruit bowl shown on the website. The concierge service offered by DM is great with lifts to and from the slopes prompt and efficient and it all worked very well every day. The hot tub (and cool box full of beer/wine close by) were also great and well used and appreciated by everyone. The cinema room is just a room with a large TV in it, no cinema type screen as shown on the website and no information as to how to access anything through it. In summary, Chalet La Choutette is a nice chalet (although I would certainly not describe it as luxury, particularly as the first staircase I went down to get to the bedrooms had considerable threadbare patches on each stair!) but it is absolutely not worth the money we paid. There are many other chalet companies offering better chalets, better food and more accurate websites for less money.

I stayed there from the 4th of December 2021 for a week. It was the first week of the season and there was nothing wrong at all with the stay - remarkeble as they did have new staff and of course you would expect that they needed to get into the swing first. Its a perfect place and the staff could not be more helpful - I stayed in the past in 5 Star hotels in Austria & France in some resorts but this is for certain the Best. You feel like be part of it all and the pure luxery of this place could not be topped. Food was out of this world, friendly staff , quick into to town , whirl pool & sauna ,,,,,,heaven !!!
