We arrived Christmas Day and departed New Year's Day. The hotel was nice, although more 3* than the advertised 4*. We'd booked a superior room although not sure what we got extra apart from robes and a voucher for an hour in the mini spa with jacuzzi and sauna (which was the highlight of my stay). The temperature in our room was set to 30C when we arrived and never really cooled down to a comfortable sleeping temperature despite leaving the doors open all day but having to close them overnight due to noise. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had a great spacious rainforest shower, but there were no tea/coffee making facilities and no tissues in the room. The restaurant got a bit samey after 7 days. It was vegetable or pasta soup every lunch and dinner! Not sure what some of the main courses were on the buffet as they just had pictures of an animal with them and sometimes in the wrong place. It must be a nightmare if you're vegetarian or worse still vegan! Although we were asked on check in if we had any dietary requirements. However, all the staff from reception to bar to restaurant to housekeeping seemed pleasant and hardworking. A special mention to Jessica in the entertainment team who has to try to put together a programme suitable for a variety of nationalities. The hotel was mostly full of elderly French and Spanish guests over Christmas so we appreciated her leading the walk to the towers for just us two Brits. Not sure why a Spanish hotel has based its decor on the Titanic theme but quite fun. Would I return? No. Mainly because there is nothing to do in Calella, especially in the winter.

We attended as a couple for 1 week at the beginning of July. When we arrived the hotel didn’t seem busy but while we were there it got busier and busier so I do recommend going as soon as school finishes to avoid this. There are over 200 rooms full with only around 30 sun beds and a small pool so it is sometimes very hard to get sun beds unless you wake up at around 8:00 to get in the line. All inclusive drinks don’t begin until 10am so you can’t even get free water until this time. There is entertainment all through the day and the entertainment team honestly made our holiday. Majority of staff and others guest are also Spanish and we didn’t meet many other English families or couples. The rooms are huge and were cleaned amazingly every day. There is however a huge gap at the bottom of the balcony meaning things could easily fall off into the street or pool. This did happen one night when a water bottle fell off a balcony and onto our table outside the bar. The food was fine. Every night of the week is a different countrys cuisine and we enjoyed Mexican, Italian, American but others were sometimes very unfamiliar to us and we didn’t like any of the food due to never trying it before. Still always something we could eat but sometimes not a lot. No snacks were included but the shops around the hotel are perfect for snacks and drinks. The beach is very fine rocks into bigger rocks and I would recommend buying or bringing swim shoes and it can be difficult to walk on when there swimming and sunbathing. Overall we had a good holiday! The location was amazing and the town is gorgeous. Any questions? Let me know :)

I found the hotel well located, 5 minutes from the beach and bars and eating places all around it.
Also very close to town and train station.

Hotel staff were friendly and helpful from front desk to catering staff bar staff and housekeepers which made us feel relaxed and welcome .

We were bed and breakfast and breakfast was amazing as they had so many choices that would suit everyone's needs , and Yousef the chef was so jolly and nothing a bother to him always welcomed us in the morning .

The hotel entrance and lounge / sitting rooms very clean and had relaxing seats and sofas , bedrooms were clean and good size but i have marked them down on the bathroom, the shower is far to small for an adult only hotel i feel the bathroom is in much need of upgrade as it has a small bath tub beside the shower which is no use for any adult so would be better to extend the shower and do away with the tub , i also feel the bathroom was tired and in need of redecoration.
The hotel also offers loungers and parasols from the beach free on a first come first serve basis which is a big saving over a week or two which i feel is a very good gesture.

Firstly, don’t listen to negative reviews if you are wanting a party hotel this isn’t the place for you however if you are wanting some much needed peace and quiet then this is perfect.

On arrival we were greeted by friendly reception staff, Sara in particular was so lovely, informative and told us everything we needed to know about the hotel.

We were given 2 cards which are basically your wristband, they take a picture of you on arrival and these are uploaded on to the cards - they scan these for drinks at the bar and entrance to the restaurant.

We stayed in a deluxe double room on the 7th floor which seemed to be one of the newer rooms they were clean, spacious and had everything we needed.
Shampoo/conditioner and shower gel all provided so no need to bring any. They also provided disposable toothbrushes.
It also has a hairdryer in the bathroom.
Your own private balcony is perfect to watch the sunrise and sunset.

If you would like to go the beachhe hotel provides a voucher that you present to the blue bar beach club and receive complimentary sun beds and parasol for the day (if you are all inclusive I’m not sure if this is the case for any other boards)
You go to the reception at 8am on the day you wish to go to the beach and they print the voucher for you.

