Detailed Reviews
Stayed on a TravelZoo offer and after reading some of the reviews I was a bit apprehensive especially as it was a gift for my partner. Thankfully had very little to worry about.
The location is great there are castle ruins and a lovely walk along the river within walking distance. But you can also visit some of the local beaches and if you fancy travelling further afield to Tenby or Aberystwyth which we did.
We were greeted by the lovely receptionist who advised us that due to our room having maintenance done we had been upgraded to a suite which was a lovely gesture. The room was outside of the hotel just a short walk down the road with no parking but that was not a huge issue we could park long enough to unload the car.
The room was fabulous, spacious lounge and bedroom and an amazing bathroom. Sadly there is no view out of the front window as there is a property directly opposite.
I used the gym that was small but had enough equipment for me to get a decent workout done. There was no water available not sure if this is a covid thing as there were lots of empty bottles next to the water machine.
Breakfast was lovely continental plus choices other than the full breakfast which you don't always get. So as we were staying for 3 nights i decided to have all 3 and all 3 very good.
Just a few negatives. Check-in was 2pm we arrived just after but our room wasn't ready. The receptionist could not have been more apologetic though so we were ok with it just went next door to the pub for a drink.
The television in our lounge was not working properly we reported it and were told that maintenance would be advised on Monday but it was not fixed for the duration of our stay. it wasn't a huge issue as we were out most of the day but as we had the luxury of a suite it would have been nice to have been able to have full use of it rather than just sitting on the bed to watch telly when we got back.
There was a problem with the lock on the front door it was quite difficult to open from the outside and more worryingly from the inside. If there was an emergency and we needed to get out in a hurry that would not have been possible. We mentioned it to the cleaners when they came on the Monday and they said that they would report it again nothing was done during our stay.
The bedroom gets very hot even with the radiator off so sleeping comfortably is an issue. There is a fan in the room which we used on the second night and it worked a treat and is very quiet.
We decided to eat in the restaurant on one evening and as breakfast was so good we had high expectations sadly we were very disappointed. As a previous reviewer has mentioned it is very burger dominant with only 3 other options. My partner opted for the chicken goujons to start which we are pretty sure were a famous frozen brand! He chose a burger which he enjoyed but did say that it was a bit too big and he has a very big appetite but struggled with it. I chose the sea bass which was not very appetising at all. I see people have said that the menu is to be changed and we really hope so as we would like to return to the hotel and give it a another try.
Final note has to go to the staff each and everyone of them that we came into contact with are a credit to the hotel, polite friendly and helpful. Yes we had a few niggles but we would 100% stay here again in part due to the fantastic customer service.

Thank you to Nia and the team for having us back on our first wedding Anniversary after getting married here last year. It was really special to come back here and celebrate, Emlyn Hotel will always be special to us.
Where to start, staff are always so welcoming and can't do enough to help you.The room was beautiful, we stayed in Ty Avon lovely and quiet just out of the way.
Lovely touch of bubbly and a anniversary card too ☺
We had a 3 course meal in the restaurant, probably predictable but we had our wedding food (burger and fish and our favourite Sticky Toffee). Food was lovely, all cooked fresh!!
In the morning, breakfast was lovely!! List of choices and with Covid-19 all served to your table.
Overall we couldn't have asked for a more perfect way to celebrate our first wedding anniversary.
(All Covid-19 measures are in place here, a handwashing unit at the door, hand sanitiser as you go into the restaurant, screens, staff wearing masks etc. We felt really safe being here)
Well done to Nia and the Team xx

From the moment we entered gwestyr emlyn we knew it was the place for us it was perfect.
I would like to start with the outstanding service and support we recieved from all of the staff, bar staff, reception staff and most of all Nia the wedding co-ordinator.
There was never a problem with any questions and all requests for extras for our day where met, throughout our wedding day and the days running up to it nia was at hand for anything big or small she made us feel that nothing was too much.
The gwesty'r emlyn has such a warm friendly homely atmosphere all of the rooms where spottlessly clean and to a high standard with beautiful finishing touches. All my wedding guests where catered for including those within our party who are disabled.
The food at the restaurant was super tasty and the waiting staff where very attentive.
I cant put into words how glad we are that we found this little hidden gem we will definitely return and look forward to visiting again soon
Thank you to everyone at the gwesty'r emlyn for making our wedding day perfect ❤️

