The countryside campsite that’s handy for central London too… Why not take a short break in the best of both worlds? Lee Valley Campsite is just that; a brilliant base for exploring the countryside and handy for central London too. The 1,000 acre River Lee Country Park is on the doorstep, with its traffic-free cycling and walking trails, boating, rare wildlife and even white water rafting, and Epping Forest with its mountain bike tracks is also close by.If you’re looking to discover the sights and sounds of the big city, from here you can be right at the heart of London in less than 40 minutes via bus and Underground. And to make things easy, one day London travel cards are for sale in the campsite shop. The site’s a perfect spot for tents and caravans, or you can choose to stay in a cosy ‘cocoon’ or family cabin

Lovely experience staying over in a Cabin. Really cute and despite my first impressions of the location due to it being in east london it is full of wildlife and so quiet! The site is full of bunnies, foxes and some horses you can stroke. Cabins where tidy and even complementary tea and coffee. Toilets and showers were clean and nice.
My only tip is when cleaning the cabins just to brush the door on the outside as there was a lot of cobwebs which gets onto bags when bringing them through.

We loved this campsite very much! There was a bus station right in front of the property with good connection to central London, so we were able to explore London without spending huge amount of money on accomodation! Our tent pitch was located just next to the childrens' playground and they had lots of fun spending time there. Staffs were friendly, sanitation facilities were great, the dishwashing room was a bit small compared to other campsites we have stayed. Wi-fi is available throughout the property. We'll definitely will choose this campsite again should we visit London next time.

A nice site that could be amazing with a bit of TLC.

A big disadvantage for me is the toilets. The men’s toilets are in the front of the building, visible and well lit. The ladies are round the back of the building, not visible and not as well lit. Didn’t feel comfortable going there alone in the dark.

Disappointed by the river walk. The whole walk is along a big ugly fence and doesn’t have the countryside feel I expected from reading the description and seeing photos.

There is however lots to do in the area, a bus stop just outside, a shop and a secure entrance for vehicles.

Camped here 29th-2nd July with family. Some in tents, some in campervans. We asked to be close to eachother which they tried to accommodate but we still ended up in different areas. In the middle of the campsite is a children's park which children are allowed to play in from 9am-11pm. This was not policed and a group of children were up and screaming in the park at 6/7am waking the whole camp up. So this campsite can get very noisey. As well as this there seemed to be a rave happening nearby and music was blasting until 4am. We camped on field B which had it's own toliet/shower/washing up facilities. On the first night/morning there was no hot water, this was fixed by the end of the day. The toilets and showers could have been cleaner but weren't horrendous, as well as the washing up facilities which didn't have any plugs, so if you didn't have a washing up bowl they were not user friendly. The showers had little power and were push button showers, so didn't stay on very long. When we first arrived there was a working drinking water tap close by. We noticed by the end of the day the handle of the tap had been removed and been tapped off. I asked a staff member why and he said due to them expecting alot of kids, they have taken it off incase they leave the taps running. This to me was unacceptable and unfair to the other paying customers. The fish and chip van which on the website stated, comes every Saturday, didn't. All in all wouldn't recommend and won't be booking again.

Thank you for your review. We’re sorry to hear you didn’t have a positive experience while staying at the site. For issues out of hours, there is a number that can be called to raise issue to the on site such as disruption on site. The fish and chip van visits were being trailed to see if they were successful which unfortunately was not extended further. We have forwarded your comments about the hygiene facilities and the removal of a tap to the management of the site to ensure this is improved.

Having read some of the reviews on here we were a bit wary of staying here but had a fantastic time. The site is smaller than we thought it would be with really friendly and helpful staff. We stayed in two of the cabins under the trees at the edge of the wood and they were clean and comfortable - although there was a ledge above the beds that could have done with attention as we found a couple of things that other people had left behind. You have to bring your own bedding but that is good as you know where it came from etc.

There is a microwave, kettle, single stove top, radiator and TV in each of the rooms although we didn't use the TV as we were having too much fun around the campfire which you can hire at reasonable prices. The bathroom facilities were clean and tidy although we didn't use the showers.

