Arrival - hotel is very clean and tidy at the front and reception. Reception staff were lovely; speak good English, friendly, helpful, quick and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble if you needed to ask anything. Same with checkout - you can go early to breakfast between 5.45am and 7.00am if you have an early transfer (normally breakfast starts at 8am). You just ask in reception.
Rooms - I've seen a lot of reviews saying mouldy and dirty but this was not true for our stay. The room was extremely clean. I have stayed places where you don't want to put anything down, but tiled floor was spotless, furniture, although old and basic (and a few noticeable repairs) was perfectly serviceable there was more than enough drawer space for 2 (4 drawers in dressing table and one bedside, plus wardrobe space with around 12-15 hangers and open shelving, also spotless). Bathroom was spotless, tiled floor, marble sink, bath obviously old and needs new sealant but nothing dirty, n hairs or mould. Flush and water pressure good, enough toilet rolls and towels and if you want them changed you just leave them on the floor or hang up if not. There are NO toiletries so take your own. A few marks on the white walls which need cleaning or painting over. Beds were good and hard (if you have a bad back this is good) and pillows were soft. AC worked adequately and thermostat controlled - if you like it cold but like to be warm in bed there is also a thin duvet but I am sure you could ask for more. Bed linen and towels spotless. Balcony with 2 chairs and a table, have to hang things to dry on the chairs as there is no airer or line but I am sure they are not encouraging it to look like a laundry.
We had a pool view and I was worried about it being noisy at night, but entertainment loud music stops before 11pm and with the door closed, AC on it is not super loud.
You can hear doors in the courtyard corridor which is open to the sky with huge ficus' in the middle but that is the case in any hotel, it was not overly noisy as they have a quiet close.
I don't think the hotel has been updated much since it was built (70s?) apart from electrics and paint perhaps but as it is plain white paint and white tiles/wood/marble it is not at all fancy but perfectly serviceable for a pool/beach holiday.
The ONLY thing I would say could be improved is that there are no tea/coffee making facilities or fridge. So if you like your morning cup of tea before you get up, take a travel kettle, tea and coffee and a small flask to keep milk cold. You could fill this at the buffet or there is a shop next door. Although in theory everything is available at all times as it is all-inclusive, you can't get a drink before 8am, and the tea and coffee machines in the restaurant usually have a queue plus the cups are TINY. If you drink gallons of tea usually like me you will be missing it (even though the water is probs desalinated and a bit yuck you will still need one)
Restaurant
The choice was far beyond what I was expecting. When we first used to go to Spain in the 80s I remember soup, meat/fish, then melon, cak (yes cak) or ice cream ha. This buffet is amazing. Breakfast has everything you would expect from a continental breakfast with cheeses, hams, salad, bread, toast, every kind of toast condiment you can think of, yogurts, fruit, seeds, then pastries and cakes of all varieties, eggs of all variety, also English breakfast - bacon, eggs, sausage, beans, tomatoes etc, pancakes, potatoes, vegetables and many things I haven't mentioned. They also have HP if you can't do without (haha). Fresh fish and meat every lunch and dinner time is delicious, different types of Spanish stews with pork/beef/veal/chicken, lots of vegetables, at least 8 types of salad (sardines/rice/pasta/chick pea etc) plus every individual salad ingredient you can think of plus sauces and condiments, pate, bread, olives, fruit, ice cream and toppings, syrups, melon, lots of lovely little pastries (the ones made with custard are gorg), some odd coloured mousses and blancmangy type desserts, paella of some type every day, different soup every meal, every type of bread you can think of. Also lots of vegetarian options and soy milk, oat milk, skimmed, whole and lactose free milk. Again a bit annoying that coffee and tea machine are not available during lunch and dinner, but plenty of cold drinks, juices, water, white/rose/red wine and beer on tap, sparkling and still water. We took two water bottles which we filled up at every meal (just normal kind of 'school' water bottles not a mega 2 litre) which kept us going in the room and during the night, but otherwise you can get every drink you want at the bar from 10am - 12pm (I think).
Again, staff were friendly - 'Ola' and prompt at taking away finished plates so they don't mount up at your table and it is very obvious how much care and preparation goes into the food by the chefs. I could not fault the food although if you like spicy you won't really find it. Probably because of the 'Ugh I don't eat that spicy chilly stuff' type of people :) when we went early to breakfast on the last day there was one of the chefs adding fruit syrups to the yoghurt to make it look beautiful and getting the eggs and pastries ready to look nice and presentable.
