We gave the staff here a few things to deal with - turning up with more people than we'd originally booked, one diner who wanted to make sure there was no butter anywhere near anything they'd ordered, and then wanting to pay for six lunches with bags full of change!

But I have to say the servers and management were really good and accommodating throughout, and very friendly/chatty to boot. The roasts were very good (beef especially so) and those who had desserts were enthusiastic to the point where I wished I had gone for one myself.

The restaurant area was surprisingly quiet when we dined (just after noon on a Sunday) which might have made it easier for us to get such good service, but nonetheless it was a very pleasant experience.

Also worth pointing out that the real ales were very well kept - not always the case with food-oriented pubs!

We arrived late, the night before an early flight from Bristol airport. We have an 18 month old so booked the room for 2 adults and an infant, this was on my confirmation so I thought it would be obvious we needed a cot. The people at the bar were welcoming enough but when led to the room he seemed surprised we needed a cot. With no effort to go get one, I slept on the pull out bed and my son and husband had the bed. My son rolled off the bed and luckily landed on me as I had pulled my bed up to the double incase this happened! It was an odd set up of getting out of the building once the pub shut. The room was nice, all clean and modern and really close to the airport. I dont think I'd stay here again as not being provided with a cot even after booking an infant was not good and then being told they didnt know where to find one was ridiculous. So through sheer lack of service and helpfulness its a 3 star rating.

We booked two rooms at the Darlington Arms for the night before an early morning flight from Bristol airport which is 1.8 miles away. There’s no front desk so we had to take our luggage into the main bar to check in, pick up the room keys and then head through to the back of the pub to the stairway leading to the 1st floor rooms.

The rooms are quite large with modern en-suite, tea/coffee making facilities and a decent double bed, all really well presented. We were pleasantly surprised by the high standard of the accommodations.

The pub itself is quite a cosy setting, there’s plenty of tables and a good menu with lots of choices including a good Indian meal selection. At the back of the pub is a nice large outdoor seating area.

The only issue at this pub is the lack of accessibility options, the stairs to the bedrooms from inside the pub are narrow and steep and there’s no lift, so for those less able this would be a struggle, especially if you’re lugging heavy suitcases around. When the pub is closed you need to exit via the 1st floor fire escape at the back of the pub, down the stairs and then navigate through a dark passage to get to the car park at the front, again not ideal with a suitcase as this involves a number of steps.

Overall a decent pub, plenty of parking, good food, nice rooms but poor accessibility.

Scoured the Bristol airport area for accommodation offering a bath (16 mile hike earlier that day made it an essential requirement!) and came across Darlington Arms. Foolishly didn't look at reviews. The room booked offered "bath or shower" but when I got there it seemed the choice was theirs rather than mine, and it was a shower room. I was then told breakfast couldn't be served until 0830 the next day (too late for my flight) but to their credit they relented and brought the chef in early. The alleged shuttle to the airport didn't exist, so had to fork out £27 for an Arrow cab for the two mile trip! Around 30 teabags available in room - not one of them ordinary English Breakfast. Fish and chip dinner OK (hence two star rating rather than one) but served stacked high on a piece of wood so stuff kept falling in my lap. Breakfast OK but milk was so off it was practically cheese. Guys were friendly enough, but really, not a pleasant experience...

There are several reasons why I would not recommend this 'down-market'. The room was shabby with dirty marks on walls and carpet, so definitely needed re-decorating! The worse thing was there was NO hot water in either the sink or shower, even though we left the water running for a quite a while, so neither of us could have a shower before breakfast, which we were not happy about, for the price we paid. The breakfast was OK, although we had to wait at least half an hour for it, even though we were the only residents in the very cold restaurant! By the way, no cereals are offered, just juice and brown toast was also not available, which we were surprised about, as that is something quite basic.
Before leaving, after breakfast, I added to speak to the Manager, whom checked us in the night before, to bring these negative points to his attention, but he wasn't on duty, unfortunately and the male who served our breakfast was the only staff member there and he didn't speak very much English.
I would definitely NOT recommend this place, as it did not represent 'good value for money' and is to be over-priced and badly run, so will not be returning.

Just spent a night at The Darlington given to us as a gift so didn’t know what to expect. Turned up and headed in to a very warm welcome. Showed to our room and explained about all the information that we needed to know, how to get in etc if it was closed-as all the bar area and doors close at 10, which was fine. Room was decorated lovely and was warm and inviting when we went in, lovely view, only downfall we were right on the main A38 road and was very noisy. Bathroom was separate down the hall but was pointed out that the name above was to go with name of room and it is only for your use, which was very nice to know, had everything that you needed in it. Only one little tip is take your own hair dryer as there is not one provided in the room, also take ear plugs as the volume of traffic is very noisy .
Went down for an evening meal, both had chicken wings to start and they were exceptional and very well presented, then both had burger and fries and again exceptional well presented, well done to the chef. Staff very polite and friendly nothing to much of a bother.
After the nights sleep which the bed was comfy, went for shower but will say the water kept going hot and cold, so that could do with sorting.
Went down for breakfast which we paid extra for as not included in nights stay, but it was well worth it, another lovely presented full English breakfast with everything cooked perfectly and coffee as well.
Would definitely go back but would prefer the loft room or one out the back so not so noisy.
But well done to The Darlington staff.

