In the Heart of Douro Valley's Demarcated Wine Region, considered World Heritage by UNESCO, you will find the The Vintage House - Douro, a 5 star luxury hotel overlooking the Douro river. In fact, when you get there you won't believe how close to the water it actually is. Once in your room, your first instinct will be to walk to the balcony to take in the unique landscape before you, already thinking how wonderful it will be to have lunch in the restaurant esplanade, making the best of the view. At night, after a meal in the award-winning "Rabelo" Restaurant, chat the night away with your friends in the "Library Bar", sipping a nice Port Wine.

I am not sure I will be able to give the deserved credit to this hotel when I describe it, but I will try.

Mouth dropping. Impressive. Lovely.

We arrived from Lisbon at the Pinhão train station on a hot day and, due to its closeness to The Vintage House, we decided to roll our luggage ourselves in the direction of the hotel not realizing how challenging the task would become on those cobblestone roads! As we entered the hotel courtyard -laden with beautiful bougainvillea above our heads, one of their employees (so sorry I forgot his name, tall, thin, dark hair and a beautiful smile), rushed to our aid and took our luggage. Thank goodness! From that point on, it was a PERFECT stay! A beautiful property! We met very professional, efficient, and helpful staff at the reception desk. We proceeded to our suite and, OMG, it was huge! Comfort at its best! Very high ceilings throughout the suite. It had a VERY large bathroom with a fully enclosed large double shower, his and her sinks well spaced over a very large marble countertop with plenty of space for my husband's and my toiletries, a tray with all sorts of amenities and top quality toiletries, a huge bathtub, plenty of towels, two upholstered chairs - one placed at each end of the bathroom, plenty of lighting plus natural lighting filtering through a window, and adjacent to this huge bathroom, there was a separate/private ample room with a toilet and another sink and plush towels. We had a full size living room, with a "coffee corner" with all provisions, a medium size dining room, and our sleeping area was rather ample as well with a very comfortable king size bed and a night table at each side. There were 2 double-doors closets with one of them including a safe and a mini fridge, the other had plenty of hangers and fluffy robes and slippers placed beautifully on a rack. Lots of windows providing lots of natural lighting throughout the suite and as I said before, very tall ceilings. Last but not least, a lovely balcony overlooking the Douro river. High class everywhere! Absolutely gorgeous facility surrounded buy plenty of greenery, floral plants, tall pines, well manicured courtyards, and a lovely pool area. Just beautiful!

Highly recommend staying at The Vintage House!

We had an exquisite stay at the wonderful Vintage House Hotel. Already the Reservation with Sara went perfectly organized, she has provided us with a really attractive "all-round carefree package". We had a lovely suite with Douro view and small balcony. Unfortunately, the pool was already really fresh at the end of September. That’s why we preferred to warm up with a cocktail on the Library Bar terrace (evenings with atmospheric live music). The dinner was great, the young service crew on the move. Especially the sommelier convinced with his knowledge and recommended us exquisite local wines, which we ourselves would not have come up with. In the room you sometimes hear a little rumbling of trains from the nearby station, but all not a big annoying factor. This place can be easily recommended!

We were a little apprehensive after reading so many unflattering reviews and were expecting a dilapidated crumbling hotel with shoddy service. What a revelation! The building is fantastic, the grounds amazing and the location would struggle to be beaten. Yes the building is old. If you want something sleek modern and contemporary look elsewhere, if you want old world elegance, charm and character look no further, this hotel has it in spades.

The staff were attentive, pleasant, professional and extremely helpful. everything was beautifully looked after and maintained.

We had no problem at all with the air conditioning (we stayed in September and it was very warm) and had no issue with the hotel wifi, which we used throughout our two night stay.

The hotel was full we were told on checking in, but at no time did it feel crowded, in fact it was peaceful wherever we went in the hotel to sit and enjoy the scenery, a drink or food.

Breakfast was excellent, a wide selection to choose from, buffet style, with fresh foods regularly brought out right up to the end of service.

If arriving by train, be aware that you can access The Vintage House grounds directly from the train station platform - look for the gate in the wall, and save walking all the way around (not that it’s a long way, it is right next door, but why drag your bags any further than you have to, right?)

Our only disappointment was that we had booked a ‘gastronomic experience’ . I definitely would not do that again. We did indeed receive the promised three courses with wine selection each night, but were disappointed and a little let down that we did not have the choice of the full menu, we were given a ‘special’ menu with very few choices, and two glasses of wine each, a white with our starter and a red with our main. House wine presumably, the same whatever food you ordered so not exactly a wine pairing. Not really a ‘gastronomic’ experience at all, and on the second night we had exactly the same menu with the same limited offering.

Our fault for not checking before booking this package.

We heartily recommend The Vintage House, and would not hesitate to stay again, and respectfully suggest that some of the reviewers should have spent more time enjoying the stunning river view rather than looking at any faded carpeting in their rooms.