I would suggest that there is something for everyone. There are restaurants in the little 'town' 5 minutes walk away if you want something different - Indian, pubs, crepes, burgers etc. During the day there are 'snacks' on offer outside by the bar and pool - chips, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, beef burgers and ketchup etc.
Entertainment
There is plenty to do for children - a kids club for under 12s and a baby pool. There are also various sporting activities during every day, aquafit, water polo, darts, games, stretching, pilates, even Spanish lessons. The entertainment/animation team encourage you to participate but are not pushy and there is a great fun atmosphere - the team work SO hard. Night time entertainment is a mixture of mini-disco then music/acrobatics/dancing etc by the pool and again a lovely atmosphere - the staff clearly enjoy what they do and work hard to achieve a great experience for everyone. Round the pool is clean and tidy, well maintained, the gardeners are out early morning, there is a lifeguard present 10-7pm who also cleans out leaves and rubbish from the pool etc if it's windy. Bar staff remove cups and plates regularly so it doesn't get messy. There are a few wasps but as my daughter commented -'They don't seem so angry as wasps at home' haha they are chilled out Spanish wasps... 'manana'.
Again, only criticism would be that towels are not provided so bring your own! You can pay 10 euros at the reception to get towels, but then they take 1 euro for each one. I've never been to a hotel where towels are not just available outside and you throw them back in a hamper when you have finished so are not allowed to take them back inside = no theft, but we had to buy one (although only 3 euros from a nearby shop so not a big deal, just a bit weird). Plenty of sun beds and did not really see much 'reserving' of chairs. It's not allowed and they will put your towels in a hamper at the side if you do which is great. There are lots immediately round the pool and then many more in the gardens about a 10 second walk to the pool so plenty to go round. The gardens are lovely and you can walk along a path at the front to the hotel next door to see the cliffs and sea.
Beaches
We didn't venture far, but the nearest beach is a 10 min walk. You just cross the road at the front of the hotel and either go through the bungalows car park and down a path or there is another path to the left of the bungalows which both take you down a fairly steep path with a lot of steps to the nearby beach. Small, steep cove, lovely sand, lifeguard, chairs and parasols. It was a bit windy when we went so the waves were a bit fearsome but we did paddle and it was warmer than the pool!
The other beach at Domingos? is about 15 minute walk and you go beyond the little town and follow the path down (it's all signposted). Again a beautiful beach but a steep walk with steps. A bit bigger and more parasols and chairs. They are both a lovely walk at nighttime.
Shops
There are many, many many tourist shops in the small village/town which is a 5 minute walk, selling lots of touristy souvenirs, food and clothes. You get lost inside! The restaurants and bars have live music and djs playing and it is a nice atmosphere. Lots of fairly inexpensive Spanish gifts and for some reason a fair amount of wooden willies!
The day we arrived and the morning of the 2nd day were beautiful sunshine but we did have some rain on the afternoon and the Sunday. Had to get out of the pool after aqua-aerobics for safety as there was quite a bit of rain but it stayed lovely and warm and there is a lot of space in the hotel to sit inside and have a coffee or a drink.
All inclusive drinks - they are very generous and random with the amount of alcohol. Usually looked like a quadruple and we had to top up with a mixer otherwise we would have been rolling around on the floor. You can have the daily cocktail for free - other cocktails are paid, but you could easily ask for a rum, lime and soda and have your own mojito. Beer was San Miguel, wine was a bit vinegary, but otherwise the bar had everything. There were a lot of staff on especially at night so you rarely had to wait more than 5 minutes even when the queue seemed long. Bar staff also very friendly.
I would recommend this hotel for a cheap and cheerful holiday. It's not luxurious, or fancy but you can get everything you want, the staff are great and obviously work very hard at the jobs and enjoy what they do. Everything was extremely well organised and I would highly recommend. We really enjoyed it and I would go back.
Booked package with Jet2 - also highly recommended. Very organised, great flight times. Pick ups included - the only fault, on the way I think we were put on the wrong coach as we were not on their list, so they dropped off at so many hotels it took over 2 hours. Journey back we were the first pick up and only picked up at 3 other hotels and took an hour to the airport so we had over 3 hours. Luckily we went fancy and went in the lounge which was lovely in Palma airport with a great selection of food and drinks and comfortable. Palma airport is great, no big queues, again, well organised check in, we waited approximately 30 seconds to be allocated a check in desk and security was straight through. Nice, clean airport and easy to navigate. A lovely weekend in all and came back tired but refreshed.
Would definitely go again with Jet2.

