Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We dropped in here for lunch on a wet Saturday and were surprised at how quiet it was. Our order arrived quite quickly and the food was really good, but over £30 for a soup, quiche, tea for two and two bottles of water was pricey. The waitress was very friendly and helpful and we couldn’t fault the service or the food but it did seem expensive and a little soulless.

Beautiful and peaceful retreat just out of the town centre. Excellent food and lovely staff. Has become our go to place for lunch or a coffee and cake when in town. Lovely gardens when the sun is out. Reasonably priced too for a higher end place.

Have always recommended this hotel to visitors to the island, have visited previously but staying there at the weekend I was disappointed. The room was on the small side, decor tired, the carpet very stained and the bed uncomfortable, The bathroom was nice and better than some, but the door wouldn't close without being forcibly slammed, there was a short dark curly hair on the bath tiles, and a collection of dust and fluff behind the door. On the landing outside of the room there were two dirty glasses, there when we arrived in the afternoon and still there in the morning when we went for breakfast. Breakfast was nice, except the baked beans were cold and we did not get offered sauces etc and had to find someone to ask. The garden is lovely, but the stay sadly didn't feel like it was worth the money, maybe if it had been one of the "signature" rooms, but not the room we had.

Room Tip: Steep and uneven stairs, winding and not a good option for the less mobile.

Just back from a work trip to the Isle of Wight and was lucky enough to stay at the One Holyrood Hotel. Beautiful rooms, really friendly and helpful team. The location is fantastic and lots of restaurants to choose from as the cafe, which is outstanding, closes at 5pm. Will def stay again

The tapas was tasty and I was happy to find a non alocolhic beer on offer. Nice garden at the back. We stumbled across this and were actually a bit late for a meal but the friendly team accommodated us. If we return to Newport we woud love to try lunch (live music on offer soemtimes then too, apparently).

We loved this hotel! We were in room 7, which was tastefully decorated/furnished, had a brilliant shower, free standing bath, and a very comfortable bed. The staff were fabulous, and we enjoyed having a couple of drinks in the lounge before dinner. Breakfast (including cooked vegetarian one - just ask for veggie) was lovely. The whole place was spotlessly clean, full of historic charm, with lots of quirky but tasteful decorative touches. The car park is just round the corner and we found it easiest to pay using the app as that meant we could extend the parking for an hour to have a later breakfast without having to go out. We'd 100% recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again next time we visit the island.

We had a room on the top floor. The stairs are very difficult for a 70 year old with arthritis to negotiate. The room is sparsely furnished with no wardrobe. Did not like the open plan toilet and shower arrangement with no door on the toilet and the only place to put the coat stand outside the open toilet entrance. Low beams which meant we were constantly concerned about hitting our heads. Nice breakfast and friendly service in the dining room.