Our cousins wedding on Saturday 8th February.
Whilst on booking direct we paid more because the wedding was on that weekend, if we booked through an online portal we would have had the room half the cost. On arrival we were told that we couldn’t check in to our room until 2pm, the wedding was at 12.30pm. We were told that we can pay extra to have the room earlier, £10 (per hour!) the fact they offered this to us proved the room was actually ready but they still wouldn’t let us check in before.
We were offered the Spa to change and freshen up in, this was just big enough for 2 people with a shower, there were no towels, when I asked at reception for towels I was told there weren’t any, we had to use our own. We obviously didn’t come with any as it’s a hotel that supplies them! Nope not the case.
When my sister arrived to check in and she had a small baby her room was a larger one with a cot, they charged her more for the cot even though it was free (which they then refunded), they also put her on the 3rd floor with no lift so we had to carry the pram up 3 flights of stairs. Didn’t mind too much but they could have told her that on booking when she called.
2.10pm came and we checked in, we were given our room and proceeded to find it, which was out the front door, down the street and into the room. We were making ourselves at home, when a knock on the door came and they had given us the wrong room, back up the street and to a small room upstairs just big enough for the double bed.
Food service at the wedding, there were 8 tables with 12 people sitting (total 96 people) for the main course, after table 6 was served there was a 45 min wait for the last two tables to be given the main course. The service from the staff was good however the delay in food arriving was a little concerning.
Drinks at the hotel are just overpriced, when a large coke costs £3.20 and you have to re mortgage your home to purchase an alcoholic one something is not right.
Breakfast in the morning, rather than accessing the bistro to go to the function room, all visitor were forced outside in the rain to the function hall to eat, I think this is awful for their staff to do this when access to the function room is available thought the bistro.
Overall our experience of this hotel is enough for us never to stay there again. The receptionist was abrupt, rude and not helpful at all. The staff were generally okay but with everything that happened that day it really put a downward smile on the wedding for us.

Response from Venture29573340292, Manager at Emlyn Hotel
Responded 12 Feb 2020
Thank you for your review C6375KCmarkr - we are sorry to read that you did not enjoy your recent experience at the Emlyn Hotel. Whilst our housekeeping team strive to have all rooms ready earlier when possible, the hotel operates a check in time of 2pm as this is when we guarantee that all rooms are ready. This is our policy for each day, including wedding days unless the couple have exclusivity of the rooms the day prior - which was not the case on this occasion. Paying a fee for an early check in covers the cost of additional housekeepers to ensure this early time for any guests wanting to pay for this service. Our check out time is 11am and as you had arrived at 10am it was not possible for us to check you into your room at that time. Our apologies that you had been given the incorrect room number, this was an honest mistake made by our receptionist. All rooms are fully allocated by the bride and groom from a detailed list (which includes room type and location). Wedding guest rooms are not chosen by the hotel. It is the responsibility of the wedding couple to advise the couples of their room allocation. Food service was prompt on the wedding day; our apologies if you felt the wait was too long between the last 2 tables, however all main dishes were served to all 9 tables in under 30mins. We are saddened to hear that you viewed Clare to be abrupt, rude and not helpful at all. Clare's kind nature, professionalism and sunny personality holds her in high esteem with guests and staff members alike. Whilst every effort was made to ensure you had a wonderful stay, we appreciate that it is not possible to please all guests at all times. The feedback we received from guests during the day and upon check out was positive, with all guests including the bride and groom praising the hotel and its staff - it is disappointing to read therefore that you did not have the same experience. Kind regards Nia Assistant Manager