Like many others I had read the reviews of the Sol Cala Antena, and was a little concerned, however, this is a great hotel, all the staff make you feel very welcome and they work so hard. Our room was Sol room/garden room basic but vey clean, you had a lounge area bathroom and a bedroom with a big balcony what more do you need, I did not turn on the TV so can not comment on this, The food was good and plentiful, the normal breakfast eggs freshly cooked three ways, cold meats and cheeses, pastries, fruit etc. I did hear people complain about waiting for the eggs to be cooked, what do they do at home! dinner again had a good variety, there is a snake bar that serves food from 10:30 - 17:30ish then again at 22:30 to the bar closes, unsure what people are expecting regarding food, if we have paid for silver service I could understand but we haven't . The bar staff work very hard yes it is busy, but you would have to queue up at a pub. The animation team also work very hard from spinning class and water spin to there night entertainment. We will be returning next September 2020

Pros
You can always get a sunbed (they have them stacked up by the grass)
Lots of drinks available to choose from. Soft drinks are turned round at the bar so you can help yourself.
Room is a good size

Cons
Only 1 socket in the room, not near the bed

Food isn't labelled, so you have to guess what mystery meat you are eating. Food is very hit and miss.

Bathroom needs a revamp, cracked tiles, holes in ceiling, dirty bath and mastic needs redoing.

Walls are paper thin, you can hear everything. (Conversations/toilet flushing/showers and the noise outside

Only one mirror which is in the bathroom, It would be good to have one at the dressing table.

Beds are single beds pushed together on wheels, so they roll a lot.

Tip- The sea has rocks and boulders everywhere, so I would recommend beach shoes

Tax for a week is €31
Safe is €3 per day
Check in is 2pm, unfortunately we had to wait around to get checked in

Beach isn't suitable for people who don't like heights or who have mobility issues due to the very steep and slippy steps (don't have hand rails all the way down)

Overall it's a good hotel that needs some improvements.

Cheap and cheerful holiday!
You have to take it for what it is, you won't be getting incredible service or rooms but it's nice for the price.

Entertainment is pretty good, the day time is better than the evening but it was generally a laugh and enjoyable.

The food was a miss for us, not labelled, not much option for fussier eaters and there were two occasions that the food was under cooked.
The snack bar is great, especially in the evenings - the chicken wings are so good!

We were a bit worried about sunbeds around the pool but had no issues - it does get busy but not excessively. If you want a sunbed right by the pool side I'd suggest getting up slightly earlier to avoid disappointment.

The location of the hotel is good. The rooms are basic and need updating but you only sleep there so that didn't bother us.

We did have to queue for drinks but it went down fairly quickly and wasn't too much of an inconvenience.

Overall, we thought this hotel was nice; we took it for face value and had a lovely time! Met some wonderful people and had a laugh. I would recommend if you're looking for a last minute getaway on a tighter budget. 7 days was plenty of time here, any more would be too long in my opinion.

I doubt we would return to this hotel but for the price you pay there really isn't much to complain about. Don’t go with too much expectation and you’ll have a great time!

Yes I know this is a 3 star hotel and that is exactly what I got, but………

Let’s start with the positives, staff at the pool bar and restaurant where lovely and always had a smile or a joke to crack. The entertainment staff were brilliant and the aqua aerobics was good fun. They tried really hard with everyone and wasn’t pushy if you did yea t to join in.

Now the negatives.

Upon arrival the room wasn’t ready and had to wait hours for this to be ready. Jet2 never mentioned that this was a possibility. Rooms are dated but ok for what you need. 3 of our party got sickness and diariah and we stripped the beds as one had an accident and the cleaner put the dirty sheets back on the bed! With the stains clearly visible. Yuk

We told reception and jet2 we had come down with this sickness and suspected the food, but they didn’t care. They said it was an isolated incident but after talking to others around the pool we were one of many!

Let’s start on the food, mostly luke warm and undercooked is what you got. Fly’s buzzing around on the buns and salad and no covers to stop this from happening. Eggs are undercooked and sausages are raw inside. We learnt from this and ended up eating out for most of the holiday, which cost a fortune as you are limited on where to eat.

The drinks are really watered down and some/most had a funny taste. You need to smell the cups and drinks before you go and drunk them as on a few occasions these were not right.

