Excellent food and service . Choice of two restaurants Large substantial bedrooms A place I look forward to visiting. Happy and relaxed after a visit . All the family enjoy The Royal Toby those living locally and travelling from Essex
The quality of the food was great, there are two restaurants on site and both exceeded my expectation. Staff very friendly and helpful. Location isn't the best but it is well set back from the road and the setting is nice and peaceful.
We stayed for my brothers wedding. Lovely venue and meal, the staff were great. Hotel spot on. You couldnt fault anything. Would definately stay again at this hotel. Shame they dont have any leisure facilities .
We had our wedding at The Royal Toby on 20th June in the Study. From the first enquiry Chelsea, Joe and the team have got out of their way to help us organise our wedding. During our meetings with her Chelsea was friendly, approachable and very helpful. The study was ideal for a small wedding, we had both the ceremony and the meal in there. The team decorated the room beautifully, it felt very intimate and cosy in the room. The food was absolutely excellent and all our guests commented on how nice it was. The staff were friendly, efficient and professional. We would have no hesitation in recommended The Royal Toby to anyone who is planning a wedding.
We stayed recently with two more couples and all enjoyed our time at this lovely hotel. Can't understand previous review on rooms unless they had one unrefurbished ? Our rooms were great with a double and a single and VERY comfortable. The bathroom was basic but adequate and a makeup mirror would have been useful with better lighting. We stayed on the sleep and dine offer, amazing value at £135, it includes 3 course meal. We found starters very good but some of our mains were not, lamb shank was VERY salty and inedible. Chicken Kiev's were very disappointing, lumps of unmelted butter on the top! We found the breakfast lovely and faultless with great, friendly service. Will definitely return and go to the onsite Italian restaurant.
Rooms dated, poor breakfast, ok Italian restaurant, nice atmos and decor to open pub area. For convenience if it was a wedding or a conference (company paying) you could stay but outside of that several better options around Rochdale.
My husband and I stayed at the Royal Toby as part of the Stay and Dine package. We were meeting family in the restaurant for dinner so it made sense for us to include our meals. We found it to be great value and would recommend it any time!
So I'll start with the positives because it was overall an extremely positive stay. First, plenty of car parking. Next, reception. Looks lovely and the lady was very friendly and welcoming. I didn't catch her name but definitely one of the better receptionists I've met, it felt like she really would try to help us if we needed it because that's her nature rather than just doing her job, if that makes sense. Onto the room. We hadn't paid a lot for the room anyway because of a special deal that was on but it was far nicer than any budget room I've stayed in. Enough room ,very clean, big enough bathroom, table space, wardrobe, iron, lots of plugs and different lighting options, all very trendy and modern. The event space was lovely, looked like some sort of old function room with lots of period features kept, hard to explain but very nice. Breakfast in the morning, you walk through the bar area which is essentially a pub full of different nooks all decorated nicely and differently for different atmospheres and looks like it would be a nice place to drink, onto the food hall area which was more function over form but fine for brekkie. The only downside is the food wasn't great, the bacon was burnt and the fried bread wasn't quite right, but that said there was no limit on what we could have, there was lots of options as far as fruit, cereal and cooked stuff, and for the price it was ok but just not quite up to the same level as the rest of the place, which in fairness was outstanding so it was always going to be difficult to keep everything at the same level. Would 100% return. 4* is a little harsh, I'd like to give 4.5* but it's not an option…
We loved every minute of my stay. Food, ambiance, staff, our room. Very relaxed and friendly atmoshphere. Can't wait to stay again. We stayed on the ' Sleep and Dine' offer and although it was on a Saturday night and the most expensive for 'the deal' it was still great value for money.
We attended a wedding on Saturday 28th may and would just like to say that all the staff were fantastic throughout the day, a big well done to your team. Food and drink were of a high quality and the rooms were really spacious and clean. Would definitely return.
