My brother and I stayed at the Blau Colonia Sant Jordi in mid-September and the day we arrived, did not augur well...the reception area could not find our booking and blamed TUI UK. After a wait of about 20 minutes, we were told that the booking had been found! We took the room and also paid a deposit on a kettle and a so-called "deposit" on a room safe...which turned out to be "rent" for the safe for 7 days, which we found out when paying the final hotel bill. The kettle we had been given, failed to work and there were no cups, spoons etc in the "Superior Double Room", which could have been pointed out when we paid the deposit and received the kettle. So, it was the case of trot back to the reception area, change kettle and ask for cups etc. The cups and spoons, I was told, had to be collected in the restaurant, which was closed at the time of asking. So, we felt this was strange for a 4 star hotel rating...where you are given a dud kettle and have to search for cups yourselves. The room was not what we expected a "Superior Double Room" to be. Even in the description, it says an extra single bed is in the room, but this was definitely not the case. The facilities were pretty basic...and as there was no bathroom, just 2 very small cubicles with glass doors (like a peep-show!) for the shower and WC, while the wash basin was in the bedroom area. So, it's no wonder we were disappointed. We upgraded to a suite, which meant more costs..but at least we had a proper bathroom. As I/we do not wish to just paint a dismal picture of this hotel, the good points were: the overall cleanliness, attractive grounds, well equipped gym and most of all, an excellent breakfast. However, the hotel itself inside, is not particularly attractive, the bar on the first floor of the main building reminded me of railway station cafe, devoid of any atmosphere and totally uninviting. The evening meal was chaotic due to table allocations and invariably with queues. The buffet was generally a big disappointment and if you happen to be a Muslim, the staff are unable to tell you if the meat is pork or not, and in my situation, having spoken Spanish with them, the idea of Muslim asking such a question, was met with laughter...all the description says in English, is "meat". Finally, the entertainment was not what was expected...it was second rate and this we heard from other guests too. So, if you wish to try this hotel...don't go with high expectations, just because of the 4-star classification. We have seen and experienced other 4 star hotels in Colonia Sant Jordi, for example the Villa Chiquita and the Don Leon, and the Blau Colonia is nowhere near the standard of the 2 hotels mentioned. Finally, don't expect the usual cheerful, bubbly Spanish mentality associated with Spain...this is Mallorca and not the Mainland. In general we did not feel "bowled over" by the overall treatment we received, though there were exceptions...Sergio and Claudia. It is safe to say we will not be returning, having since cancelled our June 2024 vacation we had actually planned at this hotel...and I am pleased that my brother had the brainwave to test Blau Colonia in advance, otherwise we would have been spending 14 days there, and 7 were more than enough.…
