We truly enjoyed our stay at Vignamaggio. Chianti is so magical and this place is so relaxing. The staff were supper friendly and helpful. The restaurant food was great. We also did a vineyards tour, which was great and informative. At the end of the tour we did the 5 course tasting menu with wine paring and it was fantastic....

We booked and enjoyed a long leisurely lunch being one of the best meals for years. Cooked on the premises fresh, the 4 of us enjoyed great food and superb wine with the center piece being the 2010 Monna Lisa, named as such with the location reputed to be the birthplace of Mona Lisa. The vine year is in the...

From our first day at Vignamaggio, I have been planning our return there. Every view looks like a painting or a movie set - almost too beautiful to be real. There are wonderful places to sit outside and take in those vistas. It is hard to leave to explore other places and you don't have to. The restaurant produces delicious...

To be honest we did not have a chance to enjoy the grounds as we would leave in the morning to explore different towns and return at night time. But with that said... The GOOD: The wine made in the premises is outstanding. Be ready to take some home. The grounds are beautiful and the Villa is very romantic. We...

Dear Vlad22, thank you for your detailed review. It's true, some of our rooms have no a&c. The next time don't hesitate to ask for a room change at our desk office. The wifi in the rooms is a big problem that we are trying to solve, we apologize for this. And also for the loud lovers! We wish you...

This is the 14th century villa where the movie Much Ado About Nothing was filmed (at least, the external scenes), a renaissance jewel with its own legacy winemaking facilities for which their well organised tour (the staff spoke fluent English) and wine tasting lunch would be a pity to miss. To say it has character would be a gross understatement:...

And I continue to return. A true gem in the Italian countryside. Vignamaggio is a wonderful place to be. The grounds are absolutely breathtaking. Walk around the gardens overlooking the vineyards, beautiful vistas overlooking one of my favorite little mountains in Tuscany. If you are staying at Vignamaggio you must go to Ristoro di Lamole for lunch or dinner....another all...

We did not stay at the main villa which was nice as half of the rooms there were undergoing refurbishment. We had lovely room upstairs. It is fantastically located offering beautiful surroundings like well kept garden and nearby hills. Very basic buffet breakfast. Good spot for stay and drive around Chianti. I wish they offered a free small bottle of...

Wow. Arrived in Italy on red-eye from US, check-in was smooth- three hours prior to the pre-arranged tour of the grounds, wine tasting and 4 course dinner/wine pairing. The tour was fantastic. Wine making, Chianti, black rooster, Mona Lisa, wine cellar built in 1300's. Such humble pride in the history of the area. The dinner/wine pairing at Vignamaggio was like...

After watching the film 'Much ado about nothing' and doing the research, I was sooo excited to be staying at Vignamaggio for part of our 30th Wedding Anniversary tour of Tuscany. There is no doubt that the Villa its self is quite beautiful and the scenery absolutely stunning but apart from that the hotel is fairly average. ROOMS Our accommodation...

When (not it) we come back to Tuscany, we will definitely stay at Vignamaggio again. Our room in the smaller buildings was wonderful with a private outdoor space. Very relaxing and beautiful setting. The winery tour was a highlight because we got to see part of the original palatial building. I would have liked to have seen more of the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Half way between Florence and Siena, the estate extends for over 200 hectares in the hills of the Chianti region. Vignamaggio overlooks a countryside landscape, of forests, vineyards and ancient hamlets scattered about on the surrounding hills. At the core of the farm is the Renaissance villa, surrounded by Italian style gardens, which fill the spaces between rows of cypresses, vines and olive trees. A working farm since 1404, Vignamaggio has been cultivating the vines and producing wine for over 600 years. Open to the public since 1987, the historical dwelling offers first class accommodation with rooms, suites and apartments in the estate's farmhouses. ... more   less