The pool was also not the cleanest and only had the leaves swept out of a morning. In 2 weeks only see chlorine put in the pool twice which would clean a paddling pool. The lifeguards were a joke and was more interested in chatting up the girls and looking at their phones. I was always saying this place was an accident waiting to happen as there are no rules! There was an incident by the pool where a lady fell over and looked as though she may have broke her arm and the life guard had no clue how to deal with this. It took people from the pool to manage the situation.

I am still here now and cannot wait to go home!! I would not recommend this place if only cost you a pound.

Jet2 you should be ashamed of yourself to even put this place on your books.

8 stay holiday at this hotel and we loved every minute.
Good points:
Staff were so kind and welcoming and more than happy to help with anything.
The food was great- we didn’t find it too repetitive but we only ate at the hotel 6 lunches/ dinner times. I was sceptical about the food after reading some reviews but during our stay we had a variety of different soups, pizza, burgers, hot dogs, duck, chicken, beef, chicken wings, pork, sweet and sour chicken, fajitas, fish and pasta. After reading reviews I was expecting pork every night so was pleasantly surprised! The Chinese themed night was delicious!
The chefs were helpful with my peanut allergy, I was hardly limited in what I could eat which is always a plus.
The rooms are basic but cleaned everyday, we had fresh towels and bedding whenever requested. Air con worked with no issues.
Night time entertainment was (6 times out of 8) really good! They had singers, acrobats, dancers, bands and bingo during our stay so a wide variety!
The entertainment for children and adults during the day was great fun.
Staff ensured plates/cups/cutlery were out of sight and mind very quickly whether this be in the restaurant or by the pool.
Resort close by with supermarkets, crazy golf, bars, pubs and entertainment.
Cocktails were very tasty and they would add more alcohol if you asked!
Cons:
This isn’t really something that’s a quick fix but the pool, in my opinion, is too small for the amount of guests that can be staying at the hotel.
Not at the fault of the hotel whatsoever, but the closest beach is quite a walk away. Not a problem for us but I can imagine it would be difficult for those with mobility issues. Apparently there’s a beach closer to the hotel but it was either unclean or had washed up.
Unless you get up early hours (7am or earlier) you’re not able to get a sun lounger by the pool. If you do wish to have a sun lounger, you have to stay on that sun lounger until after 10 when the pool opens, or your towel will be removed. Again, it’s good to see that staff take the no reserve policy seriously but it’s unfair on families who cannot get sunbeds around the pool to watch their children swim because they were not all down the pool early enough in the morning.

Overall, after usually going to Turkey for our holidays with huge hotel complexes, we were pleasantly surprised with this three star hotel and I wouldn’t say no to returning in the future. We were sad to come home!

We stayed here between the 2nd August and the 16th August and it’s the worst place I have ever been too.

I found the bar staff and food court staff very nice and friendly, always polite and cracking jokes with you which was nice and they worked very hard.

But the food itself was poorly labelled, under cooked and not nice at all and one of the options to eat was “pigs heads in sauce” that was the label above it, but I didn’t see a head obviously but I didn’t eat it either. Every night the options were the same, Pork, Fish or spaghetti, so we ended up eating out for 10 nights of the 14 at a considerable cost when you think we had already paid for the all inclusive.

One of the safer options was the snack bar which served, hot dogs, burgers, nuggets and chips, when I say safer option that was until you realised that the buns and salad were put out at 11am and sat there all day uncovered with flys walking all over them until some poor guest decided to eat the bun.

Whilst at the hotel we caught diarrhoea and sickness and my son had an accident in his sleep, the sheet was put on the floor so that the cleaner could take it away (as per the hotel policy if you want your sheets changed, but the sheet was put back on the bed, with the stains visible on the top sheet, the receptionist did apologise and got house keeping to strip the beds immediately (thank you)

When we reported to the rep and the front desk that we had caught this bug at the hotel they were not interested and said go and have blood tests to prove it first!!!!!
We were not the only ones at the hotel to catch the bug and to my knowledge there was 9 people who all had the bug.

The pool was only cleaned properly once and we only ever witnessed chlorine being added twice.

We will never return to this hotel and having stayed in other Alua hotels I am shocked that this is one of theirs and I would proceed with extreme caution before I booked another one of their hotels.