There is a big Tescos and an Aldi within easy reach and you can get whatever you need, including firewood, from there, although the site also provides this along with necessities.

There are lots of nature reserves in the vicinity which are worth visiting as well.

Overall it was a lovely experience and allowed my family and friends to have a camping experience without the hassle of putting up and taking down tents.

Stayed 2 nights and couldn’t wait to pack up and get away from this site.

Overcrowded and of the 15-20 tents crammed into the very small camping field, 12 -15 of the tents were all part of the same group. All families who basically let their children make as much noise as they liked , shouting and screaming from 7:30am until 10pm every day of the stay. Kicking balls which hit other tents and playing in tent pitches of other campers not in their group.

Not quite sure why the campsite didn’t just close the camping field to accommodate the large group.

We have children ourselves and totally understand children want to play but we’ve always been considerate to other campers and ensured our children are equally as considerate.

Would never return to this campsite and strongly recommend it’s avoided by anyone else who wants a relaxing quiet camping trip.

We stayed in a pet friendly cabin. Cabin was spacious and always warm, adequate equipment hot place, microwave, full size fridge and kettle. Toilets and showers were spotless. Site was really peaceful with access gate to walk along the canal. Lots of wildlife to watch as you enjoy a brew on the picnic benches outside the cabin. Bus terminus at the entrance of site which takes you to Walthamstow central where you can pick up overground train to Liverpool St, where we boarded No 11 bus which passes through majority of tourist places in London and only cost £1.65. Whole days travel on London transport cost £11 per person which is really reasonable, would definately do it again.

We a pack of 6 arrived here on 2 June and the receptionist was grumpy and in hurry to shutdown. The pitches are cramped and kids playing with balls and hitting the cars around. There is nothing unique about this place and suggest to pitch a tent in your own garden would be better idea. Nothing much to do here for kids. We booked for 4 days but will be packing off in couple. Avoid !

We loved sewardstone but i wasnt a valued customer to where i reported a dangerous and absolutely hazardous matter to children and there camper customers but they cant do anything as half there grounds need to be like that , this was the excuse i got, there huge pebbles and flint shards that are on the ground per pitch is extremely dangerous and cant see how its passed any standards of saftey they put there customers under risk of getting one right through there eye or head. I came for a couple of days rest and found myself having to source a new back screen , what a disaster, as they decided to get the sit down lawn mower out with huge blades on it ,, while campers were relaxing and children were playing ,we did here a tap but thought nothing of it till i went to my back door tinted window a shard of flit had rickershaded and cracked the back window it would of gone straight through our head if the back door was open it would of been a totaly different story or if it had hit a child ,,we would not recomend children playing on this site as the bases the vans sit on are giagantic pebbles and shards of flint that are so very dangerous if there going to get that particular sit down lawn mower with massive rotateing blades out while customers are renting the pitches with thousands of pounds of equipment and small children then i am finaly leaving my review i have done and reported this to safety but they didnt think that its an issue to be brought to saftey standards or even probably not spoken about again. I tried to phone head office and tradeing standards but got no where i feel sorry for the family that will be putting in a million pound claim due to a childs death.

Thank you for your review, we’re sorry to hear there was an issue during your stay. We understand this was dealt with at the time with our team sourcing and funding for the replacement window, as well as letting you stay on site until your vehicle was safe to drive. The gravel is a standard flooring covering used in many outdoor settings. Although we understand your frustrations with the situation, your abusive and discriminatory behaviour was unacceptable, despite this, we took all available measures available to us to resolve your situation quickly and efficiently.

This site is the noisiest site we have ever stayed on. We have a fully double glazed modern Motorhome and still, it was unbearable.

The road noise is relentless, only broken up by the air traffic. Then, first thing in the morning, there was noise from building work opposite the site and some additional noise from maintenance on the site.

The family that pitched next to us had booked for three nights, they couldn't stand the noise and left two days early.

Just to top off a very unpleasant experience, the toilet block was dirty from late evening, cleaning only started late morning the following day.

Another one for the 'avoid' list.