Whilst staying in Hotel opposite in July 2012 my Partner & I took an evening meal in the Darlington Arms. The barmen that served us sat us at a table infront of the bar with my back to the bar. My partner ordered Chicken tika skewers with rice . When the meal arrived it came with chips even though hed asked us twice if we wanted rice. He then placed a pint of bear on our table and split it across the table and no attempt to apologies or clean up.My Partner was unable to eat her meal as was far to spicy and when she informed them of her concerns it was met with mockery and grinning .During the meal i had the strong feeling we didn't fit the bill of what their ideal customers are and this was made even more evident as then the barmen turned the music playing up very load. It was clear to the barmen that i wear hearing aids to both ears. Another customer indicated to him to turn it down.
I could only see this as discrimination on the grounds of my disability and therefore unacceptable
To sum up we found the food third rate & expensive for what it was.The service was appalling and indiscriminately on the grounds of my disability. I strongly believe that their lack of customer service is of some amusement to them..

Very easy to find and plenty of parking. Lovely welcome once we entered and old fashioned features which gave it lots of character.
All staff were very polite and couldn't do enough. Very thorough in informing us of all guest rules and also the fire escape routes. Room was as seen on the photos, very nice and ample size to swing a tiger. Lovely ensuite with upto date shower including rainshower and standard shower head. Shower, toilet and wash hand basin very clean as well as the bedroom. Cleanliness is obviously taken seriously and priority. The soundproofing was great as situated on the A368
We also ate in the evening at the Darlington Arms. A varied choice to suit all palettes and we were not disappointed in our food choices and their portions are very generous. Service came with a smile and the food was quick to come to our table and was plenty warm enough.
We also had breakfast the following morning (new year's day) and again the service and quality in the food was outstanding.
Both my wife and myself enjoyed our stay at the Darlington Arms and would highly recommend it. They also cater for airport parking as not far from Bristol International Airport

Stayed here as an overnight before a flight out of the airport. Booked it based on the pictures online which looked fantastic. Where do I start really with this…the hotel needs to have a serious look at the pictures online vs reality as you are misleading customers. Upon arrival we were greeted in a friendly enough way, no complaints there. Painfully loud music was blasting out from speakers and the tv was also on very loud…think noisy pub that also wants to be a restaurant. We were shown to our room..I say a room but it was actually more like a box. It was a warm day and this box was a proper sweat box. Absolutely had to have the window open but this only reminded us of how close we were to a very busy and noisy road. This road is busy ALL night so if you plan on sleeping give up that plan and stay elsewhere. The bed was squeezed in to the room and I could barely fit alongside it, obviously others had the same problem as the wall was dirty and marked. In the bathroom the tap, which was a waterfall type tap would shoot water at you when you turned the tap on, I was looking for the hidden camera show host to pop out at some point. We went down to dinner and hoped the food would be ok..when ordering it was hard to be heard over the music which to be fair was offensive and not suitable at all, think a rap song ranting about n*****s… I shot the chap a look and he turned it off. But by that point the damage had been done. Play anything…green sleeves if you have to but not expletive filled music fgs. We ordered diet cokes but it was obviously not Diet Coke…the food came out and there was some kind of spice lathered all over it, like some kind of floral tasting spice that just ruined it. We then went out to the car to get something through the beer garden and my other half had the pleasure of being leered at by a group of blokes drinking in the garden. Went to bed and had ZERO sleep..boiling hot room, very small double bed..loads of road noise. I woke up at one point feeling so claustrophobic I had to get out. Couldn’t wait to leave in the morning and we will never ever return.

We were lucky enough to stay in the loft as a half way point between home & Cornwall. The room was fantastic and had everything we needed. We were greeted on arrival and told everything we needed to know, we then went to eat in the restaurant and we were not disappointed! The steak was fantastic and the service was even better, a gentleman looked after us from the minute we arrived (Bala I think his name was) he was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed, the atmosphere was great with the music on and even the locals were welcoming and good for a laugh! If I had to pick at anything I would say the noise from the main road was a little disruptive as you can hear everything. Other than that fabulous stay and would definitely return!
Oh and I lost my sunglasses somewhere in your car park so if you find them please let me know (long shot I know lol) thanks for a fabulous evening!