The food here is plentiful and varies from day to day we always found something to eat - you will not go hungry!

All inclusive at the bar starts at 10am and finishes at 11pm after which drinks are payable.

We only saw a couple of the entertainment on an evening both of which were enjoyable but the karaoke had to be the best for us which we enjoyed on our last night here.

We didn’t really get involved in the day to day activities but they vary and there is an entertainment board in reception which shows the weekly activities and times on which they start.

The hotel offers complimentary spa facilities for all inclusive guests which we used twice you get an hour exclusively to yourselves and are given a key to enter and lock behind you to enjoy some much needed chill time.

The pool is refreshing and clean and very welcomed after some sunshine.
It isn’t massive but big enough and does the job. A plus is we never had to queue for a sunbed, I’m not sure what it’s like during summer as we visited out of season.
Towels are rented to you at a refundable cost of 10 euro each which you can change as many times as you like and hand the receipt in at the end and get your money back so again no need to bring your own towels.

You do have the option to visit the other h.top hotels free of charge and make use of the all inclusive but we chose not to do this as this was the only adult only one.

Overall we had a very enjoyable stay and would definitely come back to this hotel again.

Good points:
Clean.
Poor points:
Very old fashioned decor and rooms. Shower tiny.
Poor check in with an evening porter, gave no information. We had to ask in the morning regarding hotel amenities etc.
You have to be ultra quick to get a sun bed by the pool, very limited amount of beds. (Only 35, for 228 rooms).
They did offer free sun beds on the beach area but these also had to be queued for at reception early in the morning. Only a limited amount given out as free!
When arriving at the beach, you were guided towards the area of beach which did not have the Blue Bar (nice part of beach), this was allocated to paying for sun beds people (not hotel residents). Free sun beds had no facilities. Also, awful % of thefts on the beach.
Entertainment is poor, almost nonexistent and catered for line dancers and people of the ballroom dancing era.
Entertainment team in the evening would dance in lines but never seen them encouraging anyone to join.
Some bar staff were lovely but most watched everyone like hawks. As did the reception staff. Tried to book the spa but then booking was cancelled, no reason why, or apology for not letting us know even when they have photos attached to the room/food cards.
Drinks at the bar were limited to 2 at a time. That is reasonable. However, when you are a family of 3, surely common sense would allow 3 drinks to the same family. No you had to queue twice.
You had to ask for water and tea, this was only part of the all inclusive from 10am. So if you wanted a water (from the pump at the bar, not bottled) you could not have one until 10am.
Overall would not return to hotel.

Ignore the reviews, I booked this holiday as a surprise for my girlfriends birthday, we are a young couple in our 20s (we were definitely the youngest there) and thoroughly enjoyed our time! The hotel was quiet and peaceful (exactly what we wanted) but not a ghost town. The decor is described as out dated but this is not the case. It reminds me of an old fashioned palace, it was very nice. The room was spacious and was stocked up with new towels every day, although we had a twin room instead of a double so that was slightly annoying.
There were plenty of English people around, and all the staff spoke perfect English. Every member of staff from the bar to reception to the restaurant to the maids were all so friendly and helpful! The spa was very nice as it was private and you have to book but you get it to yourselves for an hour.

The all inclusive was pretty much how you expect it. Food was maybe a slight let down due to the repetition but regardless, it was plenty with plenty of options. The drinks were very good, the beer is estrella on tap, different from other all inclusives with cheap beer. They are very generous with the spirits and would make whatever cocktail you fancied.

The hotel is situated within a 30 second walk from shops, McDonald’s, bars etc. perfect location. We always had a sunbed although due to the high buildings surrounding the hotel and a few clouds, we didn’t get too much sun the whole time out by the pool (not their fault).
Although you can book the blue beach bar on the morning you would like to go, this is free (for all inclusive at least) and you get the sun all day!
To round it up, much expected for an all inclusive holiday, very friendly staff, lovely spa area, plenty of estrella ;) and in the perfect location. Really couldn’t complain about much at all, only recommendations would be an improvement or differences with the food but other than that, we really enjoyed our get away! Thank you very much!

If your looking for a great base that offers you a fabulous beach location and easy access to Barcelona then this is great, it’s 28 euros for 3 adults return to Barcelona on a 1 hour train that’s an awesome trip the train runs along the beach so you have seaviews all the way .The trains run about every 30 mins and last train back is about 11pm . You can also get access to the other Htop hotels so you can chose to use a different pool or restaurant . We are not a hotel entertainment type of family , however for those that seemed to want the entertainment they all seemed to be having a good time . The all inclusive was great value ,we enjoy going out to eat so it didn’t get boring you don’t have to eat there 3 times a day just because it’s there we worked out that if you eat just three days of the 7 it pays for itself . The gym was disappointing as there’s no free weights like in the picture and my son needed to train so he went and paid for a spa private gym a few times that wasn’t expensive and just a short walk . I’d recommend this hotel as a great base .. it’s a beautiful place go and explore the area don’t just sit in the hotel for 7 days and nights complaining!