Manage your expectations, you’ve booked a solid 3* Spanish resort hotel & that’s exactly what you’ll get!
We (a family of 6, 4 (grandparents & daughter & son in law) adults & 2 young very children) have just returned from a lovely 10 night stay.
We arrived before our rooms were ready, but packed our swimwear etc in our carry on, so we were able to begin our holiday immediately.
Our 2 x double, plus sofa bed rooms were clean & comfortable, although housekeeping was a little hit & miss replacing dirty towels taken & a few occasions no replacements.
The food buffet in the restaurant was extensive - anti pasta, soup, a wide array of salads, fish, meat pastas, English ‘junk’ foods, breads, hot & cold desserts etc. IMHO something for everyone. My only criticism is that the restaurant is so very loud, chairs scraping, dishes banging, so much so,that it was unsettling for the children.
We bathed mostly in the garden by the toddler pool, it was fine for us, perhaps better than having the worry of the children slipping & falling.
The evening entertainment was varied & enjoyable.
Each & every member of staff at the hotel worked extremely hard, always smiling & were friendly to the children & adults alike.
We ate out down in the town a few nights & visited the beach a 20 minute walk away, plus took the local service bus to Porto Cristo a couple of days.
Work out what you’re paying per night to realise that you’re getting a clean bed, shower, all you can eat buffet, unlimited drinks, plus entertainment & pools, then realise what great value for money you’re getting!
Thanks to everyone at the Aluasun for a lovely 10 night family holiday.

Honest review & Tips

This was our first holiday as a couple and it didn’t disappoint at all! The hotel itself is mixed with couples , families , and solo people. The resort is itself is quiet but plenty to do!

Check in/ check out
The transfer time is roughly one hour from the airport , check in was fast and smooth , the hotel tax is €30.80 for two people for one week.
The safe was €20 euros for one week.
Our check out was absolutely fine as we left early in the morning , however if your transfer time is after 12:00pm there is options to pay for a longer room however your wristband is removed unless you pay an additional cost.

Staff
All staff work absolutely tirelessly and with a smile on their faces. The entertainment staff were fantastic. The cleaner we had was a young man he made our room clean and spotless every single day and changed towels and sheets when required. The restaurant staff and chefs keep food topped up and customers happy.
The bar staff also very great, and definitely keep the queues down! Overall they are all brilliant.

Restaurant/ bar
As a fussy eater I assumed it would be hard to find anything i particularly like at meal times especially dinner however this wasn’t the case, there was such a variety of foods (although only chicken one night) , breakfast was great , fresh eggs , pancakes, omelettes made in the morning.
There is a snack bar during the day outside by the bar , this is stocked up throughout the day and consists of hot dogs , burgers , chips , toastie wraps and chicken nuggets.
During lunch and evening meals , self serve wine and beer is available.
After 7pm in the outside bar , glasses are then provided rather than plastic cups.

Swimming pool
Pool can get quite crowded however the best time for a swim is either 10:30 when it opens or whilst lunch time is on.
People do reserve sunbeds however we never had a problem finding one even after 10am. There are plenty of beds.

Resort
When you come out of the hotel and turn left and then a first left follow the road down until you come to a mini golf of the corner , this is the start of the main strip.
If you follow the road further down you come to a few shops on the right hand side at the bottom, if you go up the stairs you will find a very hidden but excellent square of shops and bars!
At the back of here there is also a “shopping centre styled area” inside there is a circle of bars and restaurants also very excellent.
Our favourite bar was “capango bar” highly recommend here very friendly owners and amazing cocktails!

Overall as a 3 star hotel you won’t be disappointed, however the holiday is what you make of it , I had fantastic company and brilliant weather. Would absolutely return.

Just returned for a week with my family, hotel is dated but the room was clean and air conditioned which is all we needed.
There is two pools, the childrens pool is small with no sides etc, the main pool is an ok size but it gets very busy and you can easily get a ball in your head or taken out by a inflatable.
You can get a sun bead easily enough but a lot are dirty and broken which is a real shame.
The entrainment team and staff were always lovely and welcoming, to note there are no fridges in the rooms and we had medication which they did store in receptions fridge.
Now the bad parts the food! There is limited choice and the standard is shocking! Most of it you can’t eat as it’s re used as the days go on, the cooked section is always the same and the food started it’s life frozen so no home cooked meals, lived on bread rolls and melon :( pool bar only offers burgers if you can call it that and some sort of pretend chicken nugget, drinks are so watered down so great if you need hydration but not if you fancied a tipple!!
Entertainment was not great so we only watched one show, there isn’t around the area apart from a couple of ropey restaurants I wouldn’t want to frequent and the nearest beach has actual rubbish floating around the bay!
Checked out at 12 stuck in a NON air conditioned reception and no access to food or drink even though we arrived in the late hours a week before, forced to pay 90 euros so we could get to the airport rather than facing a 4 hour wait!!
