The shower was a little small and had a shower curtain but otherwise it was a great little place Definately takes you back in time In walking distance from everything and a beautiful little country town

If you're thinking of visiting Walhalla but not sure about staying overnight, just do it ... and stay here! This was above our usual accommodation price range but we were so glad we'd decided to stay here. It is a lovely hotel (rebuilt to resemble the original hotel which burned down) with friendly helpful hosts. The room we were in...

We had the best attention during our stay at The Star Hotel It was located in the centre of town making it easy to plan activities during our stay. The proprietor must be congratulated for his courage in bringing this gem from the past back to life.

The Star Hotel is well located in the very quaint Gold mining town of Wahalla. The parking was fine for us. We ate in the restaurant which was a delight. Wandering around the town was very interesting as most building have been renovated back to their original state, there is a lot of history here. The hotel can offer wifi,...

A very quiet and wonderfully restful place to stay. The lounge is a nice place to sit and read or chat with other guests. The dining was excellent. The walks that you can take around Walhalla are also very special. A 'chocolate - box' setting.

Wonderful hotel, with gorgeous simple, stylish rooms. Friendly, engaging owners who went the extra mile. No tech - phones, TV or wifi, but that was actually a good thing. Breakfast was delicious and the adjacent coffee bar next door provided a Melbourne worth cup. Would gladly go back and stay longer as a getaway.

I fell in love with Walhalla....a hidden away gem at the end of a "dead end" road in many ways, this place just oozes history. And the Star hotel is a part of this. A prominent building with modern rooms and pleasant hosts. It was very relaxed and a little haphazard, but it is in the country, and such a...

My husband and I stayed 2 nights in the Kitty Darling room and very much enjoyed the Star Hotel and all it had to offer. The room was well appointed and we enjoyed being on the second floor facing the rotunda across the street. It was quiet, peaceful and the hotel offers a great selection of reading materials, music and...

A great place to stay if heading off to do walks within Baw Baw National Park. Extremely quiet. Room was huge for two people and tended to be a little chilly. Definitely needed the heating on in room. As others have commented, the wifi did not seem to want to work but do you really need such when there?

Thank you for your review, WiFi in Walhalla is an issue…just remember everyone that we have VERY LIMITED mobile phone service [we almost non-existent] and the internet is marginal at best. Part of the charm really. Cheers, Michael

Okay, the wifi is a worry - they have it, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's going to work - but that's why you're in Walhalla, to get away from modern life. The room was very nice, good size and a great view over the main street which a car goes past on at a rate of about one per...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Winner of the LCBTA "People's Choice" Award for 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. Located in the heart of Walhalla opposite the famous band rotunda, the Star Hotel provides boutique accommodation with large modern rooms all with ensuite, king beds [twins available], CD player and air-conditioning. A visit to Walhalla and the Star is about stepping back in time to relax and enjoy the unique atmosphere of this hidden mountain village. Leave your mobile phone at home as they don't work here...if you can't miss your favourite TV program Walhalla probably isn't a good choice as TVs don't work in the deep valley either! The internet is limited too, so it's great "tiime out" destimation. A trip to Walhalla and a stay at Walhalla's Star Hotel provides a chance unwind and explore the amazing gold-era history of the township including the mountain railway, daily gold mine tours, heritage walks and fascinating hillside cemetery. ... more   less