Our biggest disappointment though - not staying longer! Thank you for a memorable stay, we hope to return one day and explore the area more thoroughly.

The views are what makes this hotel 5-star for sure. We had a typical room with a beautiful river view and a US king sized bed. The hotel is definitely a bit older and the room is showing its age - there are small chips across the wood and the pillows and chairs are a bit worn, but the rainshower is a wonderful feature and the bathroom is a nice big size.

We heard the breakfast was not good so we didn't want to pay the absurd amount of 23 euro per person per day and instead got pasteries at a local coffee shop for under 5 euro. I wish the pool was of swimming temperature because it was beautiful, but I'm sure it's lovely in the summer.

We thought the staff was OK - no major complaints but we didn't interact with them often. I do really recommend staying in the Douro for a few nights as opposed to taking a day trip from Porto - we really enjoyed the slower pace and relaxing feel of the small town of Pinhao.

Also, free parking is a WIN!

Clearly not 5 star
Let's start with check in ... no bell staff , fine, We can carry our luggage
But the room while nice size is rather shabbily appointed, the love seat and chair are faded, worn and stained. The bathroom has no amenities, 1 bar of soap and no towel racks; so when you use 1 there is no place to put it but on the shower door or floor.
There is no mirror in the bathroom so no place to do makeup etc.
Our room wasn't cleared until after 1:30 pm
And then no new clean dry towels were left. I had to call the front desk and request towels.
Breakfast was inedible with runny eggs, undercooked bacon and fruit that looked like it's seen better days, granted we went at 9:45 and they quit serving at 10:30 so maybe it's better earlier.
For the most part the staff had a very who cares attitude
The view is terrific, but the hotel had a long way to go to be 5 stars!

This hotel is in a small town outside Porto. We were there a couple days and would have loved to stay longer, but were on a tour. Our room faced the Douro river with a beautiful view. You could leave the hotel directly onto the promenade and walk along the river to shops. Beautiful pool. The restaurant was deluxe. We ate at the "bar" which had great food at reasonable prices and tables outdoors on the water with great food and service.

The location is perfect to explore nearby vineyards and the hotel views are stunning. There are various terraces around the hotel to sit in the shade and a good size pool. Excellent hotel all round. We booked the hotel’s Romantic Experience which included a tour and picnic at Quinta da Roeda; the picnic for two is enough for four at least! well worth a visit.

We loved this hotel from the minute we arrived to the gorgeous smell from the trees in the parking area to the wonderful welcome from the staff. The hotel is beautiful and quirky with such history, our room overlooked the pool and was huge with a massive comfy bed fluffy pillows and lovely sheets. Great bathroom products (the only thing missing was a kettle which we went and bought for Euro 14! Kept me supplied with tea!) the pool area is fantastic beds cleaned regularly and all socially distanced pool staff serve you a welcome drink of the day and there is a bar to order drinks and snacks. The main bar has a gorgeous terrace filled with lavender bushes and Jasmine so lovely to sit and have a sun downer. Breakfast was also brilliant staff served you hot food due to Covid restrictions and bought fresh bread coffee and juice to your table. I can honestly say the fruit on offer is the best I’ve seen including mango, pineapple, cherries and strawberries. We had port delivered to our room as a gift and on another occasion a bottle of wine and a cheese and meet platter so unexpected.
Staff incredibly helpful advising walks and other areas to visit.
Also there is a short cut through the train station right into the Main Street from a back courtyard!
This is probably the best hotel in the area with views of the river and hills just stunning.

the most beautiful hotel in Pinhao, flagship city of the Douro Valley, 2.5 hours by train from the sixties (recommended, charming, it goes quickly, adorable controllers, be careful they don't announce the stations) or 1.45 hours by car (but winding and sad road, with peaks said an Internet user). Large establishment in two buildings. view of the douro. The rooms are large. Magical beds! bathrooms with azulejos and bathtubs. good quality restaurant with impeccable service but sad setting. The entire decoration and furnishing of the rooms (not the bedrooms) is heterogeneous and not in good taste. The welcome depends on the person you meet. a rather severe woman once, a very kind and helpful man another time. It lacks a spa and an indoor swimming pool for the price (around €350 per night in December)

This hotel is perfect for visiting the Douro valley. My room had a terrasse on the river, it was very special to watch the boats and see the occasional little train arrive. The steep terrassed vineyards are stunning from that angle.
The bedroom is large, with ultra comfortable bedding, super clean and the large bathroom won the medal for Portuguese azulejos decoration!
The breakfast is a large buffet with a lovely range of fresh ripe fruits and many meats, cheeses etc.. set in a lovely dining room with a Bougainviller pergola.
All the staff are friendly, speak many languages and very professional

The bar serves a large range of ports and Douro wines, the location is fantastic.

Highly recommended as a stop, even if little town of Pinhao is not very interesting.

Don't miss the LBV79 bar and terrasse for drinks or fresh simple dinners.