DONT DO IT...
our stay at this hotel was the worst part of our holiday.
Asked for a double room but ended up with a twin room, went half board to have breakfast and dinner at the hotel but the food was awful. It is a good looking spread but you wont want most of it, and we tried breakfast and dinner twice though ended up going out and paying for all meals locally. So glad we didn't go all inclusive at this hotel.
The rooms themselves are very dated and not what you see in the photos, we didn't have a single decent night's sleep because the walls are very thin, to the point we could hear the next rooms talking, moving furniture, flushing toilets and coming in at early hours in the morning and waking us up after finally getting to sleep when all the noise from outside had started to calm down. Also we had a crack across the ceiling to the balcony, and when looking from outside we could see some balconies had serious cracks running through the middle of some of the higher floor balconies.
Outside by the pool there are several sun lounges but you would be lucky to get one as there are so many rooms at the hotel and because the area for the hotels pool is so small, there just isn't the space.
The hotel does own some sun lounges on the beach which you can get for free, but unless you are down at reception before 7am to claim these sun lounges, you won't get one. They will then rent you a sun longer for €7 each and €8 for an umbrella. This is €1 cheaper than if you rented a sun lounger at the beach. We rented the sun lounges and umbrella for €21 from the hotel reception, only to be told when we got to the beach that they didn't have any spare and to come back in possibly an hour or so to see if anyone had left.
So if you enjoy disappointment, don't sleep well, are partially deaf, have a cast-iron stomach, want to hear about your neighbouring rooms guests activities from your bed or just a sadistic person, then this hotel is right up your street 😀.
Buyer beware. Its a lovely town and I'm sure if you take my advice and look for another hotel, then your holiday will be so much better.
Oh and they have karaoke where you can listen to people killing the theme song to titanic. Thats a winner 😆.
Have a great holiday and don't book at the H-Top Amaika.

This hotel the is advertised by Jet2 on-line as 'boasts a large outdoor swimming pool and sun terrace so you can spend your days topping up your tan and cooling off from the hot Mediterranean sun' This description and photography is totally incorrect as the pool is most definitely NOT large and should described as small and the sun terrace again, is most definitely NOT large and should described as small and due to this, has very little or no sun throughout the day.
We had to walk each day to use the pool and sun terrace of the htop Callella Palace and walk back for meals, much to my annoyance as this was a very busy family hotel and we had booked adults only all-inclusive. However, apart from this the hotel is perfect, Its a central location to lots of lovely shops and restaurants, no music bars though, and 5 mins walk to the beach, where the sand is a bit gravelly and the sunbed are 8e each! plus extra for a parasol! but very nice. The hotel has free sunbeds for the beach if you want to get up and queue at 7.30am as they are limited, they also have sunbeds for 7e. The food is amazing, with plenty of choice, rooms and hotel are very clean, comfortable and well main maintained. There is a expensive charge for the safe 38e for a week but that includes the deposit of 10e of which you get back, as an all-inclusive guest I think that should have been free! We were there for a week, only visited Barcelona, by local bus this was a bit confusing when we got there, maybe we should have gone by train as that was an option, but a 15 min walk to the station. Shame about the pool otherwise this hotel provides a 100% stay.

This is not our first visit to the Amiaka and it will not be the last. If you are looking for a holiday where you are surrounded by like minded Brits who want to get drunk and eat a full English then the Amiaka is not for you. Indeed Calella is not the place where you will find this.
However if you are looking for a relaxed holiday with friendly staff in a clean and spacious hotel then you will enjoy your stay. The food is fresh, plentiful and varied. Their is plentiful drink and although the pool area is small the beach is 2 minutes away where you can have a free lounger and parasol all day everyday if you wish.
The hotel caters for many different nationalities and most of the staff speak English (not that we should expect that!)
There are activities during the day and and night and you can book a free shuttle bus to take you to any of the other hotels in the chain where you can eat lunch if you are all inclusive.
Ignore the moaners, if you want an adults only quiet relaxing hotel. This is the place.

"The pool area is small, but the beach is literally across the road. You can hire a sum lounger there at a reduced rate from the hotel in the summer."