Booked this on booking.com and we were pleasantly surprised! This hotel appears very rustic externally, but inside is of a very good 3/4 star standard. It's a larger hotel having been much extended on the recent past.
We booked a premium room for one night including breakfast. The accomodation was very clean and modern in decor, with a large bathroom, with both bath and a shower over, so not ideal if you are less mobile, although I am not sure whether other more accessible room's are available? Our allocated room was up 2 flights of stairs in the main building and no lift, so not ideal. The room was quiet with a very comfortable bed.
We had reserved a table for dinner and the menu whilst not extensive and was priced at the higher end of typical prices. 2 main courses and a single dessert, a beer, was in excess of 50.00 pound's. The food was well cooked and presented, so O.K. There were veggie options.
The breakfast which was included in our room rate on booking.com, was excellent both in choice, was well cooked and presented. Our room rate was 89.00 pound's including breakfast.
The hotel offer's secure parking, which was included in the room rate, but we noticed the hotel does charge for parking, so worth checking, before you book?
Overall I would rate this stay as adequate and we enjoyed our stopover.

I booked a two night stay and upgraded to a superior room, Check in was ok and I fully understand that with Covid-19 we are now in a different way of doing things, so was happy to wait until the check in person arrived, Once seen to, I was met with a warm friendly reception and after registration followed the guy out of the hotel down the road and into a side road, our room was straight ahead (room 29) we were impressed with the room, the size, the cleanliness, large bathroom, shame its not part of the hotel as such and you have to walk up the high street to get back into the hotel. Couldn't get a drink (only if you were eating as well) but they did give me two wine glasses, and as the room was large and had two chairs, so we spent the night in the room. The room was very hot, I have no idea where the heat was coming from as the radiator was off, and there was no visible direct heat source and in the night it was really uncomfortable (no windows that you could open) I now know why there was a large fan in the room, but the last thing I wanted was to blow warm stale air around the room.
Went for breakfast the next morning (again having to walk up the high street first) luckily it wasn't raining, Good table service, attention to detail and breakfast was fantastic 5 stars!! .... How can it be the complete opposite the next day... If you want something other that the buffet you had to pre-order by 8.00pm the the day before, not a problem for us, I ordered the buffet again as it was amazing the first time, and my wife ordered Porridge and to follow Eggs Benedict, and we had to state a time, so we chose 8.30, and then the problems started. We arrived promptly at 8.30, and our room name was on the table, so we sat down, there was only one other guest in the breakfast room, otherwise not a sole in sight, at 08.45 a girl appeared and I called her over and she asked if we had ordered, to which I said yes for 8.30, she went off and then came back 5 minutes later saying our food was being prepared, to which I said I was having the buffet, she said there was no buffet today and they were cooking my breakfast fresh. When it came at 09.05, it was awful, it had fried potatoes, a sausage that was very under cooked and my fried egg was hard, I asked for another egg and this took 10 minutes to turn up, it was now 9.20. In the meantime, my wife's porridge and eggs Benedict arrived together, so she had to choose which one to leave to go cold, given that the eggs were obviously left on a hot plate before sending out and were only just warm, she ate the eggs first... All in all breakfast was a disaster, given this, the warm room, lack of attention on day two, having to walk up the high street, then this is why I only gave this 3 stars, such a shame, as day one was better and if the same was given on day two, I would have put up with the warm room and given 4 stars.

We travelled as a family and had two rooms. The executive double room in the coach House was spacious, quiet and comfortable. The twin room in the main hotel was generally comfortable, with occasional disturbance from within the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. What let it down was the breakfast. We were offered a cooler breakfast but the items were not of good quality and were not cooked well. There was also a choice of cereals, fruit, yogurt and toast.

+1
nice hotel to stay in, stayed in the bridal suite, really nice.
Great location to get to Cardigan bay, went on a dolphin trip, £20 per person, say a couple but could have seen them from the bay or hill tops, as it goes, the mother and it's pup were spoted in the bay where we were enoying fish and chips.
good places to eat and walk round here. watch out for the tight roads.
Never got to try the restaurant, covid, but breakfast was OK
Good parking.

We stayed 2 nights on the very good travelzoo offer and used the hotel as a base for visiting St David’s and Porthgain . We have stayed many times before and always enjoy . The room was very good and the staff were all very nice and helpful .The only disappointing aspect was the dinner menu - burgers were the mainstay on the menu and there were only a few other choices . Years ago when we visited the menu was excellent . Breakfast however was very good .We were told on check out that the restaurant was in line for decoration and that the menu would be changed so hopefully when we next visit ( which we definitely will !) there will be many more choices !
